Hello, all.

When I turn my HTC one speaker up full and either play a game or listen to music, I get a crackling noise coming from the top speaker.. Has anyone else noticed this?

Granted, I will not be listening to music this loud normally, but I want to be sure that my phone is defect free, especially if I would like to sell it in the future.

Let me know if you are experiencing the same thing? Or if I may have a bad phone. Thanks!

I also noticed this on my One. It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes when the volume is full. I don't know if it is a defect. It's not a continous cracking sound.

Thanks. That sounds like what mine is doing. Only does it when Beats is turned on from what I can tell.

Anyone else?

I noticed the same thing while playing videos on YouTube. However, they sound fine when playing music that's either streamed or in storage. I'm glad it's not just me...but, I hope it's not signs of a major problem.

Be specific, the cracking noise could be coming from the source and not the speakers themselves.

It has happened to me while playing songs over RDIO, playing certain games, Youtube videos, etc...

Y2Dre - Does not happen to you when playing music at full volume?

Mine "seems" to crackle only from the top speaker... Yours?

No popping at all while playing music at any volume. I went back to YouTube and the popping does seem to be coming from the top speaker. It's not happening all the time...but, it does happen.

So far no popping for me.. it's so loud anyways that I don't like putting it all the way up. I wouldnt worry about it much and just keep it like a notch or 2 lowered. :)

I just swapped my phone for another one today because the top speaker was sounding like blown speakers sound. It was really noticeable when hearing people speak to me through the receiver in quiet locations and even the dial tone was annoying. I don't know if it was like that from day one or if just turning the speakers up messed something up. I don't hear it on the new phone.

I've heard it too, but only with streamed media....makes me think its a network/software thing.

Thats what it sounds like on mine... A blown speaker... Not all the time, but pretty regularly when playing at full volume through the phone speaker. And it only happens when BEATS is on.

What to do. What to do... I suppose I will stop at an at&t store and try theirs to see if the same thing happens.

Same... Only happened so far with YouTube and Beats enabled. Doesn't happen with stuff like Pandora or playing music directly. Not sure why... Might be a network issue (slight delays introducing this crackling) or a Beats issue with particular audio sources.

I can confirm the same. I just blasted the Iron Man 3 trailer without Beats enabled and there was no crackling. (Might I add that I just fell in love with these speakers all over again) However, I turned Beats back on and the sporadic crackling returned. Until they come out with a patch, I'm gonna see if I can come up with a Tasker profile that turns off Beats when YouTube is launched and turns it back on when I exit the app.

I can't use the Dpad command in Tasker to navigate to the Beats toggle...Tasker says that command isn't supported on my phone. Thought I was on to something......

It looks as though people are only having issues in YouTube? I am having with everything.

Stickman base jumper is a free game with good bass effects. Can others try this game on full volume and see if you get any crackling?.

Thanks.

I have only noticed the problem when I am in the Phone and turn on the speaker. When it is ringing I get the blown speaker noise. Once someone answers it seems to go away. Playing music was perfect. Made me think it was software vs hardware.

I just downloaded and played SBJ with the volume maxed out (Cool game, by the way). I experienced no speaker crackling. The more I test it, the more I'm convinced that it's a software problem that an update should fix.

For me it's YouTube with Beats on at any volume. Speakers aren't crazy loud for me but when I'm watching a movie trailer or something I can really forget it's a phone. Speakers are amazing Imo. I definitely think it's a software issue. I wonder if it has something to do with stereo speakers vs mono.

Hello, all.

As the OP, I thought I would give you an update. It was definitely a hardware issue on my phone. I went and exchange the device for a new one and the popping speaker is all gone! The new one works like a champ!

Thanks to everyone that responded!
