Google Assistant on Moto X Pure 2015- won't work from the lock screen

Got the Google Assistant on my Moto X Pure 2015 this week. Had to disable Moto Voice to get it to work, which is OK, because I can still get Moto to read my text messages, which is a big deal to me.

If any of you guys are using Assistant, can you get it to work from the lock screen? I have no password or security at all, and it still won't work. Can't get it to work from the lock screen with BT either.

If I unlock the device, it will work. Any ideas?

On my Verizon Droid Turbo 2, OK Google will work from lock screen if screen is on, but requires AC power to work from screen off. Google Assistant doesn't seem to utilize Motorola's unique low-power, always on voice recognition processor that makes Moto Voice so convenient.

Even with screen on and AC power, OK Google activation is unreliable and slow, so far.

So, I'm unable to transition to Google Assistant full time instead of Moto Voice, which is a disappointment.

Is anyone having a better experience with OK Google on their Moto devices?
