Give some reasons to get the Nexus over the rezound?

How hard is it to root it?

I realize ppl are apprehensive about rooting but is quite easy. If you do decide to root, do it sooner than later because, unlocking the bootloader (required for root) will wipe out your virtual sd card. Everything will be gone. Better now before you get lots of stuff on the sd, and its a one time deal.

I could give you a big list of what rooting can do and the benefits, but suffice to say it opens up a whole world of phone enjoyment.

Ppl who root, wonder why they hadn't done it sooner. Why does AC have a whole separate section for rooters?
Because its a very popular activity and is very active with us habitual modders like myself. WARNING: it can get addicting.

Good luck.

Seems htc has naming confusion probs with the endeavour. The ville looks interesting however with the curved screen and ics.

More on the upcoming HTC phones - no way would I get a Rezound with these coming out. Of course, I would only have a Nexus from now on, but if you would consider a non-Nexus phone, these are worth waiting for.

Took a look at it today at Verizon and it looks good yet I could not set the weather bug widget is this something that does not work in ICS? I was able to download it, but it did not show up in the widgets.

Thanks for checking. I'm not sure why it did not on the store model. It did download and was in the apps, but could not find it in widgets. Not I just need to wait till March 1st. I'm gonna pick up a case and extended battery for now though. I'm hoping this phone is as good as you all say.

I had the Rezound on its launch day up until the Gnex on its launch day. I've been using the Gnex ever since then.

Quite honestly battery life seemed to be nearly the same, if I had to give an edge to one, it would be the Gnex.

The screens/display for each was nearly equivalent. Again, very hard to pick a winner, but if I had to I would say Gnex due to its large size when the soft keys disappear for certain apps, etc.

What made me choose the Gnex over the Rezound:

1. Fast updates -- you get your phone updated very quickly (even if you dont end up rooting/ROM'ing)
2. No Bloat -- although it didnt really bother me while I had the Rezound, I could foresee those apps slowing me down over the long haul.
3. Unlocking/Rooting/Rom'ing possibililties -- Dev community has got to be the largest around. I had been toying with the idea of rooting my next phone to be able to put different ROMs on it. Also, I dont have the fortune to be able to get a new phone every 6 months (give or take). So having my phone rooted with the possibility of putting a new ROM on it whenever I want gives me slightly more time without the phone getting "old" because you are constantly putting whatever is newer and better onto it. I basically get the fun of a new phone when you move to a new ROM or update to the current version of the one you are on. You can now easily unlock the Rezound at HTCdev though, and most likely root it (dont quote me on that, I havent stayed current in that department).
4. Ice Cream Sandwich -- If you arent going to be rooting, this has got to be the biggest reason I would choose the Gnex. It has the newest iteration of Android all ready to go, no waiting required. Who knows when the Rezound will get an official OTA update for ICS??

What I will admit the Rezound has over the Gnex:

1. Sound -- the Gnex speaker is quite pathetic. It irks me that I had to install Volume+ just to get my speaker loud enough so that I wouldnt miss notifications or phonecalls anymore.

2. Weight -- I liked the "heft" of the Rezound, but just because the Gnex is lighter, it doesnt necessarily feel "cheap" to me like some may suggest.

That's my 2 cents. Obviously its an opinion, but ultimately you need to choose what will work for you. Go play with them a couple of times on a couple of different days. They are both very good phones. Good luck with your decision!

Nice write up thanks. The few things that may be a deal breakers for me is the static on phone calls, dropped data, low speaker volume. Imo those may be hardware issues.

Dont let dropping data be a deal breaker. I feel I can tell you with certainty that it can happen on any recent LTE phone on Verizon, maybe any LTE phone on Verizon period. I dont know whats worse: my Rezound getting stuck in 1x in weak areas or when I had a G Nex not connecting to 4G in weak areas. My Rezound can connect to 4G in weak areas....when it isnt busy getting stuck in 1x..

So look past dropping data. I fear that might effect anyone on any LTE phone until LTE gets more mature. Or not so much dropping data....but what happens after you drop data, how does it recover, how many times do you drop data, etc.

I've always had HTC phones and like them, well until the thunderdud and would like to try the nexus, but have concerns on ICS and battery life. Is there anyone here who came from a HTC phone and could help me compare the two (rezound and nexus)?

As a nexus s owner - samsung's customer support / "repair" policy is atrocious, so there's that to consider. If your phone ever has a hardware issue, do you want a minimum of 2 weeks, possibly longer, without your phone?

I thought if your phone is in warranty, you take it to a VZW store and they give a refurbished model on the spot or one is mailed to you in 2 days, no?

If your phone is out of warranty, then I am not sure what happens.

I don't have a verizon nexus s - at&t bought off-contract, so I am limited only to the standard samsung warranty (good for another 8 months..)
