Galaxy S8 / S8 + Battery Life Thread

Man your results are CRAZY!!!!
Here are my results of yesterday. Didn't make it past 4 hours again.
The day before I had miraculously gotten 5h30 sot so I started to wonder what I had done different.

Here are the three things I can come up with between the good and the bad battery day.

Ok the good battery day:
1. I may have had better signal, but I am not even sure
2. I used Instagram much much less than usual. It's nomarlly the number one app I use the most
3. I didn't use Bluetooth to stream my audio book and Spotify to my airpods.

Besides than, nothing special. Im back with my crappy battery life.

Few things i need to mention:
1. Yes I use a foreign SIM card in my phone which means that I am constantly roaming (but it doesn't mean my signal is bad I always have 4 bars up)
2. My s8+ is an exynos (955f)
3. I purchased the phone directly on the Samsung website.
4. I have not upgraded the phone since purchase (I blocked the ota update that came on the day I received it because I wanted to keep the ability to remap my bixby button to whatever I wish)

Any thoughts as to why I can't get passed 4 hours ??

Maybe it's those 4 things you mentioned. All those combined could be causing a problem

Yeah, can we leave the IPhone out of this please? The **** measuring in this thread is getting ridiculous

BTW I'm also getting sick standby. My S7 edge used to drain overnight a little by it waa frustrating. Not my s8+. I lose a percent or two maybe. And to the iPhone guy. Are you kidding me? The iPhone was surpassed awhile back. You know what this phone looks like next to an iPhone. Every iPhone user I met is dropping there's. They had enough of same old same old.

Is my battery performing properly ?

The screen was on FHD and no Wi-Fi used today. I've been browsing with Chrome, texting, using twitter and facebook. The results from you guys are really amazing even with the wqhd screen that I have to consider mine again.

I just switched from iPhone and I never notice battery lost overnight before in iPhone and I felt like the battery drains really fast comparing with my old iPhone 6+

Well, that doesn't look too bad, you are using a lot of chrome and a lot of Facebook... Both are battery hogs
But it should give you a little more...
How's the signal been where you are?
This is a s8 plus right? Not a s8...
No need to keep your screen at 1080p just switch to wqhd+ it makes virtually no difference on battery
BTW the S8 plus lasts 40% longer than the iPhone 7 plus, so it should at least give you at least 50% more juice than your 6s plus, the iPhone does better at standby but overall it's 40% less efficient

The Battery life for me has been amazing. This is with Bluetooth on and about 3 hours of GPS usage along with wifi and I still had 8 hours left. So far I'm happy miles better than my S7 edge. BTW I have the s8 plus.
Edit: I also have the screen at WQHD

Glad to know that having wqhd+ screen will cause no noticeable difference because I really love it but I didn't want it to drain all my juice and yes my device is S8 plus.

My signal was pretty decent in the morning, but after that, it wasn't so good.
I never knew that having weak signal results in greater battery consumption and I think it could be one of the thing diminishing my battery life.
I will try another day using the Samsung Internet browser instead of Chrome to see if there's any difference.

Here is my Sunday... at home all day on WiFi with cellular on. Indoors on a cloudy day so I had screen at around 30% but with Auto brightness. I was on the phone a lot but on WiFi.
Amazing battery life in my opinion... even considering that I was on WiFi for all of the data downloading, and the relatively low screen brightness.

On wifi, 30% brightness....you didnt go anywhere all day...it doesnt last all day and you are happy? Really, are you really that happy? You are probably SUPER happy with the awesomeness of the device...but are you really that happy with this battery performance? Beauty is in teh eye of the beholder, if you are happy...then I am happy for you. But this thread is also for community, and we need to be honest with eachother....is it more...?hey I freakin love this phone, I am pleasently surprised that the battery doesn't such horribly, but it is really not that great so far? We want to know how you really feel Zyad...and are you s8 or S8 Plus?

Cleaned up some off topic posts -- If you want to make a X vs Y phone thread then by all means -- Do eet! ... But let's leave this thread for people to post / discuss their battery life with their S8 / S8 + :).

S8+ on WQHD, no battery saving modes.
I don't know what you're getting at, but 9 and a half hours of SOT ( out of 12 hours unplugged) with 16% left is great for me, yes.(that's why I mention not leaving the house where it was on wifi). Even at 30% with Auto brightness. Also I have video mode on so when I was on YouTube it cranked up the brightness.
And SOT was with me using apps, installing new ones, some light gaming, and setting up the phone as I like it, with some phone calls in between) I obviously didn't just have it on for that long just staring at the wallpaper.
I'm not here to defend the phone. I don't work for Samsung and this is my first Samsung phone (strictly BlackBerry guy for 10 years before this).
I don't expect a phone to last an entire 24 hours when the screen was on and in use over 9 hours. If you know of another current phone that can do this please let me know.
Typical usage of a "day" for an average user is expected to be 16 hours from off charger to plugged back in with about 4-5 hours of SOT, and for this phone is beating that by a lot so far.

Agree
Same here, very impressed

The Z Play could do 10 hours SOT over a single day, but that's obviously a mid range device with less horsepower.
Yeah , I meant to say "flagship" but you're right, mid-range phones with less power would last long. For example look at the BlackBerry KeyOne just released with the 625 processor, which gets insane battery life.

I used to blow through batteries on my note 4. Interested to see how this thing does 6 months from now. Might be getting out the good old heat gun for a swap...

Did a quick test, YouTube playback, 4K content (maxes out at 1440p on this phone), 60fps. Auto brightness in a dark room and a full brightness tests averaged out, video expanded to fill the screen and video enhancer enabled. All other apps except YouTube shut down. I purposely watched a very bright, vibrant clip found here https://youtu.be/aqz-KE-bpKQ to see what would be worst case drain while using YouTube. Drain is somewhere between 2% to 2.5% per 10 minutes of playback, or 12% to 15% per hour. This gives roughly 6.5-8.5h of continuous YouTube playback. I am using Snapdragon version of the S8+ .

So, for those that claim that they are intense users because they watch YouTube, unless all your content is exactly like the above, which it 100% is not, you're eating through a lot less battery than you think. Sure, YouTube can be draining, but it is only so in pretty extreme circumstances.

So yeah, I stick by what I said before. With mixed moderate to heavy use the normal battery life for the Snapdragon version of the S8+, assuming good signal and no WiFi use is probably between 5h-6h of SOT, and about 15-16h of total time on. It's okay, but nothing to write home about. Those seeing substantially better numbers have a usage pattern that can extend the battery life a lot more. It is not related to superior battery capacity of the S8+.

This is crazy guys look at this.. I'm speechless
