Question: when phones like the two Nexus phones or the new Moto X phones get released, how is someone supposed to figure out which is right for them? I mean, none of these will be available in stores to check out physically, right? All just purchased directly from manufacturer now(this is Moto, I assume it's also Nexus). With these phone sizes and weights changing so much, how is everyone going to make a decision if there are no floor models to handle?

Buy them all and utilize the generous return policies of the devices which don't best fit your needs.

These will be in stores in time... some like Verizon did not pick up the Nexus devices for a couple months after it was released. The Moto X (2014) was in AT&T right after it was released... and maybe they will do the same with new Moto Style (I say maybe just because Motorola changed the top end Moto to be just a Pure Edition and have all LTE bands in one device so it will work on any carrier, and that might cause issues with some putting this in stores... only time will tell).

The other thing I do when these are just released is to watch some of the good sites for their reviews on these devices and how they compare with other devices that are available and out now. Personally, I respect most of the reviews by Android Central over some of these other sites, but it's always good to see what others say about it. Most of us will know from the official specs if that device will fit our needs, but it's always good to see the first few device reviews on these devices.

I am hoping Google takes the Motorola approach and ditches the carriers and sells directly to consumers. Where I live, the price hike of having Verizon is very much worth it since everything else gets bad signal if you leave the populated parts of the city, and I really rather not wait months because Verizon is trying to shove more bloat on my phone.

couldn't disagree more. these phones keep getting more powerful, yet they choose thinness over battery. I'm a moderate to heavy user, and there's not a phone available in the US that would last me a day. there can and should be though, and I honestly believe one of these Chinese manufacturers will try and fill that void and we'll see two day battery life. ... since so many people "obsess" about battery it's obviously an issue. I'll be content when I see a 4000+ battery, until then I'll continue to voice my opinion.

and haven't you voiced your concerns and dislikes on this very thread? why is it OK for you to mention the features you prefer, yet we're not allowed to share our frustration with battery life, which is an issue for about 95% of us (per that recent poll here).

I'm a moderate user and couldn't get through a full day w/o a charge on this Note 4 which has a massive battery. The point of my post is people will never be satisfied w/ a battery until it lasts all week. They may be at first but eventually they're going to want more. I wouldn't say it's an issue over people being greedy about the onscreen time they feel their phone should have. Not only that, what you do w/ your phone, as you know, has the biggest wear on the battery. If I'm constantly playing Clash of Clans all day, sure, this thing will die quickly even w/ a 4k battery. If I'm just browsing the WWW then it will last all day. You could call it an issue all you'd like but how many people have made drastic changes to their battery size and structure? Sure, they're biggest as the phones are bigger but you don't see companies getting 5k size batteries yet b/c people are whining it's not big enough. Why?

And I never said no one couldn't vent their frustrations. It's just a simple, playful jab at people who post about batteries 60% of the time. They will not be satisfied even w/ the number the battery size says it is.

Oh, I doubt that. If Google intends to keep piggybacking Project Fi on the T-Mobile and Sprint networks, they're not going to want to alienate either of those two carriers. Besides, Google and T-Mobile have a longstanding relationship over the Nexus brand.

I'm not. Not until Google bakes T-Mobile's WiFi calling into the Android OS. And I doubt that including "support" for WiFi calling in Marshmellow will amount to the same thing.

It was part of their announcement for the new Moto X's. They said it would only be available through Motomaker and not in carrier stores. At least, I think that's what they said.

IIRC, Motorola did say they would be partnering with Best Buy to sell the Moto X Style in-store, so that's one way you might be able to test it out in person. What I usually do is look up the dimensions of the phone and compare that to whatever I know I can get my hands on, including my current phone. The One M9 and G4 are more or less the same size as what the new Nexus 5 will be according to leaks, so try handling those. I haven't looked into the Huawei dimensions yet. As far as materials, you're kind of on your own to trust people who have reviewed them.

This is true for so many specs, though. We're seeing it now with display resolution. A lot of users demand QHD displays, but a lot of us say Full HD is enough. A lot of users think 13MP is good enough for a camera, but eventually we'll see everyone wanting 20MP or more. That's just the nature of how we respond to improvements in technology.

Ya for sure but both sizes 64 an 32gb?? I got my nexus 6 from AT&T but they only offered the 32gb. And in blue.. I would have preferred to get the 64gb in blue . i was going from one next program phone to another and wasn't able to buy the phone from Google or Motorola out of stock and had other financial obligations..

probably not. my post was in response to someone just wondering where he can test em out in person. of course finding the color and size storage is a whole other issue. I don't expect Google to suddenly solve their distribution issues, but hopefully it'll at least improve. trying to get the white 64MB version last year was a nightmare.

Ya I tried for weeks to get 64gb. And was always out of stock so I said hell with it got it from AT&T.. Funny thing is two weeks after I got it Google had blue 64gb in stock... Unfortunately I spent the money on a new couch..... Dang.....

Absolutely true. Battery just seems to be on top of everyone's list. I'm a total camera snob I'll definitely admit it but I understand that the software is the most important part, not the MP.

Your last line is absolutely true and it will never stop. People will always want more and demand more. Society in general is rarely satisfied.

Battery is definitely a top choice for me. I agree with how no matter what size it is, it's never going to satisfy anyone. I just want a battery to last me with good daily use for over a day.
