Froyo OTA: First Impressions

Not sure about update all, I don't think I would ever use that, but you can mark individual apps to automatically update.

HELP:New Froyo GOOD! New Pattern LOCK BAD!!!

Received Froyo today via OTA update. After the updated completed Pattern Lock secured my phone. Problem: I do not use Patter Lock and can not access the phone. Prior to the update, I was using Password security. Can someone please help me?

OTA Update

How about the ability to have a Hot spot now (the big push for MotoDroids) and also finally a Incredible Flashlight! Just did the update so haven't got to mess around too much just saw those few items and got excited. Too bad VZW is making you pay more for the hotspot "service"...LAME!

Its nice to have 2.2 out for the incredible. Now if I could only get it in at my store. We haven't had it in stock since june.

Froyo & Exchange

so I have been a long time lurker-I decided today to become impatient and downloaded the OTA update manually. Installed like a charm.

My take on Froyo-

Full disclosure-my main reason to switch to Android was because I needed better intergration with work email, so most of what I was looking forward to was Exchange/Corporate based

1. Love the ability to search the Global Address List-this is the biggest feature I wanted
2. Love the 802.11n
3. Revamped keyboard is great
4. Love the new security(numerical login and full passwords)
5. Flash is awesome
6. The New News/RSS reader app could be cool

Dislikes
1. For some reason, I thought that we were gaining exchange task sync-its not a big deal at all-I just thought we were getting it.
2. Like a few others, the DROOOOOOID at startup is really annoying.

Hey..

Are we still limited to one exchange server account?

Thanks.

Initial impressions are, glad to have it, but I think it was a bit over hyped. Things I had wished were fixed:

-Support for Multiple Exchange Accounts
-MMS Pictures received viewable without slide show
-More than 4 web page tabs allowed at a time
-Need to bump charge
-No battery life improvement
-Battery usage stats (uptime vs awake time) do not reset when you unplug your device, or no way to reset them without shutting down your device
-Mail UI still cumbersome when delegating multiple emails
-Car dock does not rotate to landscape

I realize many of these annoyances are more from the HTC side since they mostly relate to sense. I was just hopeful that HTC would have addressed them.

I think the best thing about this update was enabling Wireless N.

i used the OTA posted on the site yesterday. Everything went smoothly but now the twitter app refuses to log in and if i pause the music player and do something else when I come back the player loses track of where it was and restarts the song. Not sure if this is happening for anyone else but it is really irritating

I manually did the update yesterday pm. I noticed a little lag yesterday pm and did a simple power cycle and used the phone heavily last night. I didn't notice any lag problems after that. As far as the battery life, it seemed to me that the batter held up noticeably better with 2.2 than with 2.1. Nothing scientific however. Today will be a better barometer on battery life after a full day of use.

Once you download it just open it up and it will install just like a market app. No recovery boot or sd card or update.zip required.

Thank you. I downloaded again directly from the phone. When I tried to open the file, I got an error message - something about a bad parse.

I've been pretty pleased with the update.

I was unable to use the OTA due to changes that I had made (and didn't save) to my configuration which prevented the update from running. Doing things differently this time round.

S-OFF made getting back root a breeze once I figured out what to do.

Browser lag was easily understood as being all the extra flash on pages... Changed Plugin to On Demand and that went away.

Never cared much about 720p.. just don't do videos on my phone and if I did, still would not care. I rarely use the camera (set to 1mb instead of 8mb).

Since I had to clear my data to use the Froyo RUU, I kinda of started off clean, but did use my Titanium backup to restore a number of apps and their data that I could not easily remember or locate after I got back up in running.

Moved (instead of deleted) a number of bloatware apps, Amazon MP3, CityID, Skype, FM and some others to a oldapp directory on the phone to rid myself of them auto starting. Very annoying.. Never use Peep.

and Yes, I do you an app killer, but only for manually killing apps. Most are ignored, but somethings like Camera, Barcode I want off as they continue to use power when they are running.

Battery appears to be better than before, and will most likely get even better as I stop playing around with the phone so much. Like any new toy, I am using it a lot more than I normally do as I check on stuff, configure and explore.

As of now, I pretty much have everything I had before up and working including Swype, HTC-IME keyboards, the layout like I like it, contacts, Touchdown etc... and finally sounds. Did a new Nandroid backup and I should be doing regular Titanium backups starting this weekend again.

Overall, I quite pleased with the update.

A-OK with Manuel update!!

Well I could not wait for the Verizon OTA update and I manually dowloaded the update from the forums here. I had no problems other than all of my ringtones went crazy and any specialized ringtone I had set up for a specific contact or alarm all got switched around. BUT.. All I had to do was just reassign them again and all is working great!! LOVE FROYO 2.2!!!

Froyo on the east coast!

Good morning android followers. Just letting everyone know that I received the update first thing this morning about 8:30 EST. I live in NC. After the update ran I saw the new droid boot screen and then the phone sat idle with the glaring red eye. Not sure what the deal was but I shut the phone down and after booting up again everything seems to be ok. Glad I got it today because if not I was going for the manual "do it yourself" route. Happy Wednesday everyone!

One thing I have noticed, and perhaps others will have seen the same thing...

The screen seems to be dimmer on Auto Adjust for brightness. Not a big deal, but I was wondering if others are seeing the same thing.

/conspiracy Or.... did the update secretly change my screen from AMOLED to SLCD? /conspiracy

I noticed it too. I was hoping it would help with battery life, but I think that may have actually decreased since the update. :(

despite the remarks about having problems with 2.2, i rolled he dice and accepted the install last night. nothing but good so far.
