Froyo RUU News, Reviews, Findings, Q&A.

if you run the exe before you plug in your phone, the program tells you when to connect the phone. at that point, you shouldnt have to pick what option, disk drive or whatever, it should just do the biz on its own from there.

I got it to connect the first time - it went to the first screen started the update process and then told me it could not connect to the phone. My phone said HTC on it until I removed the USB cable, then I got a white screen with some text and dancing android's on the bottom and I thought I had bricked my phone - a battery pull brought it back, but now the updated will not connect. I have tried disk drive and HTC sync. Any thoughts? Kinda reminds me of the old Storm 1 ROM days :)

I'm currently on a stock DInc. My end goal is to be on a rooted DInc with an official Froyo OS. The only thing I care about (by gaining root access) is the WiFi hotspot capability. If this is the end goal, should I do the OTA--presumably released tomorrow--and then root (ie, will the unrevoked tool work on a Froyo device, or is it just for Eclair)? Or, is it better to run the unrevoked forever tool prior to the OTA update? Thanks!

Still not working. I have read through the post and some people have had this problem so i did what was recommended but still unable to get this update.

ROM UTILITY UNABLE TO CONNECT TO PHONE.
1)CHECK THAT PHONE IS CONNECTED TO USB
2)CHECK THAT USB IS CONNECTED TO COMPUTER

I have HTC Sync installed since I had the phone in June.
Connected usb to two different ports.
Turned off sleep and hibernation on my PC

The only thing that it could possibly be is that when i plug in my phone the auto play box opens up but I just "X" it out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

same thing happened to me. I **** my pants when I saw that white screen but got the phone back with a battery pull.

I'm having the same exact problem. WTF!

No love for the newbies I guess. I know I should wait for tomorrow but I am an impatient human who needs it now.
HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!

Is there a common item amongst all of us who are having the issue? I am running Win 7 Ultimate.

I also am unable to install the update. I have installed HTC sync from the version included on the phone. I was able to sync the phone with it as well. I am using windows 7 and keep getting usb connection errors after trying a few different times to install. I fear this maybe a problem with installing under windows 7. All steps have been followed and double checked so I don't think its a user issue. Any thoughts????

I am also using window 7 but I don't think that is the problem. To many people here have downloaded it and some of them have to have windows 7. There has to be something on the phone or most likely on the computer that isn't set right for this update. We will just have to wait until someone more knowledgeable comes up with an answer.

OMG how funny, the baseband radio numbers, kernel numbers etc ALL match the leaked stuff that rooters have been running for a month....sheesh. Glad I went ahead and did it now for sure! Congrats all you finally are getting Froyo and now we can change the subject to Gingerbread!

Hey Qazme

how about some love for those who cant get this downloaded and tell us where we are going wrong.

Ultimate 7, Error 170 message too. Reinstalled HTC sync. White screen scared the crap out of me too. Help.

I am noticing if I am connected to the HTC sync software and start the RUU update the HTC Sync software disconnects. Maybe this is showing a possible issue??? Anyone update this under windows 7?
