Froyo DK28 is out for EPIC

Ended up rolling mine back using Odin. Had a scare that i bricked it because Odin kept failing and I could not power up the Epic only get it to the download screen. The problem was my USB port, unplug from front, plug into back and Odin did the rest, quickly and easilly. I had some minor issues with Froyo saw alot that i liked but just want to wait for the official. Nice changes to touchwiz, flash player. They ruined the messenger client although I was using Handcent anyway. I will never get the fixation with bubble chats, the android style is so much better imo.

Our pleasure Royce. Be sure to check back with us and let us know how everything went. As for z4root, you should be fine there as well. It works on other 2.2 devices so there shouldn't be any reason why it won't work here.

Well I have herd about some bugs so i Installed it played with it for a day and then went back to my original worked well i did notice there was less lag on things But i want the bug free Official release when it comes out its fine just the way it is for now :) I am an Android noob so ya haha

It was really easy to install and also restore from my back up as well I am rooted so that made back up and restore easy...

But again thanks for your help you guys are great...

This leaked build has been nothing but a disaster. It's slow, buggy and annoying. Battery life is worse than the Pre.

The phone hangs constantly. GPS refuses to lock. Touchwiz takes forever to redraw after an applicaion is closed. I regret going the unofficial route and will never do it again.

That said, I'm more excited about Froyo than ever before.

They ruined the Messaging app (Bubble chat? Really?), but the new features are awesome overall.

Today, I find the following issues:
1) NO GPS. I repeat, NO GPS! I let it try to get a lock for nearly 200 miles through a number of resets, GPS on/off cycles, programs, with NO luck.

This is the only bug/issue that I had with the update. Other than that, the other issues you stated, I did not have.

I've definitely come to the conclusion that there are in fact two very different version of TouchWiz floating around out there. I've had bubble chats since day one (TouchWiz 3.0?) as opposed to others I suppose have had something different.

Everything's going fine so far. Several things I've noticed...

* The Music Player widget is gone.

* The Applications are not alphabetically sorted unless I choose list view.

* If I have one Exchange email, selecting it brings up the Inbox and not the message.

* The unread email count on the home screen shortcut may not match the actual unread count.

* Can't use *2 to dial Sprint Customer Service.

Yes, the music player widget is gone. In its place, the music controls have moved to the notification bar. It displays when music is playing.

Froyo problems solved!

I had multiple problems after upgrading to Froyo (DK28). The Alarm Clock would crash when I tried to set an alarm, music player would crash on startup, and GPS would not work at all.

I followed some instructions to use 0DIN to get it back to 2.1, then tried using 0DIN to go back to DK28 (after establishing a GPS lock in Eclair). That didnt work for some reason (said the MD5 checksum was bad...sigh!). So I ran the update.zip again and viola!

After quite a few headaches (and the loss of all my contacts!) I have a working version of Froyo with no problems so far!

Can't complain here...

I did the update.zip...even though I had to do a factory master reset because lots of things did not work if I didn't: Camera, music did not work...
But, since the reset, my Epic has only gotten better with time. Very responsive & much better than 2.1...Glad I did early release :)

Another thing I've noticed... messaging only puts a number over the Messaging icon. No audible or LED notifications. I just happened to glance at my phone to see I had 2 messages.

has anyone had a battery problem with this update?

it seems like amazon mp3 and media hub keep popping up

i am loving the update but its just seems the battery drains a little faster any help with keeping the battery life up

I've noticed WiFi eats battery while the screen is off. You can go to Settings>Wireless and network>Wi-Fi settings>press menu button>Advanced>Wi-Fi sleep policy>After 15 minutes, which helps. Or even better turn off WiFi when you aren't using your phone for a while (to save that extra minutes). Also toggling Airplane Mode to get rid of Time Without Signal @ 50% still works.

The leak is so buggy. The android keyboard does not have word suggestions and the Samsung keyboard does not have a way to turn off key press sound.

I like the bubble chat and i did not see any slow down at all. I have a friend with Samsung vibrant and it has the same chat.

Went back to DI18 after it was discovered that GPS can't get a lock. I know I can try that trick suggested on here to get it to work, but it's just not worth the hassle, as IMO the bad outweighs the good in DK28.

Its crazy how wildly different everyone's phone is reacting to this update. I have experienced no show stopping issues, but it certainly is buggy. My results after two days of use are as follows:

- GPS Works just as well as always, which is good. It did seem to take a big longer to connect but once it did I was golden

- The phone does seem slowler all around. Apps load slowler, going back to the home screen can take 5 to 10 seconds to redraw, and the phone is CONSTANTLY switching orintation when i don't want it to, which I never had an issue with before

- Wi-Fi will sometimes just not connect when click the "button" in the notification drop down, I'll then have to go into the Wi-Fi settings where it will say "error" under Wi-Fi. Then I'll click that to connect, and sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't. This is the biggest issue I have so far

- Battery life is worse for sure. Not horrible, but still pretty bad. If I turn 3G off, its ABOUT the same as Eclair, but if I'm on 3G its the worst. On Wi-Fi its better, but Wi-Fi for me used to be about the same battery drain as having 3G off which is deffinitly not the case now. Now, if I'm using the phone and the screen is on, even if the phone is plugged in, I will often still get the battery going down instead of up, that's pretty bad.

Well, I think that's the gist of it. Nothing completly horrible, but all of those things together make it pretty bad. I'm gonna stick with it for another week and see how I fair, but I'll probably go back to Eclair until the OTA or another release comes out. I honestly really like the new messenger and some of the new features, but nothing enough to make me keep something this buggy. I can't believe this update isn't buggy for some people! It makes me jealous!

Finally gave up, and went back to 2.1. No more flash :-( but my GPS is working great :-). I will wait for the official update.

Issues Found:
-GPS not working
-Slow to return to desktop from Applications
-Email kept pulling in old emails that where already read (in some cases 1 year old), email was set to 3 days.
-The running applications widget kept disappearing
-Battery usage was higher. 100 to 5 percent in 7 hours (2.2.1) 100 to 5 percent in 16 hours (2.1) under same usage.
-The screen would randomly light up, and open settings ???
-When on the screen would random shut off, and the power button would turn it back on, and open settings ???
-Sometime scrolling thru the desktops the settings would open???

Over all a good try that is almost complete. But the not working GPS is the deal breaker.

This leak seems to be very hit or miss for a lot of people. Some are reporting that it's working perfectly while others are saying there are still a lot of problems that haven't been fixed (such as GPS) while bringing even more issues (taking forever to redraw and such). Hopefully this isn't a final build for that exact reason.
