Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

I dont see what everyone is so excited about. I updated to froyo yesterday, and I notice absolutely no difference what so ever, other than my programs seem to take longer to start and sometime freeze. My phone is seriously twice as slow. I thought it was supposed to be faster. The new usable features are actually minimal. Nothing to cream your pants over.

You mean you updated to Froyo using the leaked version that the public wasn't supposed to get, probably because it still has some bugs?

Mine works flawlessly after the "Unofficial" update... My apps open quicker and Flash is great when your on a solid internet connection....

The only drawback I have seen after 2 full days of use is battery life is slightly worse... Might have some thing to do with the build but for the most part it's just what I expected... a minor upgrade to the OS...

People who are complaining about not seeing a difference is because of Sense which HTC puts on the phone. From the naked eye 2.2 looks exactly like 2.1. Almost all the improvements were in the performance side.... Thus 2.1 to 2.2 if it was a major upgrade (like Gingerbread is suppose to be) it would be 3.0....

For the most part the upgrade was not world changing... Some people are having problems and from most people I know a hard reset of the phone fixes a lot of the problems or go to the bootloader and reset user settings (which will cause you to lose your apps) fixes a lot of the lag and problems people have had...

To each his own though... I like Froyo but if I still have Eclair it wouldn't be that big a deal (In my world at least) the performance upgrades don't do much for my use...... It's slightly faster that is about it...

I am not sure I believe the above. Although the "loading programs is slower" would be true for a short while- others reported that the phone seems to do background stuff for a while after the upgrade. Plus, it will "forget" what should be cached at first and have to load programs initially from Flash. After that, it should be much faster.

BTW - I like the feature to move apps to the sd card. But most of my apps have that option grayed out. I did notice that when I deleted and reinstalled Pandora, the option to move to the sd card became available. So, do I have to delete and reinstall all my apps if I want to move them to the sd card or does this only work for certain apps?

Thx

only certain apps

some examples please??

Does it matter much? If it is greyed out, that is one of the exceptions that wont allow you. Im sure there are thousands of examples. I only got 4 apps to install to SD out of the ones I had.
I dont know it does anything better or worse as far as having the option. if it solely for backup purposes I do this through Astro now anyway.
The SD card is slow, so not sure installing apps to it will make the phone much faster, but the apps will prob be slower while doing it.
Food for though.

Found some problems after upgrading on Friday: sometimes after opening an application, home button stops working and screen flickers between home and the open app. It started with my 360 camera on Saturday, contunued today after I was showing off the flashlight. Rebooting usually fixes it, and I know I hadn't had this with 2.1.

Loaded Adobe Flash showcase. It locked up with a message something like "all windows are already open, close them before proceeding". Problem went away after rebooting. I have this app moved to SD card, not sure if it has something to do with it.

Anyone else has experienced something similar?

The Developers have to change their apps to allow them to be run from the SD Card. If the option is greyed out it means that Developer has not modified his App yet.

I suspect a lot of free apps that don't get upgrades very often will never show up as loadable from the SD Card. :p

If i am rooted using UNREVOKED will i be able to download this new Froyo update? Or will it cause my phone to "brick"??

I have not seen it come through yet on the updates screen. Its also not the 3rd yet either unless my calendar app is missfunctioning and telling me it is the 2nd and its really the 3rd?

I've read eleventy billiion posts about this update and you are the ONE AND ONLY that has said anything remotely like this.

I think you've done something wrong.

Have you read any of the 675 topics on this yet?

It was mentioned many times in here and others. . . no, you wont brick it. Just will lose root. that is all that will happen.

I haven't seen any reports of a bricked phone on this update, not ONE. And I've read just about every single word on the forum about it...... I could have missed something recently, but as far as I've read, you will just lose ROOT. I'd recommend reverting back using the methods that have been explained, and then updating, because I personally believe some of the complaints are coming from TWEAKERS (ie, those who have jacked with their systems)
