Froyo and Docks. Does the 3.5mm output work for you?

There is an update available from android central that allows you to update the docking app. Works perfectly.

Do you know what the name of it is? I've tried searching for it but can't find it. Thanks.:)

Edit: Never mind. Found it.

I have the latest Samsung version of Desk Home app, but still no audio to earplugs when plugging into the audio out on the dock. Audio continues to play through the phone speaker.
Even tried uninstalling Desk Home app and reinstalling it after upgrading to EB13.

The tiny tiny manual that came with the dock states the headphones/earbuds won't work. Only external speakers and the like.

I'd type the exact text but my manual is at home.

I just received my home dock yesterday and the manual actually says that headphones/earbuds are not supported.

I also have this home app that someone referenced on page 2: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.samsung.spr.deskhome&feature=search_result

I haven't yet tried it but I assume since the manual says it won't work, it won't work. However it does say that external speakers will work. It's possible it's a power issue (the audio port may require an external power source which speakers normally have.)

heresy_fnord, it does work. As winfenzy pointed out in an earlier post, you need to hit the Audio Mute symbol on the Desk Home display. I am listening to music with earplugs plugged into the dock as I type this. Be sure and have the latest version of Desk Home installed.

Plugged the earbuds that came with the phone into the dock today. Sound came out, but it was tinny crap. So, not useable for me unless someone has a fix for the sound quality.

OK But this is what the manual says so I'm not sure if they just changed their mind:

* The Line out feature requires the phones OS to be Android 2.2 or higher and will not be operational in earlier Android Versions...

* You cannot listen to music by connecting earphones to the line out jack.

It's great if people found a workaround but even the manual says that earphones don't work. It seems to me they had originally intended for you to only be able to hook into an external speaker or to a tuner or something like that and listen to music.

I'm not against it working, just that the manual specifically specifies that it doesn't work.

I don't see these in the market- is this because I'm rooted with DK28?
All I can say is I'm on the official stock 2.2 release (EB15 I believe it's called) and both the Car and desk dock apps are available.

You have to search for this specifically: "Car Home Samsung" and "Desk Home Samsung".

Generally speaking, if you don't see an app, yes it's because of the hardware / software you are using at the time.

There's no bass when listening to headphones through the dock. The sound is much better through the phone's jack. So I guess the reason the manual says phones won't work is that the dock's line out needs to go into another amp?

That would be my somewhat educated guess. The port has no amplification and so therefore if you can manage to get sound it's "weak".

I'm guessing plugged into a stereo you have no issue since your stereo (or Home Theatre Tuner) would be amplified.

Same goes for the car dock / in your car as you are already amplified there.

I meant to take my dock downstairs to try it out at home, I just haven't yet.

Hi! I just got the Samsung Car Cradle for my Epic as a gift and having problem with the audio. I'm not really understanding what's going on here to fix the problem. Would you mind giving me a step by step as to what I need to download so I can get this working through my car speakers? Also, will Pandora work through this too? Thanks!

You need to search for the car dock app from samsung. When you plug your phone into the dock, it will then have a button that looks like a mute, but its actually a re-routing button. What I do is open Pandora, then go to the dock app and press the button, that should route the audio through the 3.5mm jack in the back.

Thanks for the reply. I tried it with my computer speakers and it sounds good--same as if I plug the speakers directly into the phone. Tried headphones and earbuds. Both are weak. Bummer.

kinda works on my fascinate w/ no mods

I have the debloated (kept touchwiz, no bing) "ED01" build of froyo on my fascinate and it works SOMETIMES when I have the stock (not from market) desktop or car dock app open. I just open it, leave it running, open google music or whatever and it works inconsistently...but even when it does, it sounds SOOO terrible.

:mad:I am pissed as H-E-double-hockey-sticks on this one. I've tried redoing & reconnecting so many times but it is unbelievably staticy. The audio channel is picking up interference from the circuitry of the phone. When I touch the screen, refresh location, etc etc, the static intensifies. TERRIBLE disappointment. can't wait till I can just ditch this POS for HTC's newest shiniest (dual core TBolt successor??) in about 9 months. F*CK SAMSUNG

Does anyone know if there is an app that will activate my 3.5mm audio jack?

I cannot hear music or any sounds through the Samsung earbuds that came packaged with my Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G.

I contacted Samsung support and all they could tell me is to reboot the phone, or do a factory reset.

Rebooting my phone did not work, and I will not do a factory reset because all my settings, apps, etc. would be lost.

I also inserted a different pair of earbuds that work fine on my other mobile devices.

It's so strange because the sounds or music I hear come out the phone's speaker instead of the earphone jack.

I also checked my phone's sound settings but still no sound comes out the 3.5 mm audio jack.

Thanks.

Sound like a hardware problem to me. take it to Sprint and they may be able to replace the jack. If not they will replace the phone and you lose the data anyway
