Galaxy S3: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

I was having the same problem and did what another poster said, go into camera then settings and pressed reset. Worked like a charm, hope this helps.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

Hi. I have the same problem.
I've figured out a really simple solution if you can't be bothered with loading new programs and having your pics stored all over the shop.
Here it is (you'll giggle at the simplicity):

1. Open your photo using whatever photo-viewing app/program you want (on your computer)
2. Rotate it to the position that is correct
3. Open 'Snipping Tool'
4. Snip the pic and then save it.

:) I'm so pleased that I'm a tech-greenie because there's no way I'd come up with such a simple old-skool solution if I wasn't.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

After going from the GS3 to the Moto X I'm still having this issue, but only with the front facing camera. Rather than rotate the pic, it flips it so it's like looking in the mirror. A camera app I downloaded from Play rotates the pics. I wonder if it's less a Samsung thing and more of an Android thing.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

All I know is that when I take a photo now that is portrait oriented it looks fine on the phone but if I send it to my computer, instagram, facebook or anything else it comes out sideways. On the computer I can rotate it back and save it, crop it and change the shape, size, etc. And it will look fine on the computer. But try to upload it from there onto facebook and again it rotates back to the original orientation. None of my other phones have had this trouble. One of the reasons I bought this was to take photos for facebook and instagram and for my blog - do I have to stop the screen auto rotation on the phone - and why should that make a difference once I transfer the file to the computer and manipulate it? I'm not computer illiterate, but this is my first smart phone and this is really pissing me off.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

I've tried erasing everything, locking the screen, every other thing on this page and none of it works. I don't want to download a program that then does something to something and then may fix it - IT SHOULD"T BE A ******* PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE THAT NEEDS SOME CRAP PATCH TO FIX IT!!!!

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

Be sure to contact Samsung (they have online chat) and let them know how displeased you are. No one here can do anything about this problem.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

I love "The EXIFS orientation flag is considered unreliable because it is not widely supported, and double rotations can occur". Yes, because YOU DON'T SUPPORT IT!!!
Way to go, Microsoft.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

I have an LG G2 which was only released a while ago - im having the same issue! If i take a picture from the instagram app in portrait mode it stays in portrait but if i upload it from my camera roll (ex iphone user) then it is in landscape mode - ive tried rotating it in my camera roll but no matter what i do it always gets uploaded on its side.
When i first got the phone it was ok but its not anymore - soooooooooooooooooooooo frustrating. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHzdf, jghsdfhjsdfgjkl;nhasfdlkjasndfklj sdvm

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

ive got an lg and it happens - i dont think its a Samsung problem - although it would be interesting to hear what they say

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

New owner of a Galaxy s3 and this " bug" is driving me crazy. Didn't happen with my old HTC phone, doesn't happen with my iPod Touch. And it's not fair to blame the applications when it's widely used applications like Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, etc. Samsung needs to fix this, pronto. I'm tired if looking like an ***** who doesn't know how to take pictures/upload them correctly.

I agree with the looking like an asswipe hahah but i have an LG G2 and it happens with that - i previously had an iphone which didnt do it - my mate has a nokia lumia and it doesnt do it on his either- an adroid issue maybe????

If that's the case then odds are that something you've installed or changed is causing the problem.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

When you plug your phone into your computer and start uploading, there is a box at the bottom of your computer screen and in there says rotate pictures after upload and it is checked. I unchecked it the second time and they no longer rotate after being uploaded

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

I have a note 3 and use Google Drive to move my pictures between devices. I still havent found a solution for this problem.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

Mine was doing the same thing and it was the horizontal calibration under settings, display

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

I also encounter this issue.

From my findings, it is both Android developer & Windows issue.

Like what somebody mentioned, HTC phones do NOT have such issue. If you were to be using Windows 8, the pictures orientation will appear correctly.

Re: Photos are always being rotated! Why!

MY GOD look how long the dates are on this thread OK so I noticed this also that the pictures and the video from my Galaxy s4 are sideways on my pc and I can rotate the pictures but I haven't been able to rotate the video, it looks to me like Samsung wants you to take photos or video in the horizontal position not vertical holding the phone up sure they look great on the phone but when sent to your loving pc they are sideways for the love of god why I have tried everything from rotation setting to import settings on my pc and it wont change the video to vertical it appears the phone has only 4 resolution settings they want you to take video in the 16:9 or 4:3 setting horizontally like a movie---------------also I noticed there is no way to turn off sound like my HTC sensation had while recording other than muting but its still there on you pc. have any of you noticed that? NOW the only way I can think of is GRAB you pc monitor and turn it sideways and yep there you go perfect video.
