gaps still present in current batches

I've really enjoyed this thread. You have a guy mentioning a defect he's observed that bothered him. Then you have the die-hards that immediately accuse him of trolling because of it. I'm still very glad I was made aware of this because i've been considering a S4 Active, HTC One, Moto X, or possibly the Note 3 when it comes out. I still love the idea of the build on the One, but only if it's as flawless as some people proclaim it to be. Otherwise it'll probably be the Active all the way.

It is only some though. Such as mine is flawless so I like it.. But I don't doubt some have this defect.

If its really that much of a problem I remember reading somewhere about a guy who took matters into his own hands, and put a clear silicone sealant to fill in the gaps...If I can find it I will link it :D

To each their own, I am not spending $700 CAD on a phone that requires me having to do that. I consider the HTC One a top tier premium phone and if I can find one with a premium build (zero gap) then I will still consider purchasing it despite my experience.

Agreed on this. I don't have the cash to shell out for a new one but I almost bought one off a guy on craigslist. That is, until I saw it had gaps and the uneven speaker grill issue. Now gonna wait until htc drops the price so I can buy straight from them and exchange if need be.

Gapps? Man if I saw any gapps on mine, I would run right out and buy a s4!

What some people have a problem with is someone who doesn't own the phone and owns the device that directly competes with the other then goes into a forum and titles a post like this one.. Zero gaps my @$$ and then basically says that HTC was wrong by saying it's zero gap.
This doesn't ask for opinions really nor is it said in a way that wouldn't be offensive.. If people, anyone truly had questions or concerns with the one most people would be glad to help. It would be like me starting a post in the s4 forum titled. "s4 no lag my @&$!"

Except not once did he state anything that wasn't true or was degrading about the device. Yes, the title is a little offensive. And I will change it. However, he handled a one and it had gaps. The same can't be said for most of the people who haven't used an s4 and says it lags.

Let's look at this a second. How do we know it's true. Were anyone of us with him when he went to the store and saw the gaps? Did he take pics of the gaps on ALL the phones he looked at? I know 4 people who have the ONE and none of them have gaps....<----Do you know this to be true?? And it was/is degrading saying every one he saw had gaps, basically saying quality sucks without actually saying it. My take is that if he REALLY wanted a ONE then he would have continued to look for one that conformed to his liking...bought it...then complained about all the gaps in the one's he held. That would have held a lot more water with most of us.

Now I also own the S4. It had lag before I bought it. It has lag after I bought it. After all the updates, it still has lag but I can contest it has gotten better....a little.

I hate the iphone with a passion. I have played with them. They feel like a Tonka toy in an aluminum shell....every one of them. But just because I have held them, I do not go into imore and bash the iphone. This thread is no different. That is all Topgonzo is trying to express.

I got a Samsung S4, have had it for a few weeks. Also had an HTC One. The S4 lags at times in the UI (app's "Drawer" and settings particularly). HTC never lagged in the sense department.
Removing the animations helped tons on the S4.

To the OP: I think you are expecting a little too much and blaming things when there is no one to blame. Anyone who says "get what you pay for" should probably look at what their saying. YOU ARE getting what you are paying for. Saying you want what you pay for implies there is a substantial data point indicating what you are receiving is NOT the norm for that product which is simply not true when HTC has already stated it is normal for a gap to show between speaker grill and the plastic.

I used to collect knives, watches, and swords and spent a good chunk of money. Always obsessing over the smallest details until I realized even after you spent $1,000 for a knife, more for a sword, and even more for a watch you kind of realize even in the mid to high end: It's not perfect. Period.

Enjoy the phone for what it is. If the gap is truly something you can't deal with, then you know what that is YOUR right as a consumer not to buy the phone however understand nothing is perfect and no matter how much money you throw into the pool you won't get perfection.

The best you can do is try to understand and cope with that everyone does the BEST they can. It truly helps one's perspective.

We opened every single One in stock at the store I went to and every single one them had a gap. Google it, my experience is not unique.

My time is valuable and I simply sharing my experience. Take it for what it is, there are some flawless HTC One phones out there and some that are very flawed. Do not deny it, it is fact.

Apologies for an offensive title to my original post.

When I am paying $700 for what is supposed to be a premium phone I expect premium. Simple as that.

I want to make it clear that my comments and feedback is based on handling several HTC One phones, not just one. The Best Buy in eastern Ontario I went to opened several phones and all had gap issues, some very significant.

To the point of the Best Buy salesman taking notice of the gaps and understanding why I did not want to buy.

I still appreciate the phone and if I come across one with zero gap I still may very well purchase.

What part of it was not premium, and what is your point of data to say this is not a premium device because of the gap? Could you point to a flawless smart phone in the $700 category that is flawless and without build issues? You said it your self in your experience it seems a majority seem to have the gap was manufactured to the tolerances HTC wanted, which meant gaps were okay.
Also what is your definition of premium, what do YOU consider to be acceptable for a premium device?

Sorry to say it, but I have to say the issue is with the user expectations not meeting relatity.

As many within this post have agreed with I expect more than a phone with build quality gaps when I am spending $700 CAD. Sorry, if you feel this lack of quality is ok when spending that amount of money I respect that. I simply do not.
