Galaxy S9+ Black Crush and Gradient Banding Issues

Wow, you got your money back a lot faster than I have. Samsung's in no hurry to refund me it seems.

I didn't get it by Samsung, i got it from my seller (Portuguese FNAC store).

I asked for a new one because of the crushing and losing my calls, i didn't even opened the new one i asked for the money back. And that's it

Dang wish I could've gotten a refund for my Pixel 2 I've had to return my original then replacement back because of the black crush.

I have the s9 plus and my daughter has the s9, both have black crush/gradient banding issues. They are equally as bad/noticeable...I have started warranty exchanges on both...First, I contacted Samsung and they told me to take them to a Samsung authorized fix-it dealer. They told me they couldn't correct the issue after having our phones for 4 hours. They had Samsung replacement displays on hand but did not think it would help because they didn't think the display was the problem. They thought it was the logic board. With this being said I don't know how reliable or knowledgeable this person really is. I called Samsung back with this info and they asked me to send the phones in for repair which would mean to be w/out a phone for who knows how long. That's obviously a last resort so I did a warranty exchange thru my carrier. Either way, trying to work directly with Samsung on this issue was a big waste of time!

Flashed the XEU firmware I downloaded with Samfirm (doesn't trigger knox and lets you keep your data).

Btw this only fixed the green grays, not the blockiness, just a FYI so you don't get your hopes up.

Ok. Question?
Is this problem happened to all S9+ model?
Is ok to buy S9+ right now?
Is this a software issue?

All the best YouTube reviewer on Earth (MKBHD, The Verge or even Android central) haven't noticed this problem?

Thanks.

1. As far as I know, this is a problem with all S9+. Every single S9+ I've seen IRL has had this problem and I've never seen anyone proving (with picture evidence) that they don't have this problem.

2. If you are okay with a horrible screen, then sure, it's okay to buy, but the problem is still there :)

3. It's hard to say, I think it can be solved with a software update, but they will only do it if enough people complain about the problem.

There are a couple of reviewers that have mentioned the problem. Erica Griffin mentioned it briefly in her newest video about the S9 and S9+. If you only use the phone in bright daylight you won't ever notice it, but if you use the phone in a dark room you will notice it immediately.

Not all phones have this issue. Mine doesn't.

You must be really lucky then! As I said every single S9+ I have seen IRL has this problem. You do have an S9+ and not the smaller S9, right? Could you please take a photo when you're in a room with low light to prove that you don't have the problem? Preferably with one of the movie scenes on where you clearly can see the problem if you had an affected device? :)

So how do u guys decided? Deal with it and wait for software update? or return it? too bad I think about buy the phone today I heard this black crush from the site 2-3 days ago and I think just a few unit. I have to wait and see how Samsung gonna do something.

I first got a screen replacement, but since the replacement screen also had the same problem I returned my phone. It's not just the black crush, it's also the horrible color banding that makes everything look completely horrible. I would not recommend buying it until Samsung fixes it or at least comes out with a statement that they will fix it.

Thank you for the picture! I agree with you it doesn't look like you have the problem! :) May I ask what the screen brightness was at when you took this picture? On my S9+ (which I've now returned, so I can't compare) the problem wasn't noticable at more than 80% brightness (but then it was so bright it burned my eyes out when I was in a dark room), but it was super noticable at below maybe 40% brightness. If you have time, could you please lower the brightness to maybe 20-30% of max brightness and share more pictures? (for example the black panther trailer etc). This is the first S9+ I've seen without the problem! :)

To the guys not having the issue please download this pic and take a picture with the brightness set to 0 (auto brightness off):
