I'm so envious of you lucky beta testers. :(

Trust me I know how difficult the wait is! Orrebmas is litteraly working day and night to get this ready for public use. I know it's hard but sit tight, stay tuned and you will be enjoying HDMI / EVO goodness before you know it! :)

Best,

Sam,

I played around with x res and y res to scale down around the size of my screen in my truck and seen little flickering. I know that's not accurate being it wasn't hooked up but wanted to see if there was a difference. You mentioned smaller screens lower Freq I was just thinking smaller res may simulate lower Freq as a smaller screen. I'm probably way off on this but I seen a difference!!

So I guess everyone testing could probably list the ROM there are using if any other than stock..also we could list all the applications we have used this app for..it might lead to some great ideas if we share these with one another... I'm still trying to make it home on this train so I can start my testing..Cheers..and thanks again to Sam...

MikFroyo 4.5

I tested some GameLoft games, most did not work. I also tested Gun Bros. I tested on both Hardware and Software rendering mode, on Landscape, and with Supercharge on and off. I got the same results with each different combination except Dungeon Hunter.

SandStorm: "video cannot be played"

FishingKings: Video crashes, sound works. Looks kinda like when the old nintendo did not start up properly. The HDMI app gets hosed, requiring phone reboot.

Let's Golf 2: Starts up working on Tv, but screen on phone is blank, press button on phone TV goes blank with no HDMI signal. After game is shutdown, mirroring on tv crashes, requiring phone reboot.

Dungeon Hunter: FC on Landscape, HW Rendering, Supercharge Off.
Works on Landscape, HW Rendering, Supercharge On.

Gun Bros. Video Crashes, sound works. HDMI app gets hosed, requiring phone reboot.

If anyone has any of the games can you confirm these crashes.

hey, well my plan is to use an hdmi to composite converter because my car only accepts RCA(composite) input. Have hdmi from phone to this, then this to my car's input. Resolutionwise, my screens in my car are 800x480 resolution, so having high def from my evo really isnt an option.

Then, i have to be creative with my power supply (lots of interference for some reason if i use the ac to dc inverter in my car with the hdmi converter above). My solution is to convert my car's 12v to 5v dc using the innards of an old cigarette lighter to usb adapter (the usb has 5v output). alternatively, you could take an easier approach and buy a dc regulator like on this page, which might be cleaner to install and maintain.

Multi Level DC-DC Regulated Adapter ( 1.5V-12V) with Switch and 100-240V worldwide AC to 12V DC converter

The way i have this set up now, is that i have the hdmi converter and the power supply mounted behind my dashboard and already hooked up to power and inputs of my stereo. It turns on and off with the car, which was easy to achieve by tapping into one of the "ignition 12v" wires already feeding my stereo. this prevents battery drain.

My only hurdle now is figuring out the best mounting solution that would allow easy (clip in/out) access and hold securely (apparently the hdmi is temperamental on this phone).

As soon as my next rounds of exams comes up in 2 weeks, im going to spend the weekend designing some sort of car mount that will do all that and also have usb power to also charge the phone as it will be a busy little bastard.

again, this is to feed the tv's in my back seats and to allow for easy streaming of online radio without having to fiddle around with a stupid 3.5mm headphone jack. NOT FOR TV WHILE DRIVING! although totally possible if your stereo is set up so, it is not my intention to drive off a bridge while watching episodes of archer. All connections will be on the bottom part of the phone and i wont have to spend 10 seconds getting the damn thing set up each time i get in my car(it doesnt sound like alot of time, but its enough to deter me from using my phone like this).

thanks for the read, sorry for the long post! (also, the day i get the fullhdmi app, i will do my best to get a video on youtube of the entire set up).

Hmmmmm.....so you need a converter? Just getting and HDMI-to-RCA cable and running in straight up won't work? I tried this a while back with just the HDMI-to-RCA cable and got no luck. Of course, this was before this app, but from what I'm gathering here, I won't be able to get this to play on my in-dash without a converter, huh?

