G6 Battery Life

Re: Battery Life

You did .. but then you said it was odd so you contradicted yourself :P. It definitely is normal if the usage is very strenuous on the device.
Haha True, but when people say they always get 3 hours, no matter what they do to try to change it.. Do people really always watch HD videos on high brightness ALL the time on their device?.. I know when I play some games it'll drain, but then I'll stop 30 minutes to an hour later, and the usage evens put and I still get over 3 hours of SOT. It wasn't a contradiction, it just wasn't a fully explained statement.

Something that people tend to leave out is their network strength, screen brightness like both you and I mentioned and activity..

I too care about my idle time more than my up time.. For instance..

Well no people don't do it all the time -- but that goes with something you just said (" it just wasn't a fully explained statement.")

Most people will talk about the issue they're having and that is it -- not the times they had where it was all working like it should. For idle yes 3 hours SoT could be normal depending how long the device in total has been on. If it is a short while then yes alarm bells would go off and I would be checking app usage and other factors. If it is 3 hours SoT but 48 hours of being on battery .. well .. that is more reasonable.

That is why I have always hated the huge focus on SoT. I could go get 10+ hours SoT just to show I got it on my device but it wouldn't be true usage. The number isn't realistic to how the phone was actually used.

Agreed..

Re: Battery Life

I do not care about SOT myself, it's not really the issue with me since I'm not on my phone for hours during a day, but standby drain always is. I miss root mainly for the ability to tame wakelocks and other junk processes.

Android wear is a big battery killer due to lots of bluetooth wakelocks, so I've been leaving bluetooth off. After disabling all the unnecessary bloatware I could, (quickmemo doesn't seem to be a problem on mine) I usually go to bed with around 40% left. This is nice after my old phone with its worn-out battery that I was always had to charge during the day if I did not want low battery warnings in the evenings.

I was seeing significant wakelock times (an hour or more in a day) from com.carrieriq.iqagent during the first few days of having the phone. Despite being unable to fully get rid of it, it's now only a few minutes. Not sure what changed there.

I'm also looking into brevent as a way to keep unnecessary junk from running and wasting battery.

Have you tried Forcedoze or Greenify? That might help your standby time.

This was this morning just browsing the net, using Twitter Facebook and answering work emails.. Also, driving with navigation.

But yeah

Re: Battery Life

Screen brightness is a big factor and unfortunately the stock auto brightness seems to ramp up the brightness unnecessarily.

I did try to manually adjust my brightness as and when I needed to but I just couldn't be bothered with that. I eventually settled with LUX and set up my own auto brightness values. For me this made a huge difference to screen battery consumption, so if you use auto brightness I highly recommend trying LUX.

Re: Battery Life

If you have just gotten your G6, it will indeed take a few cycles for your battery to perform at equilibrium. That being said, every individual phone has its own unique battery; so that is a variable to keep in mind too. My G3's battery, for example, was most likely corrupt or just wonky, whereas other users got better battery life.

Yes this is true. Batteries also have acceptable manufacturing tolerances. If you look on the sticker of the G6 battery it says, typical 3300mah and min 3230mah. So im guessing some may be closer to the 3330mah and some will be closer to the 3230mah, not a huge difference but a difference none the less.

I may be talking complete rubbish but that's how I interpreted that information.

I think you are correct. I thought I read somewhere else that phones have "tolerances" or "ranges," so to speak.

Re: Battery Life

Screenshot_2017-07-12-20-07-54.jpg I upgraded from the g5 to G6 and have had significant increase in battery life. For my usage as a restaurant manager this phone works great from the freezer to the grill line. I can feel confident that I will make it through a 12 hour day.. my g5, I needed the extra battery

10 Hours of SOT!!!

Hahaha. Kind of click bait, but screen on time isn't everything, depends on usage as everyone should already know.

GPS - high
Bluetooth connected to fitness tracker
WiFi on
Have (2) Instagram, flipagram, (5) twitter, Facebook, Facebook mentions, Facebook lite.. (3) Gmail . And blah blah blah..

19 hours up, 10 hours screen.

But that's really only numbers.. No HD video.. A few minutes of YouTube, lots of emails.. Some phone calls, some Apple Music, some Allo and WhatsApp..

Greenify

Screen set to 15 minute on.

Brightness is Lux Auto.

But I really just did it today to see if I can.. Just to do it..

Haha, that's what I get after 2 full charges if I'm lucky!

Re: 10 Hours of SOT!!!

Yeesh. Dump Facebook and you might squeeze two days of SoT and a week uptime with your configuration. j/k :D

Haha I would so do it but Facebook marketplace is only available on the actual Facebook app and I hate that app. Haha.

Use a second device just for that, and post the G6's SoT after it's been running free and clear lol

My old Z10 is my Facebook phone while it still breathes. :P

I was using my tablet but my wife has it with her out of town.. Haha I guess I could uninstall it. :-p

Re: 10 Hours of SOT!!!

I was just thinking how the G6 battery life has been incredible. I have an unlocked Sprint phone, debloated with LG package disabler. WiFi and BT on all the time, GPS high accuracy, Google Now services all on. I get 2-2.5 hours SOT at he end of the day and still have 70% battery left. Incredible.

Wow! That is amazing! How long have you had the phone?
