Evo HDMI out mirroring?

Here is another video. YouTube - Hulu over 3G using fullHDMI

This is Kitchen Nightmares. It was just one of the top videos on Hulu for that day. I did this through Dolphin Browser, and I was only connected over 3G.

For those of you that didn't know you could watch Hulu on the Evo, if you do some searching you should be able to find how. If you have searched and still can't find it, PM me. Please don't post with requests about Hulu. Keep this thread about fullHDMI.

In any case this went really well. Just another one of the amazing options with this app.

Wow... just... wow! I'm geek'n out ova heer!

Sam, any thoughts on what rom you recommend with this kernel? ...would love to try this with my blockbuster app, but will the kernel work with stock rooted?

The blockbuster quality of video should look pretty good considering a near 2 hour movie is 1.2 gb ...if it does, finally no more trips to redbox!

I ran it on the stock rom with the modified kernel. My results were pretty much the same as what you've seen in the posted videos.

just installed artlans kernel and finally my evo doesn't crash when i plug in the hdmi cable. yay!

phone stable with artlan kernel and warm's 2.2 RL5.

eagerly awaiting apk release!! SO CLOSE!!!

Do any tester kno what resolution this full hdmi will be in..720p or evos screen res which is 800?480? Will a movie in avi/divx format playin with rockplayer be close to digital?

Custom resolutions was added in on Friday. You can set any resolution you like, and it will auto-center on your TV. This capability uses hardware accelerated stretching and scaling, there is little to almost no effect on frame rate in my testing. This means, however, that software mode will not support this and you will get software scaling (vertical from 800 on evo to 720) and no streching.

Adding on to the notes and known issues/observations:
Notes and Erratum about FullHDMI:
1- To achieve hardware acceleration, video memory (minimal) has to be used. Some poorly coded programs that also use video memory will try to grab a hold of the entire memory block instead of the available. This will cause them to crash when you are in hardware mode reserving a small block of memory to yourself. The only application that I found to be doing this is, strangely enough, HTC's Gallery (specifically video playback mode). Gallery video playback will keep trying to acquire the whole video memory, put the phone in a tight infinite loop doing so and eventually force close (after about 40 sec).
Compatibility or software mode does not use video memory and is safe to keep on while launching Galley video playback. Compatibility mode also does not make use of the "supercharged" feature, custom res or fullscreen mode.

2- FPS: Your frames per second will not be the same as on your phone. This is because the app is designed to keep the phone as primary display and output a secondary to the HDMI port. You are also outputting, most likely, a 1280x720 pixels which is almost ~2.5 times more the normal output. So in total you are pushing 3.5 lcd size screen worth of pixels (phone lcs + hdmi). Things can be improved if we freeze the phone display, but that wont be mirroring (maybe a feature in FullHDMI 2). Expect, however, to get more FPS in 3-D games (I get upwards of 40 fps on Raging Thunder 2) than 2-D sine he 2-D engine does the mirroring.

3- Lag: Some TVs (like Insignia) use an image enhancing and noise reducing engine. This extra processing puts the TV about half a second behind the phone making games unplayable by looking at the TV only. Watching movies is fine since nobody cares if the phone is a little faster than the TV. On this Insignia TV, I had to go in and turn off two image enhancing and noise reducing features, and now my phone and TV track together. I know Sony has its own engine, I do not know if the extra processing there introduces lag. I have two other TVs with no lag issues, but then they don't use any image enhancing engines.
Again, the app should not lag in mirroring, if you experience any lag then please check your TV and share your observation with us.

Thank u mr. President...cant wait for this...tired of converting avi movies into mp4 format so i use evos hdmi..dont kno if its quality of movie but when i use 720p is a lil overpixel and a lil blurry when in 480p but still 85% watchable

Any plans to put it in CM?
Once Sense is stable enough, yes. Also, TeamWin is working hard on enabling the drivers for CM7, once they do this app should work at least in software mode. If they do enable Hardware acceleration in their drivers then you will get hardware acceleration working as well.

Thanks for the help

You need two things to test jbabecki, Artlan's zip (public) and the apk which is not public yet. Having the kernel on will prepare you to run the apk only but you will not see anything different by just flashing it.

Ok thanks for the info... because i did what was said and i see the zip file in the system apps folder but did nothing... Hopefully the apk will be public soon,