This is what I did to mount the phone in my car. It is very sturdy and has been rock solid for a half a year now:

Fortunately, Panavise makes a bracket specifically for my car. If they don't make one for yours, you can contact them and they will tell you which one of their universal bendable brackets you can use.

Anyway, what I do now is mount my phone on this bracket in landscape mode, play the Slingplayer, and I can at least hear the audio through the car speakers even though I can't use the screen of my in-dash. I'm very curious as to whether this will work or not. Are you planning on actually buying the converter and trying it? I'll wait for you to be the geannie pig before I dive in. :p

I noticed that it was flickering a lot on google maps too. The other place I noticed it was in Hulu from the browser. It would flicker like crazy while the video was loading and even while it was running in browser. The way I use Hulu is by clicking on the tiny little full screen button in the flash window.

Once I click that and the video fills the screen, the flickering pretty much goes away.

Another strange thing, that may not be of much help, is that when I first installed the new kernel, I used the fastboot method as Sam suggested. It was my first time ever using that, and although it worked, everything was flickering.

I wiped my dalvik cache, and installed Artlans zip, and the flickering was drastically reduced, but it continues to happen in maps, and certain web pages. To be honest, this could have all been coincidental, or even in my head. It's possible that the way I installed the kernel had nothing to do with it.

How are you viewing Hulu on your phone? It always detects mine as and Andoid phone. Rooted with stock ROM. Very exciting for the HDMI mirroring.

I downloaded Sandstorm and it worked fine for me. I also downloaded Gun Bros. (which looks pretty cool; thanks for that!) but it did not play nice with the TV here at work which has been very friendly with this app. (A small Vizio LCD in the break room at work). I tried it with and without supercharged mode. It looked like it wanted to start working a few times but no dice. You don't have to reboot the phone, though. If you go into settings> applications> running and manually force stop the HDMI app, you can start it again and it works normally.

Orrebmas: I think all apps should have the option to quit/exit, and this one is no exception. Since a lot of different factors could cause the app to get stuck (be it the gallery issue, an incompatible TV, or image enhancement being enabled, etc.), it would be great it we could just hit the menu button and then quit the app instead of navigating through the settings menu to do so. In my case, a task killer does not kill this app, so I have to manually stop it anytime it borks during testing.

P.S. I absolutely LOVE the x/y resolution settings option.

I know that with Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS 5 (which is the rom I'm running), he includes a Hulu flash that allows you to view Hulu with the phone. However, I don't know if you need to have his rom on your phone to be able to use it.

The file is one of the many links in the first post of this thread:

Let's not derail the thread. Because we want to keep this about the app, but I guess Hulu is somewhat related. I use a rom called Ava Z3. He has detailed instructions about getting Hulu to work on the rom.

But, you can get it working on any rom. Here are a couple of threads in XDA that should help you out.

This will be available to everybody including out-of-the-box Evos. However, to use Hardware Acceleration and supercharge mode, you will need an enabled kernel, which requires root. Unrooted Evos will be able to use "Software Mode" by toggling compatibility.

Quick question what is Hardware Acceleration and Supercharge modes and what they do exaclty because this is the fist time I have herd about them. What would there advantages be. And are most of the videos that people have posting running your app on stock Evos I really thought that was the case.

I was reading allot of people talking about supercharge mode when running games so Iam guessing it has to do with games specifically.

So I just got in and tried the app for the firest time ...simply amazing .. the first thing I tried was Tango for some reason...It was alright , have to try and play with the res a little more.. now I'm off to try and think of some more applications..

Hardware acceleration basically means that the programmer used a modified kernel to access the hardware, and make it do things it was not designed to do out of the box. The kernel is what controls most of the hardware on the phone.

The advantage is that the app can do a lot more than it can as a program alone. If HTC had planned on us using the HDMI port this way, then they probably would have had the hardware programmed correctly in the first place. But because they didn't we have to re-program it.

The early videos, where the display was not full screen. That will work on any Evo. You don't have to be rooted, or modified in any way. But to get full screen, and faster frame rates, you need to root the phone and install a modified kernel. It's not as difficult as it sounds, but may not be for everyone.
