Froyo RUU News, Reviews, Findings, Q&A.

WHen I plugged it in with the newest build leak, which may or may not be pushed OTA, it installed some software onto my computer....I have a feeling its Verizon's spin on HTC Sync.

I've modified the title from Official Froyo OTA to Froyo RUU. In my book, nothing is official until a) it's announced and b) it's being pushed out by the carrier (OTA). We've been burned more that once by thinking that a leaked copy was somehow final. The EVO debacle was a perfect example of that. 2 days prior to the push, HTC posted what was supposedly the official build, only to find out several hours later that it wasn't. EVO owners were left for weeks not being able to get the official OTA update, and were having all sorts of problems.

That said, I'm ecstatic that we a Verizon software tech visiting and sharing in our forums. So as long as they are being friendly in this forum, please show them some respect in return. A little thread title edit aside, he shared some excellent information with us.

Kind of just "hides" them ala blackberry?

No, I believe you can delete them if you really want. However, most of the write ups I've seen cautions that if you delete an app, you might never be able to find it again, so better to move them to a disabled folder. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks to the OP for the info and Insight. 2.2 change?

1 When phone rings used to be able to press "power button" to silence ring. Since updateing this does work. Is there a setting for this that I can get it back or is that option now gone?

2 Any feed back on battery usage? Yesterday seemed to burn through the battery, but seems about normal now.

USB errors...

Also getting usb errors on the RUU install when it tries to verify the information on my android phone, ends up saying phone not connected and makes me exit. The update process started initially one time but then windows asked me to restart to apply updates.

Win7 32B
HTC sync installed

any suggestions?

WinXP or Vista. Or wait for the OTA (which won't wipe your phone, anyway).

Kinda want to wipe my phone for a fresh start. And no access to a vista or xp machine, both of mine are 7 machines. Some people do seem to have got it to work on 7 in this thread I believe?

If there is a magical incantation to get Win7 to play nice with third party software that is trying to communicate with a USB device, I do not know it. I've got two Win7 boxes and one that is still on Vista; between this RUU, three LeapPad devices, my camera, and a Canon multifunction print/scan/copier, neither of the Win7 boxes allows the desktop software to program the USB device, but the Vista box works first time, every time. It's something about devices with their own environment -- not talking about just thumbdrives, webcams, and other "dumb" peripherals. Of course, it's also hit and miss -- my old BB worked just fine with BB Desktop, as does another multifunction printer and my other camera.

I NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE!

I installed this 2.2 update and I its acking a little funny my phone seems to be slower a tad. I just wanna go back to 2.1 . I did a factory reset on the phone and it came back to 2.2, How do I get it back to 2.1??????:(

Please help

Where can I get HTC Sync? I tried getting it off the HTC site but the Incredible isn't even listed. Possibly because of the Froyo updates.

It should be on your phone memory when you plug your Dinc into your PC. There is an installer .exe located not on the SD card but in the internal phone memory. It will show up is Drive G: H: etc...
