Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

If we install this version can we then install the official version when it's released by HTC/Sprint on August 3rd on top of it?

Re: Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd

Yeah I need a definite answer before I do this. This is all new to me being this is my first Android phone.

Yes you will. Just do it like a normal OTA update when it is available.

Have you rebooted at all since updating? Try that. See of that fixes it.

I had rebooted earlier and it was still doing it, but I just did again, and everything seems to be great. Thanks for the reboot reminder. I sometimes forget I'm half-IT guy, forget the rules sometimes. ha ha

Little more information?
Swype just needs to be deleted and reinstalled.

Browser crashing? like in flash sites? whats the problem exactly.

If it is flash. doing a hard reset will fix it. Or you can try installing the adobe flash showcase for froyo from the market to see if that works first.

Keep getting error message failed to open/sdcard/update.zip(no such file or directory)
* got it...just name file update not update.zip

Been running this since last night and so far no issues to report.

Interested to see what the "final" version of 2.2 actually will be, and what was the reason for not rolling it out yesterday like the initial reports said.

That said, those of us who updated to 2.2 yesterday should still be able to update to the OTA version as it becomes available, right?

Where did you see that It's not on their official page

Look on main page second article as of 8am Saturday
If you got root that is which if you've never done it
Google: xda-developers htc evo root guide & there is a link to a step by step with video to do full root, nand unlock! It's really easy Id never rooted my phone...

Or

You can do unrevoked3 and put the htc evo froyo root rom it's much easier, equivalent to jailbreaking an iPad/itouch/iPhone

Good luck!

I *am* a full IT guy, and those "rules" usually apply only to MS-Windows. I almost never reboot anything running Linux...
