Froyo OTA: First Impressions

Anyone notice that if the text app is open to a person your talking to and they sen you a text, no sound is played? When im texting someone back and forth i dont shut down the app, then I look at it and I got 2 or 3 and theyre waiting for me to respond even thou my phone didnt make a sound. I have to back out or go away from the app to make it beep. Just me??

Same here.

I've noticed that the volume control on the phone no longer functions unless you hit the power button and unlock the phone. In 2.1 I could just hit the volume buttons while the phone was in my pocket.

Uh-oh, that would suck.

I miss the HTC_IME_hi keyboard I've been using. Doesn't work with 2.2.

Saw that there is a newer version on XDA, but it doesn't seem to want to load. Don't have swype working either thought I don't use that much.

**EDIT** This works http://www.gimpsta.com/themer/

Is there something you have to do to activate flash. I have tried a couple of sites and the videos dont work. Under my manage applications "all" tab it shows "Adobe flash player 10.1 52kb. If I tap that. all the buttons are grayed out.

I manually installed this morning. Everything is fine but does anyone else think the flash still isnt what its cracked up to be??? for example, gametrailers.com will load the videos but it is so choppy even on SD setting that it is unwatchable. Maybe this has more to do with 3G but if streaming videos is for Wifi only it kinda defeats the point of doing it on your phone.

I wish they would buffer more info, it seems like it tries to buffer what is happening right now and then play it realtime.:(

Out of curiosity, was I the only one who lost the option to store calendar events locally (on the "Phone" calendar)?

I really liked that ... There are some things I don't want Google to store in the cloud. Plus, it deleted every local event I had stored before the update. That was annoying. D:

my OTA update went well, rebooted quickly and i got to play with it within 15 minutes. some hours later, i realized that i couldnt open Handcent to check a text message. So that was force closed. I open stock Messages and it hung too. wtf. then i got a phone call i didnt want to answer (from dad) and i swiped up to ignore it, and the screen wasnt even responsive. i had to let it ring out. even on the way home from work, to dial out, i had to tap their name and wait like 30 seconds before it started to intiate dialing.

i rebooted, opened Handcent, another crash. Same with Messages. They sync arrows in the top bar were on constantly, which leads me to believe that it's parsing through the WAY too many texts I have on this phone and downloading MMS? Or maybe it's just the sheer number of messages. Either way, the first thing i want to try to do is clear our my text messages.

does anyone know how to do this?

note that when i dont start up Handcent or Messages, it doesn't hang and act all sluggish and unusable. it's pretty snappy then, when using the phone and other apps. it's got to be my saved message size. or maybe it's handcent.

Guys even though this is the OTA the flash version is still beta. The full version of flash is done and I have no idea why they didn't include it in this update. The only phone running it is the Nexus One (Google's baby lol). However the great news is that you can download it and put it on your DINC as I did. It will simply upgrade your current Adobe Flash. If you try to uninstall it will only let you uninstall the update not the beta default that was put on by the OTA Download it from your phone at this link. MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service. Again this is the FINAL OFFICIAL FLASH FOR ANDROID !!version 10.1.92.8 12.52 MB. Let me know how you guys make out.

Got my OTA update this morning, right around the same time the update was posted on the site. Oh well.

Here is what I've noticed so far:

I had to restart the phone to get 3G coverage back.

The phone was just reporting my 16 Gb sdcard as either being full or not existing, depending on who you asked. After plugging into my computer and ejecting, it's behaving normally.

Flash over the 3G connection is pretty hilarious. I tried to watch an episode of The Daily Show. You get normal video and incredibly slow audio.

Just out of curiosity, it's ok to delete the update.zip file right? You dont need to leave the 93mb on your sd card?
