Gear VR registration/approval/shipping/arrival info & also problems.

Best Buy and/or Samsung has dropped the ball and screwed Galaxy S8 (lease ?) customers on the “Infinitely Immersive” free gear VR offer. I’ll explain –

I heard about the offer for a free Gear VR, controller, and content bundle for S8/S8+ pre-orders for purchases and leases online. I lease my phones on the Sprint “Galaxy Forever” plan. I rushed in to Best Buy on the FIRST DAY that pre-ordering was possible (4-1-2017). I was assured by the associate that I would get the free VR kit and a $100 gift card, so I pre-order my silver Galaxy S8+ on that day. I was told that I was the 6th preorder at the store on that first day…right near the front of the line, right?

I patiently waited for my phone to arrive for pick-up. The night before the phones arrived in store, an associate called to schedule my pick-up. Great! I scheduled an appointment for 3 PM on April 21st (The first day of product availability, right after I get out of work). I went to my appointment where my phone was activated and was given the phone, gift card and a receipt (which was dated the 21st).

I immediately went home, went online, and registered for the offer as instructed. I entered the info that was requested and uploaded an image of the receipt on the Samsung offer website. I literally could not have done any of this any sooner. I should be golden, right?

NOT!!!

Two days later I received an email from Samsung saying that my purchase did not fall within the designated offer window (4-01-17 thru 4-20-17). They offered no addition info or explanation. I DID EVERYTHING PROPERLY AS INSTRUCTED AND SEEMINGLY MET EVERY REQUIREMENT!

I imagine that the date on the receipt is the source of the problem, but that is what the website said to upload. It is the only receipt that I was given as I did not have to pay anything when I pre-ordered. And since it is a lease, I paid nothing but the $30 activation in-store.

So, now I’ve re-submitted the offer application online (they only allow one resubmission). This time I overlayed the receipt on a copy of the pre-order “confirmation sheet” (this document was NOT requested, just the receipt!). I uploaded an image file of those two documents combined (it only allows one upload with a submission).

After resubmitting the info, I also TRIED to call Samsung’s customer service line about the issue. I never spoke to a human and listened to a loop of their recordings for ONE HOUR, before giving up and going to bed (ridiculous).

I have yet to receive confirmation, acceptance, or denial of that re-submission.

These are the type of shenanigans that I have come to expect from rebate submission, which are notorious for it… but from Samsung? On a flagship phone offer? RIDICULOUS!!

If the resubmission for the offer is denied, Samsung and Best Buy will have permanently lost a customer, and I will do my best to let everyone know about it.

Your situation sounds similar to mine. It's ridiculous. If they're going to be fussy with the receipts, fine... But don't be restricting us to one fix before they cancel us and refuse to help. What's your next step?

I had same issue. Only solution is to call the customer support line. I called early in the AM and still had a 45 minute wait. Representative looked at my documentation and said it was fine. He elevated it to a higher level review and said I should get an e-mail in 24-48 hours. Past 24 hours now but not passed 48 hours and still no response. If I hear nothing I will call again.

Sounds like you guys are having the same problem as me.

Got it from target pre-ordered the 6th, but only got a very vague e-mail.
Got it the Saturday because target didn't get my phone in till then for whatever reason. I submitted my info right after I got it on the 22nd.

Still waiting on to see if it was approved, but sounding like it won't.

The target receipt shows the purchase date of the 22nd, but also attached a scan of the target pre-order e-mail in the same PDF. Page 1 was receipt Page 2 was e-mail.

Sounds hit or miss with everyone, but it is taking longer to approved mine then some of those in the forum.

I registered for the free vr and controller, then received an email stating that I was approved to buy the bundle (which is not what I signed up for, since my significant other also got the s8 and ordered the $99 dollar bundle). I called and waited 2 hours before someone answered and explained this situation. She then escalated it and as of today 4/25 I got an email for tier 3 support that my choice is final and they would not change it. But like I stated, I know for a fact that I chose the free vr and controller and not the bundle. This whole promotion is just a mess. Horrible horrible experience.

Fully immersive pack scheduled to arrive this Thursday; that's one week after I received the S8+.

Called Samsung again. Sat on hold for 10 minutes, and they disconnected my call. Again.

Have received email that VR and controller shipped and then another that my ordered wireless charger had shipped. Have both tracking numbers. They show label created and nothing else. Delivery date for VR supposed to be today but I somehow doubt it.

Update, just got notified from FEDEX that my VR will be here Thursday.

This one really sounds like a Best Buy issue. How besides the store receipt, would Samsung have known you pre-ordered?

I had to resubmit after the receipt best buy printed for me at the store was rejected.

I took the PDF of the print order option on bestbuy's website for the order that shows the order and pickup dates, then digitally circled the dates, or phone purchased, and put a digital signature and date on it. Everything they suggest on the terms and conditions for the offer.

It said there was an error after re-submitting it, so I called Samsung support, and after 1:45 on hold (effin' ridiculous) I got through and they said it all looked good for what I re-submitted. the next day it was showing awaiting approval.

Just got approval today, and now waiting on shipping.

I originally got the try again email too. It was my bad. Submitted a picture of the pick up receipt that doesn't have the date of purchase on it. Resubmitted a screen shot of my receipt from bestbuy.com and was approved. Now I'm stuck in processing gift.

My $99 bundle is due for delivery on Thursday. Funny thing is it says a signature is required but the phone did not. Go figure.

Was able to order my bundle on 4/20, but still have not received shipping information.

Mine was approved (Best Buy preorder) by Samsung on 4/22, and status says "processing gift"...no shipping info yet.

I also just got the FedEx tracking information. Delivery Thursday and signature is required.

Just got notification on FedEx that it will be delivered on Thursday. It says signature required, but I'm 400ft off the road and have them deliver in my breezeway. I've never had a signature needed even for my $900 phone's.

I got approved last Wednesday and just received my tracking info a couple hours ago. Others have gotten much quicker than me though.
