Evo 4g lte or samsung galaxy s3

My evo lte is going back tomorrow. Some people are getting faster 3g speeds, but mine have been terrible. This is going put an end to my 10 year run with sprint. unlimited data doesn't do me any good if I'm only getting 100 kbps. Hopefully sprint is still unlimited whentthey get lte in my area in 2-3 years, because its back to my OG evo for now until I get the s3, but for Verizon.

Looks like the S3 will be coming out June 21st. Debating if I should cancel my order and go with the S3

I'm still in my 14-day return window with my new EVO, and I have absolutely no intent whatsoever to even consider the GS3. It's all about the hardware to me - software can be fixed with updates or rooting and ROMing, and any Gee-whiz features will either be ported by crafty devs or imitated in the market. You can't fix cheap plastic-y build quality (see GNex) or sub-par radios. And I personally can't stand the AMOLED display - everything seems so artificial and oversaturated. The only hardware-related gripe I have with the EVO is the location of the USB port - it should be on the bottom where God intended it to be, not the side.

But it all comes down to personal preference - only you can decide what's best for you.

The 2GB of ram in the S3 look yummy, but I'd rather have the LCD of the EVO LTE.

Until Samsung improves the radios I will not even consider another Samsung device. The GPS took forever to connect on my E4GT. I also got sick of hearing, "GPS signal lost". And I'm in San Francisco where Sprint has a fantastic signal.

Hope Sprint announces the white EL TEvo by the 21st so I can compare it w the S3 shortly thereafter.

I know what u mean, it's like a tradeoff; S3 removable battery but LTEvo screen. S3 2GB ram, but Samsung's bad radios...

Im waiting to feel out developer support. I'm going to have the phone for almost 2 years, so its nice to be updated to the newest versions of android and try out roms. Gives me something new to play with without buying new hardware.

Yes, misisng out on dev love already. Have had many HTC Win Mo phones in the past where I was able to even use Android off the microSDHC cards :) and really am waiting for dev love to shower soon.

Evo 4g lte dev support is off the charts right now. S-Off isnt needed either as the kernal control isnt locked down by it; the EVO3D's kernal was locked down which made ROMing a pain in the ass. Its night and day with this phone as HTC got it right. Rooting is 30 seconds and very safe. There are like 6 ROMs already and a CM AOSK for it too. Only been officially out for 2 days.

I had the OG EVO and loved it but battery life was a &^&%. I had the Evo 3D and it was ok, bit of a dud and not the #1 phone last year. GPS was weak on it btw, very unlike HTC.

Now, I have the EVO 4G LTE. Its like wow...a bad ass phone. This thing is amazing. I'm a hardcore user as a traveling consultant and live off of it. Its battery is doing very well!

That being said, S3 is going to be an awesome phone too. Heres the deal, its Samsung though. Build quality is suspect. Some people don't like the plastic feel. The important part is the internal build quality. Their Radios perform BADLY and their phones are glitchy. As in permanently glitchy. Most people know this and sprint to get CM 9 on them but with LTE and special camera stuff, you're losing a lot. Remember, Samsung is famous for good hardware components and bad software and cheap plastic.

Here is where the S3 beats the EVO 4G LTE.

1- S3 GPU is a lot better, not sure if this matters a whole lot now but it is.
2- S3 has 2GB of RAM.

The EVO is equal or better in nearly all other catagories (some are personal preference though).

End of the day, EVO wins for me.

1- I LOVE the screen
2- Pentile AMOLED screens aren't top of the line and the cartoony colors get old (EVO screen is the best on any phone ever made at the moment...better than iPhone for sure...this was a big leap for HTC)
3- Sense 4 is great, I'm really pleased with it for something non-ASOP.
4- Build quality is just phenominal. It really is. I've never gotten a GPS signal so fast on any of my other phones.
5- HD Voice when LTE comes out
6- Kick stand. You think its a gimmick but its not. Trust me. How many IPAD people do you see with the funny stand/cover that props it up? Yeah, it solves all of that
7- Camera features. I have a new baby and all of the camera features are insanely usable..especially the burst mode. I love the slow-motion mode for sports training. Helping to work on your golf swing, basketball shot or fly cast...wow it comes in handy SO freakin fast watching that happen. Camera quality is on-par with iPhone 4S which is an impressive camera phone.

Damn you! I was all set to get the SGIII... then I read your post.

For me.. I am on verge of returning the Evo but seriously considering keeping now :)

How safe is burning cooked ROMs ? is the process reversible in terms of warranty etc?

I love my evo lte. I'd say besides the battery coming out specs are the same. Galaxy might have more ram also but I'm keeping this evo

Hardware specs are very close for the US versions. Same cpu/gpu. 2GB ram vs the superior SLCD2 screen. Evos 1GB is still more than enough and the SIIIs screen will still be great. Comes down to a software prefrence.

The specs on the s3 look nice but fairly comparable to the evo. I read somewhere that the extra ram will hardly be noticeable tho

Some of your reasoning is personal preference and some of it isn't quite accurate. I have the OG EVO and I used the kickstand probably twice in 18 months. Now the kickstand is messed up and pops out on its own and is messed up. I'm not happy with it sticking out, especially considering I never used it in the first place.

The Samsung camera has burst mode as well and also a feature so it will pick the best focused picture. I am not sure about slow motion mode but the camera features are probably pretty close. I'm not sure which one has the best looking prictures but I don't think you can declare the EVO LTE to have the better camera right now.

Some people like Sense some people don't, so again that's a personal preference.

The screen is definitely better on the EVO, no argument there.

IF the Samsung radios continue to suck then that would be the main reason I chose the EVO LTE over the GIII. I am probably going to leave Sprint since their 3G network is killing me and VZW has had 4G in my area for quite some time already. If I stay with Sprint I would probably go with the LTE, unless the radio issues are fixed and then I would probably go with the GIII. Everyone has their own needs and wants though and both of these phones are so good I think it comes down to personal preferences more than anything.
