Exchange Calendar Sync Problem (repeated syncing)

My coworker's Incredible is having a weird problem with exchange calendar sync.

FYI we both have exchange set up, they appear to have the exact same settings and my incredible is not exhibiting this behavior.

Basically the phone started syncing over and over and was draining her battery incredibly fast. The sync icon wasn't constantly on, it was more like flashing on and off a couple times per second constantly. I sent to Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync>Exchange ActiveSync and fiddled around with it - if you uncheck the box next to "sync calendar" then the problem stops. Check the box again and it starts syncing over and over.

I tried turning the phone off, letting it sit, and then turning it back on. This did not work. I looked through all the settings I could think of and couldn't find anything. It doesn't seem like the phone is sleeping properly either.
 
Well I did some more searching and found a solution that SEEMS to have worked.

1. I turned off syncing for the exchange calendar (probably should have just turned off all auto-sync for a bit).
2. Went into applications (Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications) and cleared the data for Calendar as well as Calendar Storage (click on application, click "Clear data" button)
3. Turned the phone off
4. Remove battery
5. Wait 5 minutes
6. Put it all back together, turn phone on, turn sync back on for calendar. Everything appears to have synced correctly, AND there's no repeated syncing going on.
