Why would it matter if you already have a Dx with 2.1 and the new ones come with 2.2? The update will be available soon and everyone can update. It would be VERY stupid to exchange a perfectly good X just to get 2.2.

Once again I think this depends on the rep you get. When I asked a phone rep what version my Droid X would ship with, she replied "um, with droid". I said what version of android? and she replied "X"......

Sorry if I'm slow, IDK if this was already discussed. I just got a text from a friend who works for a company who takes CS calls for Verizon, he says when he got to work it was on his computer on Verizons info it said by 8/13 froyo for droid and droid X will be released...
He also says that it will NOT include flash, but flash will be released through a later date OTA

Honestly I was told the 13th from a rep last week as well, but it was only going to some DX's, not all of them. CSR's rarely know what they are talking about when it comes to technical information though, so I'm betting no dice.

One can always dream though!

Yea that's the feeling I've got too. He has a original Droid and he really thinks its legitimate though I've been texting him about it for the last hour and a half.

The OG Droid will most likely get the 2.2 update on the 13th or there abouts. It's unlike that the X will, as there are several other minor bug fixes they want to include. Also, the OG needs to get it from a customer service POV, since the D2 will be shipping with it. I'd expect the X to start getting it between the last week of August to the first week (or so) of September, depending on whether any other bugs are discovered, and how long it takes to trouble shoot them.

Froyo Hearsay @ VZW store

So, this is from a guy I work with who I trust at his word. He was having ringer issues (amongst others) and took his X into the local VZW store, where as he was getting it looked at, overheard one of the techs talking to another customer about the 2.2 update being pushed now, albeit sllloowwly... like 2,000 - 3,000 phones at a time.

He told me that when he overheard this he immediately asked for clarification that it was indeed the 2.2 Froyo update for the DX, and that the VZW worker was saying that it IS being pushed now, but only a little at a time and you just had to sit back, wait, and get it when you get it. i.e. no way to force the update through the software update in the phone.

Now, on one hand this makes me insanely jealous as I had resigned myself to waiting another 2-3 weeks, but on the other hand I'm sort of inclined to believe that the VZW worker was full of it (or clueless, or both), as NO ONE that I have read on any forums (this one, droid-life, droidxforums, etc.) has said anything about hearing this information.

SOOO... what do you think? Plausible?

<rant> dammit Moto, you already have froyo up and runnning on nearly the same freakin phone (D2), what's the issue pushing Froyo for the DX? Is it teh 720p? is it the lack of keyboard? is it the fact that you know one of these genius 17 year olds is about to crack your BS bootloader and free us all, so you're trying to lock it down harder? lots of hate for your crap UI and bloatware, Moto. lots. </rant>

I believe the hold up is the fixes they are trying to roll into the froyo update. Yes the droid 2 is running the same ui but it is still a different phone and had its own issues right now. The x is their flagship and I'm sure they wanna fix all they can with this update. What good is froyo if they don't fix any bugs and introduce new ones in the process?

I spoke with VZWSupport on the phone a few days ago and asked if they had a date for release of 2.2, and they said they were already releasing it in some 'locations'; this sounds like something they were all trained to say. Doesn't mean it's not true (or true).

To me it sounds like there confusing it with there droid push, because its still being pushed. lol

Not to mention if it was going out to 2000 to 3000 people a day there would a ton more youtube and front page news reports on it by now.
