Has there been any word on whether the back (of the LG anyway) will be removable? Because, these images certainly look to me as if it might be designed to come off. Would seem an odd design/aesthetic choice, otherwise. Or is that just my wishful thinking showing?

I doubt it... just for the fact that they have built in figure print reader is part of the back.

If it is just a G4 underneath, just like the Nexus 5 was a G2 underneath... it may come with a removable battery.

I do love how simple the designs are for the Nexus line, the fact they focus on the software and keep it neutral with the design really works for me.

I agree about the simplicity of design and focus on software. It's the main reason I'm so interested in this potentially being my next phone. However, due to the 5.2" screen, it's pretty clear it cannot simply be a LG G4 "under the hood", as that has a 5.5" screen; at least not completely.

I'd say there's about a 1% chance Google has a removable back on these. It's not very Nexus-like.

Exactly my thinking ..., which is what prompted me to ask. It doesn't seem very Nexus-like based on recent iterations, but the design in the pictures sure makes it look as if that back plate is a pretty clearly defined separate piece that seems to be just betting to be removed (understanding, of course, that these are merely leaks and renders, and may well be off the mark). And, as Alex_NJ suggested, since it's being built by LG and recent LGs have had removable backs, it's certainly a possibility.

Respectfully, I don't think that would be an issue. Just like the camera lens and flash, the fingerprint reader is unlikely to be an actual part of the back cover plate itself. There will most likely simply be a hole in the back plate providing access for those hardware features to be revealed from within.

LG G2 5.2in display vs Nexus 5 4.95in display the ram, hardware camera,chip and display technology were all the same between the two. The size battery and G2 hardware buttons on the back, the OS and camera software features were difference between the two. With that said Nexus 5 of 2015 can be very much be a LG G4 which not surprising or different what Google had done with most of there Nexus line so far.

Google does this to be able release Nexus phone every year as well keep cost down. For example most Nexus phones are based on technology earlier in the year but technology improves all through out year and what the technology was earlier in year is lot cheaper to produce
at the end of year. This why most Nexus devices have such appealing price point even the Nexus 6 of laster is simply because what I have stated.

If Google were to use technology that coming out later in year or even next year then their devices would be very expensive. Google is mostly about Nexus devices that are good bang for your buck off contract device with tried improve and cost effective hardware.

I get your point about the camera, and it's a good one.... none the less, this is all just speculation since we really don't know and this is still just rumors and mostly just guess work on everybody's part right now... even those Leaked sites and tweets.

Except it is over the spot where the battery would be. Also, I've never seen a removable back with a camera hump on the back cover like that.

Hmm…the more I look at this design, the less I believe rumors that the new Nexus 5 will have a metal frame. If it doesn't, I'm automatically getting the Huawei phone instead.

I agree for both the 5 and the 6. A metal unbody design just seems wrong for a Nexus. Too "elegant." Too "boardroom."

I think it would be a good idea for Google to encourage Android OEMs to step their build quality up with an elegant Nexus device. That's one less thing iOS will have to boast about. Plus I'm buying this for personal use, so I'd like something that feels nice.

So I just tweeted @evleaks, asking him if he stood by his claim of the SD 820 being in the Huawei Nexus. He quickly tweeted back, saying, "Not 'my claim'-- info from a very trusted source". I also asked if he could at least provide a guesstimate about the size of the battery, and he tweeted back a status saying that I should Google it.

totally agree ... I've said it before, my decision will in no way, shape or form be based on anything aesthetic. all things being equal, I'll consider looks, but a Nexus offers what no other phone can, and I wouldn't let something like metal trim, or a small hump get in the way of what's most important to me.

that said, I don't live under a rock and understand that just how simplicity is important to me, a good looking phone is a big priority to others. I do think people kinda go overboard though. I mean, if somebody truly wants a Nexus for the reasons that make it a Nexus, they're not gonna let some minor detail in the looks department be the reason they choose to go elsewhere.
