Galaxy S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

I'm using Dolphin.

Rev.

I compared Dolphin and Opera extensively and went with Opera. It seems a bit smoother and it does flash websites natively. I think Dolphin is a bit less of a battery and resource hog but overall I found Opera more pleasing. They both do a good job of text reflow, something that is of the utmost importance to me.

I have Flash working 100% perfectly fine in Dolphin on my phone. I just installed the Flash player for KitKat hack and it's perfect. On my tablet however the latest update of Dolphin made Flash, even after a reinstall, not function 100% so thankfully I haven't updated Dolphin on my phone which is was I use the most. They keep messing up over at Dolphin making things worse then fixing things again after the users tank their reviews with complaints. Only updated the tablet since I had a really old Dolphin version where I had to tap like 4 times to get to a site through bookmarks.

There have been several references to this phone lagging. First of all I don?t recall any lag at all when I played with it in the Vz store. But if there are occasional lags are they due to the Touch Wiz OS? And if this is presumed to be the cause shouldn't switching to a 3rd party launcher like Nova rectify the problem (if there even is one)?

For those of you who have the phone what's your experience with the phone's smoothness? I'm coming from an HTC DNA which is smooth as butter. The DNA's camera is crap and the screen doesn't come close to the S5.

The tweaks are available within the settings of all recent Android phones in a section called ?Developer options.?

This section might be hidden on some phones, but it?s very easy to access. On many phones, you just have to open a certain page in the settings and tap a button seven times. Use Google to figure out how to enable Developer options on your phone if it?s currently hidden (for example, search ?enable developer options HTC One?).

Once you have access to Developer options, simply scroll until you find the following three settings, which may be located on the main screen or within an ?Advanced? subsection:

Window animation scale

Transition animation scale

Animator animation scale

Tapping each of the three aforementioned settings will reveal that it?s set to ?1x? by default. If you want to speed up your phone or tablet dramatically, simply change each of those three settings to ?.5x? ? that?s it. p.s restart your device.

Touchwiz is simply a heavy UI. Stock Android, different launchers, and other skins like sense all surpass it on fluidity.

Mine lags horribly in my keyboard and phone dialer. Battery pull did nothing.

Yes. I just changed the runtime over to ART. Seemed to do the trick, for now....

Bah...it's starting to slow down again. Tried everything in this thread...I guess it's something in TouchWiz. It gets to the point where it delays a few seconds when I type a few letters (I'm a fast typer, but damn) and then loads the ones I typed, then lags again. Sometimes the words duplicate. It lags unlocking, when I get a phone call it takes about 10-15 seconds for the phone to turn the screen on so I can answer. Starting to show itself in every aspect of the OS. I'm typing a book now since earlier my keyboard was lagging and it was pretty much making it impossible to type comfortably. I tried to take a picture earlier and by the time the camera opened, which took about 7 seconds during which a blank screen was showed, the shot was gone. Just some examples for those of you lucky enough not to have to deal with this.

I wonder why so much variance between our phones. I just went through all sorts of things on my phone trying to experience some lag and couldn't. Could it be some app or service some of you have running in the background that's slowing it down? If mine got that bad, I'd do a hard reset and make changes very slowly so I know what caused the problem. There's some things I just don't run like Google Now or Google location reporting.

Should film it so we can see whats going on. Film the lag, battery status, apps running

Can you guys who have no lag, film different parts of your phone where some people have lag, while you don't?

How long have you had the phone for? Do you have a lot of apps installed and a lot of services running?

I am wondering if there are some updates going on in the background?

I have never experienced the kind of lag you report. an occasional minor slow down, but nothing consistent.

I have nearly all of the junk services turned off, such as Google services, I turned off sync and notifications on that. I keep DATA turned OFF all the time. It is never turned ON unless I am away from the house and need access to the outside world.

I would suggest you try Battery Doctor or similar app to turn off SYNC and DATA. When home or around a WiFi just turn on WiFi

This phone honestly should not lag with any of that turned on. That would be poor design. (Not that I am saying it isnt) I'll have to see if I can get the old BlackBerry out tonight to use as a camera because other than this phone I have only the BB to record with. I might point out that nothing 3rd party here has any issue. If something lags, it's OS related such as the phone or keyboard. The apps themselves have no issue whatsoever. It could be an app, but since only the OS behaves badly, it might be tough to find out which one.
I need to keep my data turned on. Our wifi at work just plain sucks and I'm hardly ever home anymore due to working so much.
If I turn off sync it will just be a pain in the *** to manually update everything.
UPDATE: did a hard reset (reluctantly) and still the problem exists. Thinking I might do a warranty exchange....only had this thing a few weeks. Wow.

Nova is just a launcher, you're still using touchwiz, all the launcher does is change the cosmetic look. It gives Samsung an adult look, aka the Google nexus or AOSP look instead of a sesame street look!

If you compare it to a AOSP rom you will find that its most definitely slower. You don't realize how much Touchwiz taxes the system until you compare them side by side. I took my Galaxy S3 to the Samsung store with a SlimRom AOSP Rom, compared it to the S4, everything on my phone worked smoother and faster! the apps opened quicker, camera worked quicker. The overall phone is just smoother, you have no monster ui taxing the system! now if your the type that needs all the gimmickry, then by all means this is a great phone, but you'll never know the true potential of the phone until you get rid of touchwiz! and using a launcher doesn't do that, all a launcher does is change the sesame street look of the phone. If you need a phone that you can swipe down the crack of your A#s and get your body temperature, then baby, touchwiz is your puppy!! But if you want a smooth operating phone that just works...then look for a google play edtion or put a custom rom on your phone, I have and have never looked back, it would be a snowing day in hot place before i could ever go back to touchwiz.

Are you able to add some if not all of the TouchWiz features to an aosp rom? If not, do you find that you miss certain TouchWiz features?

Btw, I just got the phone last week Wednesday and I don't see "a lot" of lag. I do see some lag such as when launching the dialer and messaging app. It takes about 2 seconds to launch and after launching and exiting out, they launch faster.

Other than that, I haven't noticed too much lag. I hope it isn't where the phone starts lagging after a while of owning it. Does anyone whos had the phone for a while know if the phone lags after a while of owning it?

Just when I thought I saw the last of this thread a couple weeks ago...someone raises it from the dead. Damn...I just contributed to it staying alive...lol.
