Froyo RUU News, Reviews, Findings, Q&A.

First post,

I have windows 7

Did not work....

Installed on windows vista....worked flawlessly and now i have froyo on my incredible

There is definately something incompatible with Windows 7

I got it to connect the first time - it went to the first screen started the update process and then told me it could not connect to the phone. My phone said HTC on it until I removed the USB cable, then I got a white screen with some text and dancing android's on the bottom and I thought I had bricked my phone - a battery pull brought it back, but now the updated will not connect. I have tried disk drive and HTC sync. Any thoughts? Kinda reminds me of the old Storm 1 ROM days :)

Mine did the same thing so I rebooted my pc...which I did NOT do after I reinstalled htc sync...(my bad) then I just tried it again and it worked.

Which htc syc do you have. I went to htc website and there is no listing for the incredible.

I found an RUUlog folder under the C: drive. Could someone else who had install errors look at it and sort out what it means.

I am running win7 ultimate also. I'm going to try this in virtual machine mode. Will let you know.

didn't work. also tried it on another computer with xp. No go. :(

Update: I messed up. Didn't have Sync on the xp computer. Installed it and it worked. Wondering if running the exe file in compatibility mode on win7 might help.

From a VZW director friend of mine concerning Froyo:

Finally! Here is what I rcvd today. "Limited/controlled rollout will commence on 8/27 through 9/2 - with full OTA deployment by 09/03. Push times are 11:59 PM."

I guess you saved me the time of going and trying it on my XP machine. I suppose I will have to wait for the OTA roll-out - Ho Hum.

***UPDATE***

After reading the next post I did try my XP machine and...
SUCCESS!

After an hour of trying on my 7 ultimate machine I broke out an ancient xp laptop. Worked first time after I installed HTC Sync. Restoring My Backup now. :)

Has to be an issue witha windows 7 setting.

unable to connect to ruu

I've seen other people having this problem and i cant find a solution. every time i try to run the ruu i keep getting an error saying cannot connect to phone. i think its error 107. i was previously rooted and on 2.5.2. i ran s-off and downgraded back to stock. im running windows 7 x64. any help would be appreciated

Thanks jas o -

After reading your post I too tried my old XP machine and it WORKED! Must be Win 7!

Nice new start-up animation - I'll post a vid if I can in a bit.

I did do S-off...

Anyone who plans on eventually rooting after this better S-off their phones BEFORE you do this or you may not be able to do anything with it for awhile! Also it's updating your radio, so without S-off you can not go back to 2.1 or possibly any offical 2.2 updates. Be leary of this until some devs get their hands on it and announce a yeah or nah to it!

I have s-off but now the big question...how will I re-root this sucker with the new leaked one on...the old "easy root" will no longer work ;)

Okay everyone. I figured it out. It definitely is Win7. I was using win7 ultimate x64. The drivers with this RUU are not compatible. After first trying to update on a second computer running XP I had the error. after realizing I didn't have HTC sync on that one I installed it and retried the RUU. It worked. It definitely has to do with Win7 and HTC Sync.

Hi,
I know if you update it from this download it will eras all the data. If I wait till the official ota update from verizon will it do the same thing and erase everything?

It might be specific to 64Bit OS's, since there seem to be some with success on Win 7 and some who have failed with XP (64 Bit?).
