Galaxy Note 10.1 2014: 4.4.2 must not be far away

Re: The Note 10.1 2014 4.4.2 must not be far away

I'm with you Diane, I also DON'T want the new Magazine UX to ever come to any of my phones. I don't like MyMagazine as an app, I certainly don't want it as a HomeScreen, even if I change the launcher anyway :P

As for the reason to choose the Tab, I'm not sure, I heard somewhere that this time around the Pro models DO have NFC, something I never thought I'd miss having, but with my Note 3 and how easy it is to share stuff via NFC I often find myself trying to beam things to the tablet, only to remember I can't just tap the two together.

I guess I'm the odd one out. I don't want a magazine UI. Maybe I'm just old school (or just OLD). But I like arrangeable icons on my home screens so I can control where and how they look, for me to be the most productive with it.

You still have the old icon look, you can remove "most" of the Magazine UX, they are just widgets, you can long press and delete them, the only one you cannot is the weather date and time widget, but if you move that on to your homescreen it will delete the other pages, this is how it works on the 8.4 tab pro

Ya I kinda figured there were options do that, I mean after all even controlled windoze8 lets you change back to 7 style desktop

Re: The Note 10.1 2014 4.4.2 must not be far away

Just an FYI...according to Phandroid, our tablet is on the official list for the 4.4 update. No mention of Magazine UX.

We’d already gotten word from an inside source that Samsung had big plans for KitKat, and those rumors have just become reality. Samsung has just officially announced that 14 different Galaxy devices will be receiving the upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. That’s a lot of devices, so let’s not waste any time and jump right into it:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini
Samsung Galaxy Mega
Samsung Galaxy Light
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition

Samsung made it a point to mention that “select” carrier editions of all these devices would get it, which pretty much means it’s up to your carrier to decide whether or not they’ll ultimately bring it to their version of any of these. We have a feeling quite a few of the devices on this list are going to be updated on nearly every carrier imaginable, though, so we wouldn’t worry too much about missing out.

Let the frantic hitting of the 'Check for Updates' button begin :)

Samsung UK is advertising the note 2014 edition with magazine UX.

Re: The Note 10.1 2014 4.4.2 must not be far away

It's kind of annoying that phones, like the Note 3, have received Kit Kat before the tablet. The Note 3 had to have Kit Kat messed with by Samsung, then by carrier. We have one less step with our tablets, so why the longer time to release?

I'm sure it's some simple explanation, making people think I'm a fool for not seeing, and I'll likely agree.

I agree completely. I really don't understand it. I think it probably has to do with the amount of users on a device. More popular devices get support first.

I've been hitting the "Check Update Button" button everyday. :) I am getting quite frustrated with waiting on this update.

It could take days, weeks or months :D
Don't set yourself up for disappointment when the update does finally arrive... nothing groundbreaking about KitKat. Most changes are under the hood... there might be a slight speed bump for a tablet that is already speedy. You might not even notice the difference. The Magazine UX is just a bunch of Flipboard like widgets on your home screen and we don't even know if we will get access to Hancom. You currently have the best 10 inch Android tablet on the market so just enjoy it :)

Your doing that to yourself man lol. Just sit back and enjoy what ya got. It'll come and you probably won't be as excited a week after getting KitKat to be honest. Then you'll hear about lollypop potentially hitting our device and put yourself in the same frustration lol

Exactly. Right now, this tablet is by far the best 10" tablet. Enjoy it and don't fret about an update you may or may not get.

This may be a little off-topic but I guess I happened to be one of the few people that's NOT actually looking forward to the kit kat update on the Note 10.1 (2014). Therefore, can anyone tell me the name of the file that can be frozen in Titanium Backup that will prevent the OTA update? That would be greatly appreciated!

Are you rooted?

Re: The Note 10.1 2014 4.4.2 must not be far away

No, I have still received the updates on various devices even while rooted. My Galaxy S3 just received one the other day when I booted it up AND it even installed it (which was really weird) and because of it I lost root! Normally, the OTA updates will prompt you to download them even when rooted, and will only give you a choice to postpone it for a day or so, then it will keep prompting you again and again to download it...it's very annoying. What you are probably thinking of Russell is that it normally won't "INSTALL" properly if rooted, especially if you've removed some bloatware or frozen some of the Touchwiz stuff. It will typically just error out if you try to install an OTA update on a rooted device, but in the case of my S3 it downloaded AND installed before I could stop it.

Therefore, once again, I am looking for the name of the updater on the Note 10.1 (2014) so I can freeze it to ENSURE that no updates are downloaded or installed, and with no constant prompts! I've done it on my Note 2 and Note 3, but I don't see the same file names on the Note 10 in TB in order to freeze it.

Anyone know?...

Re: The Note 10.1 2014 4.4.2 must not be far away

Well that's not the case with this device because the Knox bit has been tripped so you will not receive ota...

If I've helped at all hit the thanks button! B-)
