Extremely slow battery charging on Nexus 5 after updating to lollipop

Sorry if this is considered an old thread I ran across this thread while researching something else but I can tell you there IS a HUGE difference between a random micro USB cord and the nexus 5 USB cord. You will notice a 1-3% longer charge time, that was even in the release notes but battery drain should be about 5% less. The difference in the cables has to do with the guage of the wires and no if you are attempting to charge from a USB port on laptop it won't work and shouldn't work as no modern phone of any power would. Get a 3.1 port or if you actually want your battery to have good longevity and performance use the included charger and cable like your supposed to. As a guy who works with mobile hardware day in and day out you guys who use your laptop USB ports and keep it plugged in all day are destroying your batteries and in some cases the hardware itself. Let it charge for 2-3 hours on the right charger with the right cable once a day and you have no issues.

Using both a Blackberry Mini USB and the Nexus 5 official charger, no major issues it still charges fully in 1-1.5 hrs.

Just curious, N4Newbie, did you update via OTA or did you flash the factory image? I did the latter and haven't run into any issue with Lollipop on my Nexus 5, either. I'm wondering if the OTA update process could be part of the culprit.

Its not the OTA that's the culprit because I upgraded to Lollipop by flashing the factory image and I'm having the same issue. It takes forever to charge. Right now I'm on 78 perfect and it says that its going to take 2hrs and 13mins to reach 100 percent.

my phone is not charge even i will charge using power plug.
when you will be use phone and also connect power plug, battery discharge??
Sometimes show charging time like 1 day 5 hours like that

why this happening
how to resolve it. Help me

The first thing I would do is try a new cable and power brick (wall wart).

A charger I got on ebay worked wonders for me on a Nexus 4 that would not charge on any normal USB charger I already had.

I don't know why the difference, but it is and this one worked well for me.

I can't post a link but look for this: "OEM LG Original USB Wall Charger STA-U17 For G2 G2x Nexus 5 4 Cellphone + Cable"

Since I got it I have no had a problem.

I was bored and did some charge testing. Phone was on. Screen off.

Only the stock charger has problems. It makes me think there is nothing wrong with the phone.

Hello,

I too came across this issue, this is got multiplied after 5.1.1 update. Few tips that I have tried and worked for me.

1. While charging turn off Wi-Fi and Mobile data(ofcourse bluetooth & location service).
As apps continuously looks for update ( whats up, mail apps ) they drain your battery at a faster rate than your charge supply.

2. Don't wait for the phone to drain completely. Try charging when battery goes beyond 25%.

3. Observed that USB charging ( computer or power bank ) is faster than wall charger.

Thanks,
Ravi

My nexus 5 shows 1hours 40 minutes which is the exact time it should charge from 0 to 100 but sometimes it shows 3 hrs sometimes 2hr sometimes 6 hrs.
I have a sony 5000 mah power bank. when i connect my nexus 5 to that with nexus 5 usb cable it still shows the same problem.
I have connected a couple of chargers but still same problem.
Can somebody tell me what the problem is?

Hi so this is the third forum ive come too and im still dnt figure it out. So i left my original nexus charger somewhere and had been using another samsung turbo charger since then,it displays charging slowly. So i plugged it into the main and went to the battery setting and it says charging over USB, and when i plug it to the computer it detects my device for the transfer options and stays recognized. I've cleaned the port twice through professionals, ive changed moreover atleast 20 different cables and chargers (all samsung). how should i proceed now?
