Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

I have not, but that would make it awkward to use and that's probably worse than only working 70% of the time.

No disrespect, but maybe you should just return your phone? You've peppered the last few pages and seem super frustrated. I have a feeling that this is not the phone for you.

And it worked like a champ. Also the learning curve on the s8 was significantly easier than the s10. I was sceptical about the rear mounted fps, but it turned out to be great.

The fingerprint sensor on the S8 was placed in a bad spot. I remember touching the camera lens a lot. I hated the placement. I think that's why they moved where it was placed on the S9

I'm dealing with the one downside of an otherwise great phone. Just trying to help others out that might have a major issue with a less than perfect fps. The fps is not a deal breaker for me, but it could be for someone else. I'm not peppering anything this is a forum to share our experiences with phones and this specific thread is talking about the faults in the fps. I'm still holding out hope Samsung will make it better and if not I'll be jumping to the note 10 in 6 months and I'm sure it will be improved by then.

I agree with turning on the screen sensitivity and seeing if that helps. Works much better for me and I'm not having much of an issue with my tiny lady thumbs.

I think we are just upset that other phones nailed it, and this is supposed to better and next gen. So far complete garbage.

True she's in the same boat as any of us... but she plays with more phones in a year than most people do in 10 so you'd think she has a better grasp on gadgets and fiddle with it better than most to figure out quirks like this better so if she says she's having issues, it is worth raising an eyebrow if you like her history or tech reviews.

Anyways, always growing pains on first releases/first month or so. After a few security updates most quirks get addressed imo.

Devils advocate. Her 10 years of reviewing wouldn't apply though since this is new tech. She has to learn like the rest of us. And I have watched numerous reviewers where they spit out wrong facts. Or describe something wrong. Problem with a lot of reviewers is they are in such a hurry to get a video out to get the views they can sometimes miss something.

Exactly. This is a new "feature", highlighted by Samsung - finally revealed in their flagship handset - after years of pushing it back as they struggled to get it to work well. Of course people are going to come to Samsung S10 forums and discuss their experience with an aspect of the phone that is a major change from previous offerings. No one is declaring the end of the world, or "Bashing Samsung" - they are relaying their personal experience with the feature so far. If the experience is not entirely positive, people should be able to report that without others somehow taking it personally. We want honest first impressions, good or bad.

Very true that other fingers may work better, but ugh, that just takes pulling the phone out of pocket and unlock with one hand out of the equation which is probably the preferred method for... 90+% of the people out there.

Have you tried your finger instead of your thumb ? Sometimes it can register better prints then your thumb.

Have you tried a light double/triple tap routine to see if it would catch your print??

I still have my Note 8 and I've never been a fan of the fps... works 85%+ of the time and I still cringe every time I am at the card reader at the store wondering if it will be one of those times I'm stuck getting Samsung Pay to read my fps. But I use SP almost 100% time at stores.

But after a year+ of owning phone I think I saw a vid of someone doing a double tap when they use their phone and tried it and found it works almost all the time. So now I find myself double tapping if my initial long press doesn't read and works. (not sure if ultrasonic sensor will let you double tap like traditional fps)

It's gotten to the point where my thumbs are starting to feel sore from pressing harder (after being directed to do so). Sorry, but it's not cool. TBH, it's a PITA and I don't look forward to using the FPS because I know it's gonna likely be a PITA. I'm not going to return the phone or anything as I'm fine with using the pattern but to know the FPS doesn't work as intuitively or easily as the Note 9 I had and many phones before is, well, disappointing. I don't think I should have to "learn" how to use the new FPS. It should work as easily as the FPS that came before it, but perhaps I'm unique in expecting that. I like everything else about the phone though and perhaps AT&T will release the update that makes the fps work better, who knows.

I agree , just trying give other options for people struggling with the sensor

I too was frustrated with the FPS at first but it has gotten alot better. I put my face in the system so when I lift the phone if it doesn't unlock by that I can still do the FPS and get it. Overall happy now. So it takes an extra second to get into the phone....Just relax and stop being in such a rush.

I'm sure there's a sweet spot once you find it, muscle memory will kick in. I pick mine up from Best Buy in an hour

I didn't assume it supposed to faster than old school. Insignificant speed difference anyway and are we all in that much of a hurry?

I scrolled by and saw that so I figured I'd post it. Honestly, I think people are making too big a deal. It's new tech and people just have to get used to it; just like we had to get used to sealed batteries and dongles. Once people develop muscle memory and Samsung pushes out appropriate updates, it'll be fine. 🤷🏻
