Galaxy Tab 3 7" - Is it a good tablet????

Yup, really nice little tablet. I'm glad I was able to get the Sprint version for free and with 2GB for $15/month.

If anyone is on the fence about getting one from Sprint today is the Last day to get one for free for signing up for the framily plan.

Well. After feeling bad about chewing on that troll who replied to the "good for students?" thread, I asked about performance on the N7 device forum. UJ95x's response implies that a non-TouchWiz build of Android should bench even higher than the LTE already does <3 What a delightful little titan.

I almost wish there was a GSM model that would use the LTE speeds from T-Mobile. While I can tether from my iPhone, draining the battery from my phone for the sake of a secure network it's one small thing on a wish list. (Aside from the WiFi model update to Kitkat...)

There is an AT&T GSM model, but overall the Tab 3 LTE does not have a channel-promiscuous premium LTE transceiver. Sprint model works great in my main territory but yes I would have appreciated more channels.

Earlier on T-Mobile did offer earlier models of the Galaxy Tab when it was new to the market. The old operating model of service for tablets was quite expensive (I imagine due to the changes to allow 3G to the older Galaxy Tab models and others from Dell and Motorola) so I held out with my WiFi only iPad 2 and for a brief time when there was subtle hope with the BlackBerry PlayBook that I used with my Bold 9700 before looking at Samsung again.

Currently tethered over my iPhone though, I do get some rocking speeds that rival most in home broadband services.

See attached screencap off of my Tab 3. If it didn't kill the battery life of my iPhone 5 (T-Mobile model) I'd be using this a lot more often on the road instead of the short Starbucks stay.

Speaking of which, I do get some odd looks in the house of Apple worship and other nonsense. I'm using a device of the "enemy" with and a Apple product with it that they can't see. But wonder why my internet is much faster then they could ever hope for.

BTW, I did the test during off peak hours to see what kind of speeds were possible.

In honesty your current tethered speed thru iPhone may even exceed what the Tab 3 LTE is easily capable of. I have only been concerned with raw wifi speeds and it does reach the limits of my house connection. I will look into my local cellular speed.

Some users have been buying the unlocked international GSM Tab 3 3g and putting a TMo phone sim into it, that model can in fact be used as a cell phone. Neat trick.

It's really personal opinion! If you want the cluttered and in some cases laggy Samsung Touch Wiz UX, then go ahead! If you know how to root then you can just install stock Android. But I just recommend getting a Nexus 7, while I don't mind the Samsung tablet, I don't like the software so with stock Android Nexus 7 is your best bet!

I don't know, side by side my 7.0 LTE felt faster and smoother than the N7. And when I checked into benchmarks they mostly led me to the same conclusion. Then I was told on the N7 forums that if I can get a working purist build my tablet can pull even further ahead.

Against merely higher DPI the tablet I've got has more compelling features and better practical performance. Nexus is tempting as a toy for me but not as a tool.

I just looked thru the first two pages of threads again on the N7 forum area. It's not a trouble free device. Especially things like idle battery drain and broken GPS and touch scare the **** out of me....the number one scare for the Tab 3 seems to be letting the battery go dead and needing to pop the back off and reset the battery connection. Other than that what you see is what you'll still be able to rely on in six months.

Welcome to the forums!

You know, I almost got the N7 but at the end the GT3 had more and my family and I liked it better.

I do not regret it one bit! My kids are very happy with it and my wife and I use it a lot more than we anticipated.

Oh, and it works great as a universal remote for our TVs and U-Verse!

At home on my own secured network via Comcast my WiFi only Tab 3 has pushed in the upper 50Mbps during off peak times. It's faster in WiFi performance than my iPad 2 but my iPhone 5 is faster than both in ideal conditions.

My wife and son got me one on the latest deal from Sprint, they knew I've been wanting a tab for when I'm down for maintenance or kicking back in the truck, so I can have some more screen real estate, and it compliments the S4 nicely.

Non-broken GPS, multi tasking, video chat and pretty good with Netflix or DVDrips. If you use Opera Mini, Opera for Android (offroad mode) or similar data saving browser it will go a long ways on your data plan. MAKE SURE you align the built in data cutoff quotas with your Sprint billing period so it does the job right, a money saver that is.

Yes, it definitely does complement the GS4 very nice.
