For what it is worth

Seems to fit the rumors but again anything you read about froyo and droid x seem that way nowadays.

Took this off another site.

Droid X is the flagship device of Verizon and it is surprising to see that the device has not received the Froyo update so far. HTC Droid Incredible received the update two weeks ago. Notably, the Droid Incredible also received the update after Verizon jumped several dates.

In Droid X?s case also Verizon has failed to release it on time. The carrier had announced to update the Droid X in early September but the carrier failed to keep its words.

Earlier the update was stopped by Verizon due to some issues with battery life and Market apps were not showing up. This problem was seen with nexus as well. The Droid X runs Android 2.1 and the phone is doing good business. The original Droid, which was released last year in November, has also received Froyo update.

This means that only Droid X is yet to receive the update. The Droid X is seen by many as a strong competitor for Apple?s hugely popular smartphone- the iPhone. There are reports claiming that Droid X will receive the Android 2.2 Froyo update by Thursday September 23

Funny how it's always just a few days away, somewhat like a mirage... always just out of reach but oh-so-alluring.

I wouldn't take anything from that. the reports that article talks about are most likely other sites with forum rumors.

You know, I think I would be happier waiting for the OTA if they would not make rooting and loading the leaked 2.2 a warranty killer...

no doubt

hate to say it but it looks like htc has there crap togethe

right off the Motorola website

rDROID X - Android Version Upgrade
DROID X will ship with Android 2.1 and consumers can expect to receive an upgrade to Android 2.2 in late summer via an over-the-air upgrade. We work closely with Google and our carrier partners...

I'm kind of regretting going with a Motorola device over an HTC device, especially because I was under the assumption that Moto was better at releasing timely updates than HTC. Obviously that is no longer the case.

At the moment, my 2.1 X does everything I could ask a phone to do (minus Flash, which is not a high priority for me). While I'm patient for the official version, I also hate seeing the device get this kind if needless bad press over this OTA. Just release the update already...

Then you obviously never had an HTC Incredible. It was really efficient on getting its update to 2.2.....

Yes and HTC froyo is bugged I think... Is it the phone manufacturer or developers? I would rather get a well developed froyo then one that’s going to mess up my gmail etc.

so 997 people bought the X because of a 2.2 update?

if all they wanted was 2.2 why wouldnt they have waited less than a month and purchase the droid 2, which everyone knew was coming with 2.2?

thats ridiculous.

I was in a Verizon store in CT over the weekend and I asked about it and they said that the "Fascinate" roll-out was such a mess the Droid X roll-out has been delayed until Oct. Don't flame the messenger.. just reporting on what I heard.

October wouldn't shock anyone at all at this point. Heck, late October wouldn't shock anyone.

The delays and lack of information were just as bad with the Incredible, and remember it (the Incredible) was on store shelves long before the Droid X. And the EVO Froyo roll-out was rushed and full of bugs. I'm still recovering from the gigantic issues sticky from that roll-out. If the X isn't being pushed out, then they are likely still working to make it better, which is in everyone's best interest.

Amen.

If I could find that leaked kernel update I would be so there right now. The lack of an "official update path", isn't much of a disincentive when the user community is providing better and more consistent support than the manufacturer or carrier. "Late Summer," in Australia maybe...or Pluto.
