fyi - VM raising rates?...:/

Everybody scream bloody murder! It's still the cheapest plan around and we'll all get grandfathered in. I don't see a problem unless they make everyone change.

Where is the this grandfather theory coming from, there is no contract the can change the plans as the want, and it will apply to everyone and even if they do it is still a great deal with the 45 dollar plan.

Because almost every time VM changes a plan, that's what they do. Read LeslieAnn's last post.

Unless any of this does not come from Sprint or VM you have to speculate the source,in the TOS it says they can change any of their plans anytime they feel needed, what they did in the past does not mean it will continue in the future.

They've never done it before, doesn't mean they'll start now either.

Also, I have no idea what the first part of that sentence means.

They have never had this many users before, but if you want to believe everything you read on the internet so be it,but i will always question the source.

outrageous! if i were you, i would get rid of my phone right now!

(now maybe i can get me some of dat 3g action *evil laugh*).

I was grandfathered in on one of their earlier rate switches. It was one of their lower plans, I don't remember all the details exactly. It's been awhile. I've been a customer of VM since for like... 7 or so years haha.

No guarantee this'll be the same case. Although I really hope that we'll all get grandfathered in, that $10 doesn't seem like much... but that's like another $120 a year, pretty much a new optimus V haha.

Thanks for clearly saying no guarantees, most rumors,or phone hacks never clearly state these statements, there are way to many no it all's on forums these days who throw things around without solid proof, or BS for no apparent reason,i am on the 40 plan so 5 more is not that bad,way to many data hogs to keep the prices where they are.

There's emails from VM stating we'll get grandfathered however when they introduce 4G they will make you switch plans in order to upgrade, that's Sprints history...

4g prepaid? I doubt it.

And you also have to consider VM was bought out by Sprint about 2 years ago, so any past history of grandfathering rate changes is pretty much irrelevant. VM's "beyond talk" plans were introduced at their current rates when Sprint took over.

From wikipedia-
"On July 28, 2009, Sprint agreed to pay $483 million to purchase Virgin Mobile USA. The Federal Trade Commission later gave the go-ahead on the acquisition.[18] Virgin Mobile USA was originally conceived as a joint venture between Virgin Group and Sprint, and uses Sprint's cellular bandwidth in the United States. Sprint retained the Virgin Mobile name after the deal closed."

What emails from VM? I haven't gotten any.

This is a email reply I received from VM after I complained about the price changes.

Hello Michael,

Thanks for contacting Virgin Mobile Customer Care.

Like all major carriers, we?ve seen data usage in particular increase significantly over the past few months and we are taking steps to ensure customers continue to enjoy unlimited data while using Virgin Mobile, without overages or a contract.

Smartphone penetration within the pre and post paid markets has grown exponentially with mobile data traffic increasing to match. Virgin Mobile is committed to providing its customers a great wireless experience now and in the future. As we are changing our plans we are also furthering our commitment to deliver top of the line smartphones to our customers without a contract.

Rather than imposing limits and overage charges on data plans for wireless phones Virgin Mobile has changed the pricing structure of our plans so all smartphones will pay the same.

As of July 20, 2011, new Virgin Mobile customers will be activated on the new plans while existing Beyond Talk customers will be able to stay on their current plans. Since you and your wife are already enrolled in this plan your monthly fee will not change unless you decide to change plans.

Hope this helps, If you need additional assistance, feel free to let us know how we can assist further or contact us at 1-888-322-1122 (or *VM from your handset). You can reach us Monday throughSunday from 4am-9pm PST.

Thanks,

There are already plenty of other companies that offer 4G prepaid and also statement from Sprint saying that 4G will be here by the end of the year for VM. Beyond Talk plans started last year, well after Sprint purchased them.

That letter rings true to what I expected. If you look at the VM USA page on Facebook, there's also quite a few questions from people about the price change, and VM reps are answering back that people will be able to keep their current plans, and that the rate hike will only apply to new customers, or to old customers only if they change their plan at some point.

4g prepaid? I doubt it.
They can;t leave us on 3g forever, besides, they already sent out surveys months ago to gauge customer interest.

It's coming, it;s only a matter of when and how much.
I want to see speeds and I want to see if we only get "what's left" before I would consider it.

4g speeds are of flakey and even the gov. is stepping in to sort it out, it's so bad.
The reason is that 4g is a marketing term, not a true standard. The carriers started using it before it was standardized and made a mess of it.

I have used $25 bt plan for past 3 months, I wonder if I can keep my rate for the life of my phone.
what if I will need more minutes, n switch to 1200 minutes plan next month, will I pay $40 or 45?
anyone ?

so if i activate my phone tomorrow will i still be able to stay on the older plan??? 35$ does kind of break it for me but eh id rather pay 25..

if VM usa claims its cheap unlimited data plans costing them to lose money, they can just put a 2gb data cap to $25 plan subscribers and keep its same price. I am moderate data user, I never use more than 2gb a month. If they keep offer every one unlimited data usage, some tether ppl will abuse it and use 10gb a month.

if they are gonna raise from 25 to 35 bucks, they'd better give more voice minutes. As voice minutes are cheap these days.

Boost mobile unlimited plan will look more attractive if VM indeed raises its price this month.
