I'm not a huge fan of benchmark scores and how people relate them to a phone being superior, but it is interesting to see some of the results for the Galaxy Nexus given how much negative press it has gotten about the TI OMAP/SGX540 choice.

Now I'd compare these scores to the Galaxy S2, but that phone will always have a special place with me so I'd rather compare it to everyone's favorite: iPhone 4S.

Google v8 Tests (higher score is better):

iPhone 4S: 368
Galaxy Nexus: 1387

Sunspider 9.1 Tests (lower score is better):

iPhone 4S: 2260ms
Galaxy Nexus: 1983ms

Like I said above, I don't put a lot of stock on these benchmark tests. but it is interesting to see just how well the new browser is performing. Perhaps this will change a few minds on just how fast the Galaxy Nexus can be, even if it's not the Exynos 4212 (if it were compatible with LTE).

Do you have a link for the results you posted? Also, both phones perform so well that you probably wouldn't notice the performance difference unless the phones were next to each other.

I have a Galaxy S II on AT&T. It performs great. From what I've read the Galaxy Nexus outperforms it in real world use. That should be expected. We've seen what happens when an OS is coded for the hardware it runs on (iOS). Now we'll finally get to see how Android is supposed to perform. :)

I like the idea of the GN winning here...

but I also agree with you that, benchmarks aren't everything. Real world use is where it's at. ICS should allow the HW to perform much better. I'm still curious to know if there are any battery improving features in ICS. I haven't heard anyone talk about the battery life of this device.

These two benchmarks are both browser benchmarks. They really don't showcase the respective SoC's power as much as the optimization in the respective browsers. The only part of the SoC that is really being tested is the CPU and both the A5 and 4460 have nearly identical CPUs (dual core cortex-A9) with the 4460 having a higher clock. Any difference in the sunspider bench could be explained by the clock difference. This means that the browsers are very competitive with each other. But IMO the nexus browser is so much better because its pretty much a desktop browser :p

Anyways, look at some graphics benches and you'll be sad. Frankly though I don't need to have games run at 100fps, 30fps is good enough to be smooth.

You're 100% right on that, but I posted them to show that the speed of this phone isn't lacking one bit. Combine those results with the speed of Verizon 4G LTE and you've got something Apple just can't compete with.
