Galaxy S3 vs. Galaxy Nexus

Are you going to buy the Samsung Galaxy S3?

GSIII may be the most underwhelming "hyped" phone in quite a while (probably right behind what people thought the "Nexus Prime" was going to be;)).

There are too many device announced!

You have to wait and see how the new phone actually shakes out before comparing them IMO. And what the heck is "touchwhiz"? Sounds like some urinary incontinence problem to me.

Probably not, not looking at a new phone until October 2012 at the earliest

And by then, probably worth just waiting for the next Nexus, assuming it will be available on Verizon...

I definitely agree with everyone in here. The fact that it has felt so underwhelming and so over hyped, it makes this device seem very insignificant in the Best Smartphone wars. I was expecting something incredibly innovative that I would use. They have a lot of things on the SGIII that are nice to have features. But where is the breakthrough tech? That was what I was expecting.

This phone is honestly set out to compete with the HTC One X. And to be perfectly honest, it's not much to compete with.

And I can see one major problem with this new SGIII. Battery life is going to suck even with a 2100 mAH battery. The front camera is always on from what they explained.

Galaxy Nexus all the way for me. At least until the 2013 Nexus comes out. Whoever the manufacturer is.

By the time my upgrade is up (November 2013), there better be a quad core Nexus 2 (or something in those lines) by then.

There will not be a phone that will be good enough reason for a current Nexus owner to ditch their device any time soon. SGIII is a good phone, but I just do not see any specific reason why anyone would ditch their Nexus for it. Camera quality shows its true colors if you are viewing it on a way bigger screen. Besides, their are camera apps that really make the Nexus' camera so much better. Maybe a phone that comes out in 2013. For now, I don't see a phone that is much better than my Nexus.

If I was choosing between buying the GSIII or Galaxy Nexus, I'd pick the GSIII, but it isn't worth upgrading from the Nexus in my opinion. If the screen wasn't PenTile though, I'd probably upgrade as soon as it came to Verizon.

Just read that the S3 doesn't have the Recent Apps function, which is for me the single most useful feature of ICS.

WTF? Why cripple an OS in the name of "differentiation"? This does nothing more than eliminate all non-Nexus Samsung phones from serious consideration AFAIC.

Said it once and I'll say it again: eff Touch Whizz.

Maybe it's just this subset of enthusiast group but I really now do see why people are only interested in the Nexus line

Or, to be a little flexible, phones that are easily unlocked and rooted (goodbye Moto)

There doesn't seem to be anything that's significantly better than the GN. The screen has the same resolution which is the most important spec. Quad cores are useless until Android adds real multitasking and maybe not even then. The really heavy duty processing is done by dedicated processors, i,e, the signal processor for the radios and the graphics processor for the display and video. That doesn't leave much for four cores to do. The camera is better but upgrading a phone for a better camera would be like buying a new car to get better cup holders. It would be nice to have the uSD slot but as a practical matter the 32G in the GN is more than sufficient.

Hoping that by the time I'm at the end of the GN contract there will be a 1080p phone.

Have you seen what they have to do to unlock the Rezound?
They have to open the back and take a wire and short out 2 pins.
Moto has said it will make its bootloader more easily unlockable, yeah right.
I just love how Samsung is so mod friendly. Even their touchwiz devices are easily unlocked.
This nexus however, is absolutely made for mucking around with.

I was just reading about that the other day, sounds gruesome what HTC users have to go through :)

I also read the One X on AT&T is coming with a locked bootloader

Samsung really does make it easy as compared to its competitors. In searching through the S2 forums though, while it certainly has a larger userbase, I do feel the development community here in the Nexus forums is larger in size. Not sure if we'll see the same in the S3

AWESOME Development community , soft keys, and vanilla for the win!!!!!

I will be sticking with my Nexus till the next one is released....Come on VZW...please carry it.

The only other phone I will get will probably be the next Nexus...whether it be on Verizon or an unlocked version sold from Google. To be clear, the S3 is a nice phone but just not enough to justify jumping from the Galaxy Nexus if you are satisfied with it already.

I've said it before and now with the official announcement of the S3 I'll say it again:

There is STILL no phone on the market that makes me even consider switching from the GNex :)
