Evo V Battery Life?

Lower your screen brightness to its lowest usable setting.

And try working instead of playing on your phone (that's a LOT of screen on time for 6 hours) :)

EDIT: btw, that was a joke, thanks for posting the graph, it makes it plain what you're doing.

Hahaha, today it has been used a little more than average. At most I am getting about ten hours a day.

I use auto-brightness.

I am not going to drop my brightness down to zero, nor include off hours in my "up-time" (i.e. while i'm sleeping)

I could charge my phone all day, unplug it, go to sleep, and then easily get over 20 hours of "battery life".. but thats not the number people are looking for.

I understand that getting "30 hours" is possible, but thats not "typical" real world usage. Just like hypermilers, they're able to squeeze insane amounts of mileage out of a gallon of gas.. but there is a reason manufactures don't display that possible mileage. You have to drive your car atypical in order to achieve those results, and to turn my britness down to nothing, sync once a day, and to hold it a certain way..would be atypical.

Like I said, 9-10 hours of battery life should be expected for an average user.

I use my phone more than the average user and don't need to charge it more than once for a day. 5 calls and several photos taken, uploaded to instagram, played World of Goo while waiting for an appointment, lots of texting... and I still have more than 20 hours left for the day.

9-10 hours of battery life is *(^@#ing pathetic.

You're making a generalization that you haven't backed up. What data do you have besides your own usage? So far everyone who has posted to the thread is getting more battery life than you...so maybe you're not "average"? Anyway, like I said, best to just post the stats and leave it alone.

Here's another data point:

Woah, overall, it looks like people are getting stellar results! I had to charge my Triumph all through lunch cuz I knocked it down pretty low because I was internetting a LOT. I wonder if I can borrow one from a friend to "test drive" for myself.

For the person whom got 9 hours, you might just be a heavy user, like me.

Are extended batteries available? If so, how long do those last?

eBay has tons of extended batteries. Most require a replacement battery panel cover for the phone. The highest capacity slim (no new back cover required) battery is 1900mAh and will give you maybe an extra 2 or 3 hours for typical use. The higher capacity batteries go up to 2800-3000mAh, so yeah... that should push some people over to 36-48 hours between recharges.

I've been using my phone a LOT more heavily in the last few days, lots of calls and playing games while sitting in waiting rooms.

I'm still getting more than 26 hours between charges. Whoever is getting only 10 hours is either trolling or has serious wakelock issues. (eg, leaving autosync on and allowing every app to sync every hour.)

Why wouldn't you want your email to keep syncing? That's kind of the point of syncing. So you don't have to keep checking whether you have mail. You might as well use a feature phone if you don't need your phone to sync. I am lucky if I get 12 hours without a recharge. I do not consider myself a heavy user. I send/recieve about 5-10 txts a day, rarely take pictures, use less that 150 minutes a month, check twitter, facebook, G+, 3-4 times a day, and look at my email when I am alerted. So no they aren't trolling. I believe the 10 hour statement especially if that is 100% on 3G.

The standard battery in the 3D kind of sucks. That's what happens when you stick a battery in phone that is marginally better than the OV, but more that twice as powerful. The problem is consumers and tech blogs are obsessed with the thickness of phones. Make a good phone with a big battery and it is a brick. Make a good phone with a crap battery and people buy an extended battery and give up the ability to use most docks and cases.

Reminds me of the experience I had with my Samsung Moment when it was stock. Maybe once the newness of my phone wears off after a few weeks, and I am not using it quite as much I might be able to go the 18 hours without a charge that I expect from a phone. But as of right now, I need to charge it the last 2 hours of the day that I am work to make sure it will last until I go to bed.

I think for all intents and purposes, 9-11 hours is good enough for most people.

But speaking of wakelocks, I have installed the Badass battery app and let it run for a day or 2, and it told me that Google Maps had made 70+ wakelocks on the phone. Anyone know whats up with that?

Maps is a very, very chatty app. It;s one of the first apps I disable whenever I get a new phone.

How did you disable it, because I know there is a thing in "Usage" to restrict background data, but I don't think that's the right one. Or is it when you go into "apps" and hit the "Disable" Button. (I don't think thats it either)

Or an app maybe?

Settings > Apps > All > Maps > Disable.

Thanks for everyone's replies! For now I'm holding onto my triumph.

That said, how do you disable maps with an older android(like the triumph). If that is what uses my battery a lot...
I have app quarantine on my phone for the stock music app because I use Doubletwist and the button on my earbuds will make it play the stock app by default which is annoying(especially when listening to podcasts as opposed to music and to have loud music suddenly blare in your ears, ouch)
Anyway, the quarantine app takes forever to remove the app from quarantine, and if I need to use GPS, I'll need it fast. '~'

My Husband's new Evo V gets about 7-8 hours of life in a single charge. His BT is off, usually no WiFi, and no 4G running. He has Battery Defender by Infolife on it, and keeps the screen at about 80% brightness. He also keeps tasks "killed" every so often with the stock task killer. He has System Tuner Pro to take care of the "house keeping". When I am brave enough to root it for him, he'll get better performance. He receives txt & calls all thru his day so his phone stays busy. My MT tends to need charging a bit earlier than his. I get about 7 hours on my phone, but I tend to run games when I'm not using mine for the job as his mobile secretary. Mine runs MIUI 2.4.20 w/ mOCK kernel on SmartAss governor. Not bad for a pair of truckers!!

Hey Kate...if your MT is rooted, you can get rid of the stock music player all together. I got rid of mine and run WinAMp Pro. For great info on apps you can & CAN NOT get rid of, go to the OV forums. Look under OV rooting, ROMS & hacks for a stickie on Google APKs. Read it thourghly. Even though the intel is for another phone, this info is good for any phone running Android software. As a general rule...
you can uninstall anything from your phone that can be reloaded from Google Play. You can also uninstall any app that can readily replaced by another app from Google Play and used as a default. Leave the rest alone if you're not sure. Read that stickie, and set your MT free!!!
