Gingerbread ready for Incredible 2 WOW?

Honestly, if you ain't running CM7.1, you ain't experienced all the Thunderbolt can give you yet. It's a dream experience, true Android as it was meant to be. And it flies... I mean it FLIES.

Its completely stable, great battery life, no 4G/3G radio problems. Wifi works awesome. The ONLY hiccup right now is satellite GPS which will be fixed in time. I won't say soon, but I anticipate some work on it in the next RC.

I don't even think official Gingerbread will do anything for most people. The update tonight is what the stockies really want. A fix to reboot problems. The average person who runs stock and is whining about this reboot issue (I only had 1 random reboot, ever) wouldn't even tell the difference between Froyo and Gingerbread if it came up and hit them in the face. It's that subtle.

On another note however, coming from a Droid X this whole updating process feels all too familiar. Hey look at the Droid X, the greatest device from Motorola. It can do flash content on the web isn't that cool guys? But wait you won't get that out of the box. You need 2.2 first. Don't get too sad just yet, we promise 2.2 to be on your device by the end of the summer! (<2 weeks later Droid 2 is launched, with Froyo) ok guys we know you were supposed to be the ones to get flash officially, but hey look here's a Droid 2! IT DOES FLASH! DROID DOES DERP.

^ This is how the game works. It's a business, making and selling phones. If HTC (and believe me when I say HTC is GREAT compared to Sammy + Moto) and Verizon were all about slapping you silly with the newest updates from Google, they'd do it. But instead they choose to deliberately take their time. A lot of people will claim its for Quality Assurance. Really? Let me just point you in the direction of MR1. It's about making money people. It always was and it always will be. You want updates, and you want them fast? Get rooting and play the Android game the right way. You want to run stock and tread softly, enjoy your waiting game and sitting on issues that are already resolved by community developers.

I'm sorry. I switched from Sprint (Palm Pre) because I was fed up with waiting for updates that would make the phone function properly...only to be drug into the same, vicious cycle.

I'm on my 2nd TB, and I will - if I have to - demand a different/new phone under Florida's Lemon Law if a third phone doesn't work either.

Got the update just now. So far phone is working good. Hope this finally fixes the reboot issue which wasn't that big a deal for me.

gingerbread has been announced for almost every new htc phone such as the desire, the incredible 2, and the sensation when will it be available on the thunderbolt? I feel like if htc have it ready for every other phone should be close for the thunderbolt.

Judging by the leaks that are out there, GB is already ready for the Thunderbolt, but once again, its the radio (and possibly kernel to go with it) that seem to be causing the delays.

I totally agree, I heard that the Incredible 2 was getting GB before us and rooted this morning. Its super easy if you just download and follow the instructions in the forums. then you just look around and find something you want to try out, do a backup and flash away. Oh... did I mention this morning was the first and I really mean FIRST time I have ever attempted Rooting any android phone and I have had them since the G1... anyways I got BAMF-Sense 3.0-RC4 with the MR2 radio and it works great, well as far as I can tell it does. Like I said, super easy to do, and well worth it since Verizon wants to try and squeeze us for all the money they can by releasing new phones with the software we want instead of giving the updates we want.... Ok, im done ranting... haha :p

HTC had to stop working on Gingerbread to fix the broken MR1 update, it's not surprising that other high profile devices will get it a little earlier than us. It will come don't worry :)

If I needed gingerbread or Skype I would root. I just want a dependable phone with fast internet and good apps. I'm going to the beach tomorrow. It's the spot my tb usually shuts down. We'll see what happens.

I do disagree about HTC being better than MOTO though. This is my second HTC phone and both have had problems with dependably receiving or making calls. My MOTO phones never, ever had that problem. You can't receive a call if the tb is off in your pocket and u don't know it.

I didn't have as many issues with the Storm 1 that I'm having with the Thunderbolt.

Wow! That is really saying something as the original storm was a huge POS.

Since I have been running BAMF 3.0 I have not had any reboots or issues in about a week, so I really don't care about getting a bloated carrier version of GB. Happy where I am now.

I am glad to get the update to stop the reboots I can wait on the GB update to make sure they get it right

Calm down guys.

Gingerbread was already finished for the Incredible 2 when it was released, it was going through testing with Verizon which is why it didn't launch with it. They have not diverted any resources away from the Bolt, and its certainly not a slap in the face.

glad i have a incredible 2:D

Exactly. Its like the old saying goes, "Never hop on the first thing out of the gates." I never get the first batch or release of anything because there is always going to be problems.I personally will not be even considering a 4G phone till they get the network, battery issues, and handsets up to par.

I agree guys this is Crap, our phone came out first so why do we get shoved aside? I love this phone but seriously this is getting old quick. I'm tired of empty promises from both HTC and Verizon

The Thunderbolt was not shoved aside. It's quite simple. HTC has several software development teams working on different handsets and the DInc 2 team finished their work first. The Thunderbolt might have gotten it first if the programmers hadn't had to go back and fix the random rebooting problem. Now that that's done they can focus on baking our Gingerbread. It sucks that it happened that way, but such is life sometimes.

Why wait? For every new phone, there will always be some duds that made it through production that will give a new owner all kinds of issues. But for most people, the TB rocks with pretty much no issues. Those who do have issues are a vocal minority who rightfully deserve to get a quality replacement. But why wait for 4G? When I don't feel like using 4G, I turn it off. But because I have it, when I want my phone to be 10 times faster than my wife's 3G phone, or my friends iPhone, I just press a button.

The way I figure, I got the TB on day one and the longer I have it, the more I get to enjoy all it's 4G goodness all while happily letting my contract clock tick down to the day when I can get a newer 4G phone if I choose. I have to admit, once I've been using 4G speeds for a while and I go back to 3G, I'm instantly reminded of how much waiting around I was doing before I had my TB.

What empty promises? When did Verizon say the Thunderbolt was getting gingerbread by now? Where did HTC do that?

The fact of the matter is that Gingerbread for the Dinc2 was already completed when the device launched, but wasn't done in time for it to launch with. That's why its getting it first. If Verizon came out tomorrow and said the Bolt will never get gingerbread that would be different. But we know its coming, and we know they're working on it.

In other words; until we actually hear anything from Verizon, everyone needs to take a chill pill.
