Finally caught up! 4.2.2 (JDQ39)

The update will fail also if you modded anything from the original Google image of 4.1.1...to avoid the error just download the Google factory image and fastboot the flash all file...you will be factory stock 4.1.1 which is exactly what the update is looking for and radios here are big improvement with holding 4g signal

The only thing I've done is unlock the bootloader and root the phone. Have not changed anything else.

Did you try flashing stock 4.1.1 and then flashing 4.2.2? You would lose root if you do, but you can reroot.

It's easy peasy to use fastboot on Ubuntu. It's the method I personally recommend, and it will save your tail more often than not.

I had Ubuntu runnin on it - its just when I was done and wanted to get back to my android setup, somehow the partitions got screwed up / corrupted and I lost access to all the android os stuff .. luckily I had it all backed up on my pc so I just completely wiped the thing and just started from scratch .. one reason why I love the nexus platform lol

I can't say it is too much worse than 4.1.1. How long did it take you to get down to 15% on 4.1.1?

I have never been able to make it 24 hours with a single battery charge with my GNex and that includes the 2100mAh battery if I am actually using the phone, and I am not a heavy phone user.

I think that's going to be my only option, unfortunately. Was hoping to do this without wiping my phone though. Will probably just wait for OTA.

Seems like I'd at least get 4 hrs before battery indicator would turn red. If using Navigation and podcast probably dead in 40 minutes. Have to use a 2.1 amp car charger and charge only USB cable.

Happened to me the first days after I installed it. After a couple of battery cycles, my device is somewhat back to normal as far as battery life (about 8.5 hours a day).

Yes but most of those are usually only 1 Amps. To get the most juice get a USB charger for an iPad that provides 2.1 Amps and use a charge only cable. If you use a data cable you will only get the .5 amp USB standard. Contrary to what many people believe you can draw more than 1 Amp to a Galaxy Nexus. With a 2.1 Amp charger and a charge only cable I estimate I'm drawing about 1.5 amps. You can make a charge only cable by sorting the data wires. Or you can get them online. I got this one:

The USB cable that came with my GNex says charging (A/C) when plugged into the wall and says charging (USB) when plugged into my computer.

I've found AC wall adapters internally short the data wires to give AC charging. Most car adapters don't. If you use that wire on a car adapter I bet it would say USB charging.

One thing I have found though is some vendors seem to sometimes mix up what they sell as sell as "charge only". I've seen that some places will sell it as data only but it will have data. This particular item from this vendor was correct for me but from the reviews it looks like some people received data cables. I'v had that experience from other vendors too. I think sometimes they don't understand what they or selling. Or at least the clerk pulling inventory doesn't know.

I flashed back to the 4.1.1 radios, which of all the radios have worked the best for me.

Do you need root or need to unlock the boot loader to load just the radios? When I flashed 4.2.2 OTA update using Nexus Root Toolkit I didn't have to unlock the boot loader nor root so I didn't have to re-install all my apps and data.
