From BB to Incredible (Have issues, need help, advice)

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to disable the VZW BA. I only provides me with syncing options but I can't find where to disable the VZW sync. I did find another thread that addressed this issue but it didn't seem like anybody was able to either delete or disable the VZW BA. Any advice on how to disable it?

Menu>Settings>Accounts

Make sure Backup Assistant is not highlighted.

Yeah, I know where to find it but how do I disable it?

I can't imagine why you would want to disable it. But anyway...

Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync >
(Backup Assistant is listed under the Manage Accounts heading)

EDIT: ah, you know what...I thought disabling it would be as easy as tapping on the green sync button. I was wrong. Trying to remember how it's done now...

EDIT 2: this post will help you:

Another question, how do I access my SD card from the computer? I don't have an option for "mount/unmount" in my notifications panel.

God, I must seem like the biggest noob (we'll, I guess I am). Just trying to figure all this stuff out.

I would assume that it would be better to only have one sync program syncing my info as opposed to multiple programs. Although, doesn't VZW BA backs up everything while the google and other sync's only backup those specific applications?

I've literally had the phone for less then 24 hours and I'm just trying to figure everything out. I'm reading up on rooting but I'm not a techie so I'm not sure if that's a good ideas at this point considering I hardly understand the basics of this phone let alone the rooting process.

Thanks for helping out with all my noob questions!

VZ's Backup Assistant only backs up your contacts. It's very handy when you decide to upgrade to another VZ phone later on. I've had the Inc since before launch day & have had no problem with conflicts with any other syncs.

Yeah, good reason to keep it around. Thanks

Don't sweat it. We're all n00bs early on, but this forum has been very good about helping out. Suggest you search the forums before you post all your questions, though.

When I plug my phone into my PC (Win7), I see the "Connect to PC" window come up. I then select the 'Disk drive' option. Two popups on the PC appear: 1 to access the phone's internal memory, the other to access the SD card.

I'm assuming you've properly inserted your SD card and mounted it. To verify that the card is mounted, Menu > Settings > SD Card & phone storage > (your card is mounted if you see: "Unmount SD card" under Utilities).

Thanks dude, I appreciate it.

It does look like my SD card is mounted but when I connect to my laptop I don't get any notification popups on the Inc. I have gone into settings>connect to pc and I've selected disk drive as the default connection type and I've checked the ask me option. When I try to search the SD card from my computer I click on both of the available removable drive options but my computer is not recognizing the drives. I've uninstalled the drive software and then reinstalled the Inc driver software and still nothing.

Did you format the SD card within the Inc after you inserted it into the phone?

Beyond that, I'm afraid I may not have the answer for you. Doesn't sound like a Windows issue as you're seeing the 2 removable drive popups. You might want to ask around (in a new thread, perhaps) for details about which SD card to use. I understand there are different types; I just don't know much about SD cards myself. Sorry.

Yeah, it's strange. The two drives pop up but when I click on them it tells me to connect them. The Inc doesn't even ask me what kind of connection type I want when I connect to a pc even though I have that option selected.

I didn't reformat the SD card. I took the 8G card out of my Storm and replaced the 2G card that came with the Inc. IDK if the 8G card is compatible or not. I'll look into that before I try reformatting the SD card. I just wanted to be able to pull everything off the card first before I start messing around with rooting.

I guess I could always put the card back into my BB, pull the data from there, save it to my desk top and then put the card into the Inc and reformat it and eventually transfer the data back to the card assuming that my computer recognizes it after reformatting.

That is the exact recommendation that I heard way back when the Inc first came out. I pulled the data off the card via my BB Curve & reformatted the SD card in the Inc after installing it.

I hope that turns out to be your solution. Let us know how it turns out.

Yeah when I first got my phone the very first thing I did was take the card out of the BB transfer everything to my computer and let the phone reformat the card and put whatever files it needed to put on it on it and create it's own folders. Then move everything I wanted back over. Granted I re-encoded a bunch of video for the new screen resolution etc.

Yeah, I took everything off the card, put it back into the Inc, reformatted it but I'm still not able to access the SD card via my laptop. I really don't know what the problem is. I've got to got the a Verizon store to grab a car charger so maybe I'll mention it to them to see if they have any suggestions.

Thanks again for your help guys

No problem.

One more thing to try is:

Menu --> Settings --> Connect to PC --> Check mark "Ask me". That will make the dialog show up when you plug your usb cable in on how your want to connect it.

Other than that the only other thing it could be is a bad sd reader in the phone. Or the SD card not installed right, which I don't believe it is or you wouldn't have been able to let the phone format it. So good luck maybe the guys at the store can show ya something!

Yeah, I'm thinking that it is a bad sd reader or a bad port on the phone. I have the ask me option selected but it never pops up when I connect the phone so it looks like that is probably the problem since it doesn't appear that the phone knows that it is connected to the computer however it does charge and I could access pictures on the phone from the sd card but never from the computer. ARRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

Does the internal memory ever show up on your computer? Have you tried installing the drivers for the phone onto your computer? Or maybe even a different USB port on the computer itself.

The internal memory doesn't show up on the computer. When I connect the Inc, removable disk E and F appear in my computer. When I click on either drive I'm asked to insert disk into that drive. This happens no matter which USB port I plug the Inc into.

I assume that the drivers for the phone were installed correctly when I connected the phone for the first time. I've tried uninstalling them and then reinstalling them and nothing. I even connected to a different computer and I'm not able to access the phone memory/sd card from that computer either.

It's probably the phone, then. No worries . . . I had to return my first phone for a different issue.

If you get a replacement Inc, check the phone's refurb status:

##778 > View Mode > Display

IMHO, I don't think VZ should be sending you a refurb. So, you ought to see <Not available> under "Refurbishment status" & "Refurbishment Date"

Do they send replacement on devices still covered under manufacturers warranty? I don't think they do. Yeah it sounds like the phone is probably the issue then, if you can see the SD inside the phone but not on the computer it sound like the actual usb port may have issues. Good luck at the store!
