Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on November 21st?

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Thank you voice of reason. Jeez people, relax. They just showed the phone. I kinda hope they say January just for all you people flipping out. Your current phone is just as good as it was before they announced the Nexus.

I would laugh. So much.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

They could say "Hey, glad you're interested -- we're currently thinking it will be the week of Thanksgiving, but we have a couple of details still to iron out." But from a bottom-line perspective, there really is no reason for them to do so.

And then if they did that, then people would still be pissing themselves off because it's not a DEFINITE release date.

And then people would be counting down the days to the week of Thanksgiving, and if the day before the week of Thanksgiving came without a definite release date, people would be pissing themselves off and blaming Verizon, Google, and/or Samsung.

And then if for some reason the phone got delayed for internal reasons and ended up missing the week of Thanksgiving, people would again be pissing themselves off and blaming Verizon, Google, Samsung, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, their moms, Santa Claus, the Wicked Witch of the West, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, the Phantom of the Opera, and who knows who else.

I kid, but it's true.

This should be a learning point for Google and Samsung. Actually, they need to take a few pointers from Apple.

I agree. As I've said before, I would rather them not announce it until right before they were ready to launch it.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

Does anyone actually assume that Samsung/Google have no power as far as release date. I'm pretty sure Verizon learned their lesson with the iphone and the GS2 as far as passing on phones and being hardheaded. They have to be more willing to play ball if they want to remain current.

They don't. The only company with power over Verizon is Apple. Verizon said to Samsung, "we don't want the GSII, we're getting a Nexus". And then Verizon tells Google "We'll release it when it's beneficial to our other holiday releases".

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

I just can't believe that, doesn't sound plausible. Verizon is powerful but not stupid. If they flex too much they are likely to scare away these manufacturers who could go right to Sprint and AT&T and not lose sleep. Those other 2 have the nicer phonelineup anyhow.

didnt know we had a high level Verizon insider in here.

nice assumptions though

God forbid a business should release something when they deem the most beneficial for them and their shareholders, lol.

I don't have a problem with VZW making a business decision, I just wish they'd be a little more concrete about it. And I'm inpatient.

How much more concrete can you be than not putting out a release date? I really people are impatient, that's the main emotion behind everyone complaining here. Everyone saw it, now they want it

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

You won't hear me complaining. I'm going to wait til after tax refunds anyways so there may be something twice as nice by then. :)

You made some nice assumptions, too.

Mine were a little educated, based on Verizon past dealings/Google's lack of a pair.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

RE: I am just gonna wait and see what happens, this is starting to remind me of the way they are bringing Yuengling beer into my part of Ohio. First it was supposed to be the last week of October, then the date got moved to the first week in November, and now they are saying there is a distribution issue and we may not get it until the end of the month.

I have to have a buddy of mine bring it to me from Mobile, AL to Louisiana. We drink more in Louisiana than anywhere else and I can't get it on a regular basis. Can't believe it!!!!!!!!

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

6 pages w/o speculation of what w/o means. Progress! :p

As far back as I can remember availability for Android phones have always been on Thursday's or Friday's.

The Droid X, Incredible, Fascinate, Bionic, Thunderbolt, and Xoom were all on Thursday's as is the RAZR.

The Original Droid & Eris was on a Friday.

All of a sudden the Rezound breaks tradition with a 11/14 Monday release. I personally believe they are making these recent exceptions to avoid in store overlap of the Rezound running Gingerbread, and the Galaxy Nexus running ICS.

Who's going to walk into a Verizon store and choose the Rezound or RAZR over the Galaxy Nexus if they all came out on the same day? Of course, someone will, but I haven't seen any "Should I get the Rezound or the Galaxy Nexus?" threads in the forums like I usually do for other devices.

Also, if you've owned a Thunderbolt, Droid X, Incredible, or just about any other upcoming miracle, you'll also know that all the variances in blurry cam shots of release dates are part of the process.

W/O doesn't necessarily mean "web only." I can't believe this website makes it sound like this is news. Good grief.

Personally, I'd prefer they not keep these things to themselves.

Can anyone tell me what verizon gains from these nexus shenanigans? This makes no sense. who is in charge of product launches? Can verizon bloatware really be worth the customer good will toilet swirl the are engineering right now?

If there's bloatware on the Galaxy Nexus - that's news to me. The Thunderbolt release date rumor torture was a lot worse than this one. The only timeframe that Verizon has committed too is "later this year."

I think it's the tweets from Panda (black_man_x), who works for google and is thought to be a credible source of info...

Katherine

Exactly.

Re: Galaxy Nexus Web Site Only Release on the 21st?

^ Good point with the GB/ICS comparison. Even for non-techies, side by siding them to a random customer on release and having to justify one coming out after with an older OS would be an awkward thing to do.

If anything the techies should be more understanding of this fact than the non-techies. The techies should realize that the likes of HTC and Motorola don't have access to ICS yet and they need to put their skin on it before releasing the phone. The non-techies more than likely don't know what goes on to get the software on the phone.

I have heard that there will be 2 - 3 VZW "Bloat Apps" that have shown up in a recent build that someone has seen for Big Red's version of the Nexus. It was noted that it appeared as though the bloat would be My Verizon and Verizon Wireless Backup (Backup Assistant, I think). There was supposed to be another but those were the only two mentioned. Who knows, if these do show up there maybe there will be the option of uninstalling them. Only way to know is to actually get one of these in our hands and test drive the hell out of it. I am thinking that if there is a preorder I will be doing so. This phone will be so full of awesomesauce that it won't even matter!!

I'm an avid supporter of the Nexus and will be first in line to buy one out of contract the day it goes on sale, but I have to disagree with this line of thinking. For almost anyone that walks into Verizon to buy a phone, all the salesman has to say is, "Sure the Nexus is running ICS, but these new phones over here have 1.5 ghz processors and 8 mp cameras. That Nexus only has 1.2 ghz and a 5 mp camera. These are much more advanced and will have ICS very soon." Although none of us would fall for that (and know that very soon probably means 3 to 6 months), I'd guess that 99 out of 100 will.
