Froyo OTA: First Impressions

When I do Chrome to phone of a web site it plays my ring on my phone. how do i turn that off so it is silent when i sent stuff to my phone???

Am I the only only one who is losing battery at 25% an hour? Went to lunch at 33% after charging for an hour and came back from lunch at 8% after normal use on break. Im ready to throw it away. Theres no way I can go without having an extra 2 batteries on me if I cant have it plugged in.

Google Maps: "My Location" sent me to London (from socal US) when GPS was turned off. I don't expect Tower triangulation to be very accurate but that's ridiculous!

Also I like my (relative) location anonymity, so when using gMaps navigation why does v2.2 appear to require turning on the 'Stand alone location services' in location settings? I don't recall that being required before (though I could just be forgetting).

Bloatware: Is unacceptable  May need to root.

What happened to auto rotate? Is anyone else having a problem?
-Raymi
It's working fine for me, but I don't think they implemented for every app. At least Browser and Mail rotate fine to either side. But the Music app doesn't rotate at all. I'm guess that for the apps in the market it will be similar: developers need to update their apps to take advantage of this "feature". I would have expected all "stock" apps to rotate, not just some.

Music and Navigation

Hello all,

Does anyone have problems with music and navigation apps running at the same time? Previously it used to work fine. After the update, music pauses for the voice guidance and never starts playing again. I need to manually start the song again. Did anyone see this issue?

Froyo so far.

My overall impressions:

I updated from update.zip. No problems, installed first time.

* I like the opening animation. Shame they didn't include it as a live wallpaper. Is there some way I can replay it on demand without having to restart the phone?

* 720p is nice but I still find holding a phone to take a movie unnatural, prefer the feel of my old Sony Handycam still. Maybe I'll get used to it with HD.

* Love the speed, most everything is faster, especially the browser.

* SenseUI, however, seems laggier and seems to fall over more easily. It also seems noticeably dated. I think I'm finally moving to LauncherPro full time. Up until now, I've liked Sense marginably better but LauncherPro with its landscape mode and new widgets may just have converted me. Combining LauncherPro with Beautiful Widgets makes me miss Sense even less.

* I love the Voice Search but it does need more work, seems to have a lot of trouble parsing "to" for email and text. I use Voice Search for "Listen to" and VLingo for everything else. Voice Search "Listen To" and Pandora are a killer combination, as is VLingo and "Social Update". Love showing these to my iPhone friends.

* I like the wifi hotspot and may even spring for it. I can justify it since my work reimburses my phone tab every month and I do a lot of travel. Another fun item to use around iPhone/iPad folks, especially when they're lacking an AT&T signal and not near free wifi.

* Like the new rotations, not having to worry about clockwise or counterclockwise. It's a big win for the Incredible and its awkwardly placed USB port. Maybe we can get a dock now?

* Like chrome-to-phone, even though it seems to be a solution in search of a problem.

* Love the new "update all" and "always update". About friggin' time.

* Flash is nice. Works well from what I could see but I didn't really find anything that looked any different than before.

* Stability - I have to say, since installing Froyo, I haven't had a single "mystery reboot". For that I am very grateful. It seemed that with 2.1, I could count on the phone rebooting at least once every day.

* Battery - well I have the collosal Seidio 3500 battery which lasts the day no matter what I do so I haven't seen enough of a difference. Maybe I'll try swapping my original battery back in for a day to see.

* One elephant in the room: VPN. My workplace uses a variant of CISCO ipsec vpn. The one mentioned here. Lack of support for this is a huge barrier for acceptance in the enterprise. I can tell you that internally, my company so far has blessed Blackberry and iPhone for work use. They want to bless Android but are stopped dead in their tracks because of this. Does anyone know if this is working yet in Froyo or slated for Gingerbread? Is there hope?

Anyway, I'm a happy Froyo user, not looking back. Happy to have a more Incredible phone.

Battery drain with Froyo

Just posting date for others to compare to...........

Battery Data
5h41m since unplugged
Cell Standby 32%
Phone Idle 29%
Android System 25%
Display 8%
Dolphin Browser 6%

Up time 15:18
Awake time 3:38

Battery @ 48%

So lost more than half battery in 5h 41mins NOT good with light use.

Also no improvement since diabling, new, stocks, and weather apps.

i finally got my ota update. it's true that it only comes when you don't expect it. the only morning i didn't go to my phone hoping the update was there was the time it did actually show up. lol

one thing i didn't like though is the startup. will it take that long from now on? it was ridiculous. i thought something went wrong.

maybe that's because of all the new junk software they added? i noticed there were so many apps that started that i couldn't stop nor uninstall. i'm sure that has something to do with it. wish there was a way to remove them.

Factory reset!!!!!

Ok couldn't take it and did factory reset from the bootloader screen. I don't know what the difference is between "Factory reset" and "Clear Data"? Anyone care to share?

Either way I chose Factory reset. It still booted with 2.2 and I had to reactivate. Setting up apps one by one with Appbrain. Will stay updated. It already seems faster, but that's implied being so fresh.

It still booted with all the garbage from Verizon!

Hmmm....when I set it on auto rotate it only displays in landscape in mail and browser.
I wonder what I'm missing ?

2.2 bloatware - how to remove?

How do I remove the bloatware (Skype, VSW manager, etc.) from my Incredible?

If not remove, how do I set the phone so that they are not always running by default?

Can someone share the way to get rid of this cr*p?
This bloatware has now reached the abusive level...

I'm pretty sure you could root and get rid of the bloat but if rooting is not your style, LauncherPro can do a good job hiding it. Preferences->General Settings->Hidden Apps

As for the underhanded Verizon USB media stuff, you can prevent that in one of two ways

Disable from your phone or disable autoplay from your computer.
