Galaxy S5: Huge disappointment, Samsung TOTALLY dropped the ball!

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

The software running on the devices at MWC is most definitely not final. You can say "well it looks final" but guess what? It's not.

They are for sure still going to be fixing bugs up until the day the device ships to retailers, and then still fixing bugs. It's how it goes.

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

My upgrade hits at the end of April and i have an S3. Everyone else in my family upgraded (Dad got a Note 3 and a 5c for his other line, sister got a gold 5s, mom got a 5c). I'm the only one left out and the S5 looks really good to me.
My wife has the Note3 and it doesn't look that good, but the screen rocks. She uses it instead of the iPad now. My HTC One screen is at least as good, the speakers are better, than the S4. Touchwiz kind of blows but it's not horrible. Her camera is good, not great. Mine is probably better.

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

But in reality, with the bump in size the S5 is now almost at the point of cannibalizing the sales of the Note line and vice-versa. Why would you not just get the Note 3 in April? Still months before a Note 4, an extra gig of RAM, a bigger screen yet not that much bigger to make a huge difference, and an S-Pen, plus a bigger battery.

Re: Huge disappointment, Samsung TOTALLY dropped the ball!

My upgrade date is in Sept so I'm stoked. Prices will be more competitive then. Can't wait to trade my S3 in.

Looks like I might stick with HTC again this year! Oh well.

Re: Huge disappointment, Samsung TOTALLY dropped the ball!

I have an upgrade now. Was excited to see if Sammy would surprise me, nope. However, no other flagship looks inspiring either. HTC apparently kept that crap bezel everywhere and added on-screen buttons to further take away screen space on top. LG is just so damn boring and the OS looks un-polished. Here I am waiting for an AT&T Lumia Icon variant with WP8.1

Re: Huge disappointment, Samsung TOTALLY dropped the ball!

I was really impressed with what Samsung did last year on the S4. This was the second time I was really unimpressed by a phone presentation (first time was the iPhone 5c).

Unfortunately, it looks like I'm sticking with the HTC M8 as well, but I was excited at the prospect of moving to Samsung.

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

Just to be clear, I'm a huge android lover and I was hoping for great things here. I despise all things Apple and wouldn't take an Apple product if you gave it to me. Sammy really blew it big time. The S4 has been a sales disappointment and this is going to be a total bomb.

Yes, big sales bomb, only the best selling smartphone in 2013.

I am not wowed by the S5, but some of the features look nice. I did not want to see a metal body - already have had heavy phones. The rumor on the screen seemed pretty stupid and glad to see it was not true either. I like the waterproofing, good add but not original. Any Touch Wiz improvements would be helpful for those who use touch wiz, personally its the first thing I would ditch on any Samsung device.

Disappointed not to see 3 GB of RAM and to still see base storage start at 16 GB. Would really like to see 32 GB start becoming the starting point for most mid to high level devices.

I would not rush out to get an S5, but pretty much in line with what I expected a moderate upgrade.

Re: Huge disappointment, Samsung TOTALLY dropped the ball!

....Same horrible physical home button (ughhh), Basically the same capacity battery, a couple more megapixel camera, no improvement to the screen, it's significantly larger and heavier with only a 0.1" bump in screen size. No metal body as had long been rumored, same cheap s*** plastic look and feel as other Galaxy phones. Not a thing to really "move the needle." No 4000Ma battery, no optical image stabalization, no ultra HD screen, etc. In short, a serious piece of s***.
Samsung, you're going to get you *** handed to you by Apple.
This is just pathetic.

I just don't like the phone because of the 8gig for their BS software, and their arrogance to be honest.

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

Antennagate hindered performance.

I had issues with my wife's 5s too... Crashing, non responsive.

Don't forget their whole Apple Maps thing, or the issues people had with iOS 7:

iOS 7: 32 Common Problems Users Have and How to Fix Them (Updated) | Digital Trends

Yep, 32 problems and how to fix them.

People like to forget when Apple makes mistakes and remember when everyone else makes them, but the reality is that all tech companies have major errors that make it into final releases.

The OP is a bit ridiculous with how vitriolic he is regarding the S5, and apparently has some facts wrong about how well the S4 performed (it was the best selling Android phone of 2013 and third best selling smartphone overall). Them not meeting some overly lofty expectations (which is ironic, considering the lofty expectations the OP had for the S5) doesn't mean that the phone didn't sell well. I don't know how anyone would expect anything but an incremental improvement over the S4. I'm actually a bit surprised they made the screen any bigger. When the S5 was in the early stages of development no one really knew what the next big thing for smart phone design would be and we were already at the point where phones are about as fast as they really need to be to function well. Just dropping in the newest SoC, taking on a couple random bells and whistles and taking the opportunity to work on the UI seems like the logical thing to do. Take some time to really figure out what to do next and work on something big. It's basically what Apple did with the 5 and even the 5S to a point.

Hopefully on next year's set of phones we'll see a lot more work put into battery conservation while adding always on features. I'd like all the location reporting, sensors and voice activation to be continuous and super battery efficient. I'll take that over my browser starting up a fraction of a second faster than it did before.

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

Ah but it is the first of the flagships, well have to wait and see what the other manufacturers come up with!

It's not. We've already has a flagship from both LG and Sony. Also the new HTC One's rumoured specs are in line with what we have seen from Samsung.

Also Samsung have another flagship in the Note 4 which will be released later on in the year.

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

None hindered the performance. I had the 5S on launch day and never did I click an app and it took 4 seconds to load. Especially when people boast about Android and its amazing specs. What good are they when the phone still runs like crap?

I used a 5S just last month and apps crashed on a daily basis and I had the white screen of death/rebooting issue a few times in the months I had it. There is nothing wrong with the performance of the high end android smartphones.

I don't why more people don't ***** about the LG G2; its made of plastic as well, and that too, hard plastic...like original Galaxy S plastic.

Better than most other flagships

Not really. Compare to the G2 which was released in September, and being nearly six months old would be considered "old tech" by some.
Processor running at 2.5 vs 2.3, not a big difference.
16 mp camera vs 13 mp on G2,again not a big improvement.
Smaller battery than G2. 2800 vs 3000.
Same amount of ram as G2.
Most importantly to me, SMALLER screen in a LARGER form factor than the G2.

I was really looking forward to giving the S5 a try, but Samsung failed to give me a good reason to step away from the G2. A fingerprint scanner is not enough motivation.

Notice I said most. Either way, only the battery is better on the G2. I don't like that they made the phone taller :(

Just a quick reminder, if we can't control ourselves from dropping the troll bomb or accusing people of people trolls then you probably shouldn't be posting.

Its always better to step away, report the post in question and let the Mod team handle things.

Oh and a few posts were cleaned up along the way.

Buttons on the back are hideous, regardless of being Verizon-branded or not.
