Facebook (build 140579)

I had the same issue for the past day with my HTC Driod Incredible and I had to go to Menu-Applications-All Applications and force stop the "Downloads" and "Download Manager" for it to stop. I just now did this so I don't know if it'll pop up again but at least it's gone for now.

thanks so much for all this info on the f/b build problem i have had this prob for over a week and it was constantly draining the battery went to downloads as suggested and deleted it , seems to have worked but i still wonder why it did it in the first place ???

Mine finally downloaded on WiFi, but when it went to install asking for new permissions that pretty much gave the app unrestricted access to call logs, contacts, etc, I aborted the install.

Now, I have to cancel the download whenever I launch the app.

Getting close to just uninstalling the app entirely.

I had the same problem with Facebook build 140579 and was able to stop the download by the following method. I have the Evo 3d and from the main screen I used the search feature and typed in download, a screen with an arrow and labled downloads showed up and I found the facebook app actively trying to download which I was able to stop . There were other app's as well, but I have never seen this screen before and I thought I had checked everything on the phone. Best of luck to all and I hope this helps.

Got the same problem since yesterday.
In your page, Click the download application, then other downloads, and erase. It works on my Galaxy Note.

Thank you ,,It worked for me to..I have the bionic droid phone..was wondering why my phone was running out ...the download said in progess ,no wonder..

Thank you so much for the screen shots! I was finally able to fix this on my crappy T-Mobile G2X

Blessings,

I've decided to add some screenshots to help out since I understand that looks for the Download app can be confusing.

Below is a screenshot of my home screen and what I need to click to get to all of my apps. There should be something similar on whatever phone/tablet you are using.

This is a screenshot of the app that you are looking for:

When you open up the Downloads app you should see Facebook (build 140579). On my phone I had to hold down on it and drag it to a trash can. Once I removed this it took care of the issue.

I was getting a looping facebook update notification hours on end. I deleted the app because it would not stop. Now Im using Friendcaster pro for facebook. It gets the job done and without the persistant notification. I think I might keep it as a replacement. I dont like auto updates without my knowledge or consent and then to go about it this way is alarming.

If I touch on it, it just closes up and I tried holding my finger on the spot for a minute and nothing happens. I uninstalled facebook, then re-installed it. I took out my battery. It just stays there and uses up my battery power. I've even run Avast and Lookout and they didn't find anything. I have a Galaxy 4 Blaze.

Everyone seems to suffer from this annoying problem.
I have found a solution:
keep pressing on it till you get "App info", then force stop it and clear date.

This worked for me and hope it works for you guys. ;)

I have an zte x500 . I can't get rid of a 140579 Facebook download. What is this and how do I get rid of it!

Does anyone know where this update for Facebook came from? What is it? The entire process seemed fishy....

Sent from my amazing HTC

Everything seems to point to that it says actually from Facebook. I didn't apply it and deleted what they downloaded to my phone and they haven't tried again.

I agree fishy. And they were trying to get around the developer terms of service with Google Play. I have an idea they hit their hands slapped and won't be doing it again.

After stopping the auto download 140579 a few days ago, i got a notice from google play today a new FB update is available..wondering if I should even bother installing it haha
