Re: Note 3 Case Thread.
I've been debating with myself over and over on what solution to go with, and maybe you guys can give some suggestions based on your own experience.
First of all, I'm a bit of a klutz. I drop stuff all the time. I absolutely need a protective case. Second, I usually have a lot of stuff in my pockets, so I would need some kind of clip or holster. Third, I'm tired of having a cover to flip over every time I use the phone, so no more diary-styled cases anymore--I'll just use gorilla glass to protect the screen.
My current options are:
Case + clip (applied by adhesive) - This option would do away with needing a separate unit for attaching the phone to my clothes (will clip on the lip of the pockets of my jeans or jacket. On the jeans, the phone will be on the outside, and on the jacket, the phone will be on the inside of the pocket). The only downside to this option is having a clip permanently attached to the case and I'll feel it whenever I use the phone, but it'll allow me to use any case I want.
Case + matching holster - These are sold are a complete system, and on paper it seems like a great idea, but the problem is, of the available systems out there, none of them have visual designs I truly like, and the holster is hard plastic, so when wearing it, your hand will brush/bump that hard plastic and it's not as pleasant as using a soft pouch-styled holster made of leather or nylon. Of the currently available systems, only the Seidio Surface have a decent visual design (the Dilex is too clumpy, while other systems have low ratings on Amazon), but the Surface doesn't have a white option, which is what I'm looking for (to match the white Note 3):
Case + soft pouch/holster - This is a good option, and the only downside is that there's an extra pouch/holster to deal with compared to the first option of just case + clip. But at the same time, it allows the phone and case to not have a permanently attached clip you'll feel every time you use the phone. It'll also allow me to pick any case I want to use, as long as it's not extremely bulky and won't fit the pouch/holster.
If I go with the case+clip or cast+soft pouch/holster option, I'll likely get one of these cases:
All of them look better to me than any of the case+holster complete systems. I do have one concern though. Just how much protection does a phone really need from a case? There are cases with thick rubber/silicon/D3O bumpers that absorb shock, while others just have a hard/semi-hard shell. How necessary is the shock-absorbing element? All the cases with the shock-absorbing elements look too chunky to me and not elegant enough, so I'd prefer to avoid them if they don't really protect the phone any better.
