Got the 4.2.2 update forced upon us a couple days ago (OTA) and am seriously bummed. Although almost everything seems to work as it used to (despite complaints of others of a variety of standard features being somehow disabled), most of the changes/improvements (to features we actually use) are quite annoying and even unacceptable to us.
One of the games the wife was quite fond of quit working but I worked that out by downloading and installing the SAME (but updated) game from the Google Play Store rather than its original source: Samsung Apps. Go figger???
The weather widget has changed and we don't like it at all. The old one (some refer to it as the S3 style) was perfect (IMHO) but the one that replaced it is crude and unattractive. Can anyone tell me how I could get the old one back?
Another real annoyance is to the stock browser. The tabs are somehow LARGER (taller)...taking up more screen space of the browser, less actual browser window available for viewing. The update has also ruined the bookmarks. The folders are larger and quite stupid looking. In addition, if the browser screen is customized to slide the left-side folders off the screen, upon re-opening of the "bookmarks", the configuration reverts back to having 2 sets of folders: left-side small, right-side super-large. Hate it.
Another change (although trivial) is the change of the banner color to some puky, dark teal. I suppose if it were that color with 4.1.2, I would probably be complaining about whatever color they'd have changed it to with the 4.2.2 update.
I've got a longer list of "updates" that have really left a bad taste in my mouth but I'll save them for another time. Overall, I'd give almost anything to get 4.1.2 restored to the wife's wonderful Note 8.0. I'm seriously tempted to drop the big bucks AGAIN for another Note 8.0 with 4.1.2 and deny any OS updates (if that's possible). I'm probably gonna get flamed for these comments but I'm hoping there will be replies to this tirade to help alleviate some of the problems (IMO) the 4.2.2 update has caused us.
I've been told that a "factory reset" would NOT revert the OS back to 4.1.2. Is there some hope with use of the "recovery console"???
Regards,
