So these were apparently taken with the One M9:

Purported HTC One M9 Camera Samples Surface – Don’t Look That Great | Made of Tech

I don't think they look that great at all. Looking at them in full size they are really smudgy. I looked at some full size photos from the Note 4 and they are way better looking...that kinda sucks as the reason I've been hanging on to my M7 and didn't get the M8 was the camera. I'm going to give the Galaxy S6 a serious look now, same 16MP shooter as the Note 4 with supposed lens and other improvements + OIS should equal a really good mobile camera. Couple that with the better build quality compared to previous Samsung phones and I might just be willing to forgo the the HTC One for another year

The first word in the OP's link.......

Purported - said to be true or real but not definitely true or real.

As according to Webster dictionary. Glad I could help.

You had to look it up?

They look just as good as the Note 4's imo.

While I personally disagree, it is impossible to compare since there is no comparison pics with the note 4.
personally, I think that they look soft or smudgie like what the gflex 2 does when taking indoor shots. A small amount of sharpening filter would do wonders, but I find them great compared to photos using HTC's aggressive sharpening of the past.

What I worry about is that with an F2.2 lens without OIS it is going backwards in the low light photography that I mostly would like use a cellphone for. If you have the m7, then you have an F2.0 lens with OIS. That is a far better combo for low light and night shots.

There is even some physics as to why on a 20mp camera sensor that an F2.2 lens is no good.... But I'm sure that software fixes this, so I'm not too worried about it just yet.

If you understand optics and mathematics then a couple of references for you :
Search "airy disk", "angular resolution" and "optical resolution"*

Again, I wouldn't take this subject to serious. Software can do wonders to overcome physics.

i never buy a phone based on its camera. if you want professional photos buy and use a real camera.
