Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

Are you saying it's not worth $1k or it didn't cost $1k? Because it definitely did cost $1000, is it worth that? Time will tell. I love everything about the phone besides the fps, hopefully Samsung will fix that.

There is not $1k in value with the other offerings in the market.

They've been "trying" to perfect this technology for 2 years that's why it wasn't in the s8. So it's not new to Samsung just new to us. Basically it wasn't ready for main stream, but Samsung said f it and released it anyways.

Never heard that before

Hilarious Samsung talks reachability in their UI yet forget the area we use the most, the app folders. OnePlus got it right.

Then you look at the area they concentrated on and see a whole .5" in reach advantage in the settings menu.

And did not quite make it on the dialer.

Negative attention from who? People on this forum who account for 0.5% of all people who will buy these phones?

I haven't seen a single review yet that has mentioned the FPS being a huge issue.
How many of those reviews are from people who get compensation from Samsung? I find most reviews for Samsung or apple are by fanboys. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Samsung fanboy myself and usually deal with any issue I have, but this one is far from minor.

Correct and that's why the S8 ended up with the FPS in an awkward place. It was a last minute decision to bail on the front reader.

For the lockscreen the fingerprint reader worked 50% of the time for me and then I removed the preinstalled screen protector and it works 60% of the time now as far as unlocking from the lockscreen. I also use my phone a lot with lastpass and unlocking banking and other apps. In those cases it works 80% of the time for me.

I'm not sure how I feel about the performance yet. I am thinking that the side fingerprint reader might've been a better choice for the S10 this year until the performance of the ultrasonic fingerprint reader was figured out. Either way, I'm very satisfied with the phone and will be keeping it.

I've not finished setting my phone up but in the couple of hours I played with it last night the in display sensor seems to work fine for me. I usually add the same fingerprint more than once too just so it picks it up even easier. Used the facial recognition on my S9 more than the FPS, and I think I'll probably do the same on my S10. After turning the "swipe to unlock" option off, the facial recognition is stupid fast to unlock IMO
I have basically resorted to using face unlock for the most part, because it's 10x faster than the fps even when it works on the first try. The problem is face unlock isn't as secure. I currently have all 4 slots used on one thumb and still have issues.

And it worked like a champ. Also the learning curve on the s8 was significantly easier than the s10. I was sceptical about the rear mounted fps, but it turned out to be great.

Have you tried your finger instead of your thumb ? Sometimes it can register better prints then your thumb.

Thank you for sharing. I am very frustrated as well... Sweet phone. MAJOR flaw out of the box.

Use the finger
you normally touch or scroll apps

Maybe you dont understand what I mean
You hold your phone with one hand while the other is free , register that finger on the free hand ...instead of trying to do one hand with the thumb. Might work out better

While definitely not as fast as the note 9 or other devices. It works for me almost all the time. There have been a few times it has taken a couple tries. But I'm not having these issues. And I left the screen protector on.

Sorry to hear others are having problems.

No, it doesn't work well. I'm sure it will improve. Now, if I can stop trying to unlock my phone with the nonexistent FPS on the back of the phone, I'd be good.
