Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on November 21st?

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

I am probably wrong. I know the rezound is launching at the same time, but 3 phones? Especially one without bloat? I may be looking too much into it but it's almost as if the nexus is the ugly redheaded step child and vzw would rather sell the other bloat heavy ones.

I kinda agree with this to a certain extent in that they are probably going to prioritize phones with their own bloatware services but I also think they really do want to sell it as much as we want to buy it. It's not like the Nexus was forced on to them by anyone. These devices are likely to be under signed mutual agreement or contractual obligation. Contracts only work when all parties (Samsung/Google and Verizon) agree to it. It's likely Verizon wouldn't have been blind to the fact that the Nexus was a pure Android experience and agreed to have it as apart of their line up. Of course, we don't know what stipulations or conditions are negotiable later if that were the case.

They are supposed to be launching a new bb curve in there sometime too. also Verizon clearly wanted the phone or they wouldn't have signed on to sell it.

And then NVIDIA refuted such notions that the Tegra 2 had any issues with LTE radios, citing the Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE tablet on Verizon as an example of having no problems (at the time). Of course the Tegra being their product, of course they would do that. But it's hard to argue with the fact that Samsung had no issues using LTE with a Tegra chip on a mobile device.

Not that I don't think there's a possibility of this thing launching after Black Friday, I just don't think the return period would have anything to do with it. I find it hard to believe that there would be a mad rush of people who would want to return their Razrs to get a Nexus to justify spacing out the release for that reason alone.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying there was or wasn't a problem just the reason so many people said there was....

Keeping in mind the LTE galaxy tab 10.1 was 3g for a long time and wasn't released too long before the Xoom upgrade became available, Xoom testers had LTE versions matter a fact.

We both know its not impossible, its been done. But without actually being in the industry with nvidia or LTE radios its tough to say what kind of hurdles had to be overcome. A processors architecture can effect a lot of different things in a lot of different ways. Keeping in mind the nvidia soc has a 3rd core fore its sleep battery conservation, that alone could cause initial problems....

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Well according to a tweet by p3 a few days back if the date for the 21st doesn't stick we will have to wait until nov 31st. Good thing there is only 30 days in november

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

I'll be selling my iPhone 4S and hopefully get enough to offset the cost of the phone.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

It sure will be nice when we all have the phones in hand so, we discuss some things about it.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

I saved money from selling old phones aside. Wont cover entire cost, but i wont be hurting from whatever price tag Verizon decides to go with off- contract

I did the same thing and have enough saved up for full retail. Just take my money already Verizon.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Why *should* they say anything about the release date? What possible benefit would there be for them to make a promise that they might have to break, if something causes a delay?

And make no mistake: if they announced a release date and then had to change it, they would get NO credit for having announced a date. People would instead criticize them for announcing a date and not sticking to it

Just thought I'd mention a tidbit that slipped your mind. VzW opened up preorder sales on the Razr well before an in store date was given. Gave a release date. Stated they would receive it on that day. Then changed it again to a new date & time. Just sayin...

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Good point, I guess release dates aren't truly final till they actually pass. :p

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

..I'm not personally subscribing to any theories that place any of the big three phones above the others in a majority of normal people's minds. Nor do I believe Verizon knows yet which of these phones they should bet on, and I do think they only want to bet on the one that's going to sell the most by itself....

One of these things is not like the other ones... Think they already put that topic to bed already. Launched first & had a 2 week preorder vs Nada, certainly makes it stand out from the other candidates. Up to this point, anyhow.

I would also assume that Verizon had contractual obligations regarding the launches of the Motorola and HTC. Also remember that the size Verizon's order for the next big phone from those companies depends on how many of these phones are sold.

Verizon really has no stake in how well the Nexus sells. Of course its going to give preferential treatment to Droids.

No stake? Verizon has to spend a lot of money to carry any phone. They have to buy the phones at wholesale from the manufacturer, and also pay the costs of warehousing, shipping to stores, updating inventory and ordering systems, testing, producing marketing materials, training sales and support staff, and so forth. It's a significant investment of their shareholders' money. Of course they want a return on that investment. If they didn't want to sell the Nexus, they would not be offering it.

If Verizon had no stake in how well it does, then they wouldn't sit on them in their warehouse. They'd just set them out on the floor quietly and list them on the website and let them fend for themselves.
The assumption that all Verizon customers will favor the Nexus over all other high, mid, and low end phones is pretty much concentrated in this forum.
I don't think Verizon feels they need to give the Droids a handicap

They are going to set them on the floor relatively quietly. It was a poor choice of words on my part. Its not that they have no stake in the Nexus, but it is considerably smaller than their stake in the Droids. Therefore they will favor them. I agree that the Nexus sentiment found on these forums doesn't really reflect the actual consumer base.

You guys are taking crzycrkr's post out of context. Read the whole thing, not just one sentence.

Thank you sir, but it was a poor choice of words on my part. My point is that Verizon capitalizes on the Droid brand. The following Nexus may not go to Verizon first, and then where does that leave them if they leverage Droids to sell the Nexus. The Droid name is much more important to them than a dev phone that a miniscule percentage of their customer base knows of and wants.
