Go to a Verizon store? Post your thoughts here!

I got to try out a Pixel 2 XL and a V30 this evening at a local Verizon store and I'm really struggling between the two! In my opinion, the hardware of the V30 is more impressive, but the software on the Pixel 2 is far superior. I absolutely love the way the V30 feels in hand - small, light, easy to handle, and the bezels are so much thinner they seem to disappear when using the phone! Conversely, I was disappointed in handling the Pixel 2 XL as it didn't seem any sleeker or more impressive than my Pixel XL and the top and bottom bezels feel just as thick as mine with the way Google presents the notification and control bars. On the other hand, the software on the Pixel 2 is phenomenal! Extremely fast, pretty, easy to use, and makes you almost forget the bulky hardware surrounding it. I really wish Google would have contracted with LG to put the Pixel software in the V30 body!

Wow. I'm just seeing this thread. I posted my thoughts in a separate thread. Really enjoyed them. The speakers are everything!

Didn't get a chance to try my headphones today....I'm going to my local one near home to see if they let me try the audio.

Re: Hands on at Verizon

I have no intentions of purchasing the Pixel 2/XL but I find them to be very tempting phones. I also don't miss opportunities to play around with new devices when they become available. I went to Verizon unnoticed by the sales reps so I really had some nice uninterrupted time with mostly the 2 XL but also the smaller Pixel 2. I really love the design. The bezels are not as slim as say the Note 8 or the V30(which I also played around with) but they are greatly justified this year with the inclusion of front facing speakers. I'd take front facing speakers over tiny bezels any day when they're implemented this way. The P2 XL is definitely not a slim device but the heft feels good and it's backed up by a decent sized battery.

The cameras are as advertised but my goodness, the UI is way too bare bones for me. I like to control my shots which is why I've leaned towards LG phones over the competition. You could go with a third party app but my guess is you lose out on Google's algorithms. Not sure. I'm particularly impressed with the FFC after the blurry 5mp one on the V30. Main sensor autofocus was very responsive.

Just squeeze it! Google assistant on a squeeze was much cooler than I anticipated. I don't know why reviewers downplayed it so much on the U11. I like the smaller size of the Pixel 2 a lot too. Really great experience and no one else came in after me and the reps were occupied with other customers. I'm on T-Mobile anyway. Really nice phones.
Nice post. I actually decided to leave the LG lineup this time around and I'm anticipating my 2 unlocked ones to come in the mail. I'll check in on your pics in the V30 forum if you check in on mine here. Hahah just kidding. I'll be hovering there anyway.

I tried the 2 XL yesterday as well at my local Verizon, and overall looks and feels like a great phone. The Stereo speakers could be a tad louder, but they sounded good. Screen was great. Checked it out at minimum brightness, and it looked fine and uniform, but this wasn't exactly a good test place for that with all the bright lights. Phone felt great in the hand.

Then I played with the V30... What a beautiful phone! LG absolutely nailed it. 2 XL is utilitarian by comparison, but honestly, after you put it in the case, the software is what matters, and I'm going with Pixel for the pure experience. Happy that I pre-ordered, 10/25 can't come here soon enough!

The negative thoughts here are concerning. I'm going to Verizon right after work. Need to see this on hand.

Re: Hands on at Verizon

Yeah there is. I just posted my thoughts before I saw the other one.

So are you tending to agree with the others that have seen both side by side and feel the display on the pixel 2 looks better than the 2XL?? I am really shocked that numerous people have said the xl 2 is not premium feeling and has blueish viewing angles. I just find it odd that a 6.0 display doesn't look as good as a 5.0 1080p display...

Re: Hands on at Verizon

I'm going to wait to reserve judgement until I see one, too much variance in responses on screen quality, speaker quality... Feel? Mine goes in a case immediately, so feel is useless to me

Screen
Software
Sound quality
Camera

That's what I'm after, I put mine in a case so feel is not important.. I hope the screen. Is at least as good as my XL. I doubt it's as good as a note 8

Nope I don't agree with that. It just felt nice because of the size but I was drawn more to the larger XL and to me the screen was better than the smaller 2. The speakers are a dream come true too and I only had the volume at about 50% watching a few YouTube videos.

They really are not slippery devices at all though. I say try it out before you cover up that nice design.

No one is talking about how they moved the LED notification light away from the speaker hole...thumbs up on that!

If google offer me almost half price again next year to trade my pixel 2 for a 3 I probably will, I think they will continue to improve

Ok interesting. shocked to hear the negative reviews of the pixel XL 2 because it looks amazing on the computer lol. I am going to check it out today hopefully at Verizon

Yeah I'm not sure where that's coming from. I absolutely enjoyed it.

Re: Hands on at Verizon

The sound quality/loudness of alerts, rings has to be improved with 2 front speakers vs 1 down firing

One thing I've felt about me XL is high volume isn't very high

Re: Hands on at Verizon

i guess I'm an outlier because I went to the store and thought that the XL was much more premium feeling and looking than the smaller one and to me the display looked a lot sharper and the colors looked more accurate on the XL.

It's good to hear others on the opposite end because I am starting to get nervous! I can't imagine the pixel XL 2 falling short on screen quality!
