Google bans Huawei:Are you worried?

Can't say my sediments mirror yours. Do find updates a bit on the hit-n-miss side at times yet my P20 & Pro are working exceptionally well. Would consider another but at this point and time these two handsets easily fulfil my requirements.
Had the mate 20 pro, got it exchanged twice. First device had a green screen, on the subsequent ones the screen detached itself from the frame. Cheaply made, crappy phones with Chinese government spyware installed, and with a premium price tag. No thanks.

Suddenly no longer a security risk, huh? Wow, Trump is so full of it.

Anyway, I still don't trust Huawei and will never buy their hardware again. Plus the ones I've had were crap hardware-wise too

Suddenly... Lol. Newsflash, it never was a security risk. It was sabre rattling to get what they (US) wanted. You do know Huawei has been on Canadian cell phone towers since 2007 and still is currently on the towers and where is this security risk? Where is any documentation showing this? I'll wait.

Totally agree, no proof anywhere as far as I have seen.

Does happen, device hardware failing. Huawei ain't the first nor will they be the last on that front... My P20 Series have been exceptional so there's always two sides to any story.

"No thanks"... Your prerogatives.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

A lot of ignorant people here thinking the Chinese can't build a great phone...news flash the best camera on a phone is the p30 pro and after that it's the pixel, the rest can't keep up. Also makes me laugh when half the components the haters are using is Chinese or assembled by the Chinese so slandering them probably seems uneducated, showing their "maga" side I like to put it.

The issue isn't whether Huawei can make a great phone (but the Pixel Visual Core chip still beats Huawei's best - try getting a picture of a flower, in shadow, under a crescent moon. With full color. The Pixel 3 (or the 2 with Camera 3) does it easily.

The issue is whether Huawei violated US law - and according to Trump, they did. (I'm not an attorney, so I have no idea how close or far he was, but that's the reason for the ban.) Now it's lifted. (Until his next change of "mind".) Of course he's totally wrong about no one else being able to match our technology. Where are all our 4nm foundries? TMSC is Taiwanese, Samsung is Korean and GlobalFoundries, the only American foundry company is still stuck at 7nm and may be going to 5nm next year, or in 2021. Why is China always way ahead of us in technology? Oh, that's right - "Science is for Democrats".

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

And now we're hearing Trump is having meetings to discuss banning End to End Encryption....and people are scared about Huawei!

Commie lovers will buy there equipments, that's the way it is. No need to argue really.

well I think this here is why I'll go file your opinions where I feel they belong.

Makes me question if you actually had a huawei device in the first place

While I synmpathise with your supposed bad luck when it comes to Huawei phones (not even sure it’s true, could be you being clumsy), I have to say that what you said is the most ignorant statement I’ve seen in a long time.

Firstly there is no proof of spyware, it’s alleged. I doubt even Huawei has the resources to spy on ALL of their phones...just in case they want to steal your PUBG account? Sure.

Secondly, the Mate 20 and P20/30 series have been widely applauded by tech sites, enthusiasts and everyday people not only due to their great features/design etc but also when other companies charge much more for similar specs (ahem Apple).

Your political opinions aside, people buy huawei devices because they want to and like their design/features/price etc...not because they are ‘commie lovers’. You’re just trying to shut down a debate you know you’ll lose because there is no solid basis to it.

Some people...??????

This has almost nothing in the world to do with cell phones. It has to do with sanctions, on a government that the current administration views as hostile, which are being intentionally violated by companies in China. This is a political argument, not anything to do with market-share. This isn't even a move by Google. Google is not doing anything except for following the law, because if they do not, their officers can be arrested and their company can be devastated. Now, is there a sideline thought that causing economic pain to Huawei and ZTE may cause those companies to put pressure on the Chinese government to be more sincere in their negotiations with other countries? Perhaps. But that again, would be the government motivation, not Google's. Google WANTS to have Huawei as a partner because Huawei is one of their biggest business partners in mobile.

This has nothing to do with cell phones but it has everything to do with 5G and the trade war. The US is flustered China is advancing technologically and Huawei is one of the companies leading the charge with their 5G tech. ZTE was targeted also because of their leading position in 5G. Companies like OnePlus and Lenovo are fine because they do not have core tech that could threaten the US' lead in tech. The US destroyed the Japanese economy and made them sign a bunch of unequal treaties back in the 80s when Japan was about to overtake the US in GDP. The US also arrested the CEO of a French company a while back, forced the French company into bankruptcy and forced it to transfer all of its tech to GE. Now the US is trying to do the same to China/Huawei. This is the same thing same tactic happening again the US will do anything to try to maintain its lead make no mistake about it.

and that's shameless+should be condemned. Will only use Huawei phones from now on the more bullying that goes on the worse of a reputation the US will have. More and more companies are learning the risk of depending on American companies/the US so ironically the only one that'll end up getting isolated is the US.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

The Chinese are totally unscrupulous as a nation. Their economy relies on stolen intellectual property from abroad. Huawei fits into their master plan nicely, allowing them to intercept anything going through broadband. Hat's off to Trump and the British government.

You could say the same for the US, the entire American space program was only possible due to German tech/scientists and the US started off by copying the British.

Yes, very. What does this mean for Canada - does anyone know? Only Rogers/Fido carries the P30 line. I was so tempted to buy it but now I doubt I will. And I have an Honor 8 we my back-up phone, and make frequent trips to the States.

Huawei is already fairly difficult to obtain in Canada (if you buy via a carrier - Newegg and other online stores do sell them). I worry that Huawei's shrinking presence in the States may affect Canadian sales. I have yet to see anything about Canada, Huawei, and Google. And if things are still hunky dory, how long will they be that way?

Pretty sure every single carrier has Huawei and carries the P30 line Telus, Virgin, Bell, Rogers, Videotron, Koodo, Chatr, Fido etc. etc. (apart from Freedom, Freedom is the only one not carrying the P30 line but even they're selling the Mate 20 Pro, way later than everyone else but Huawei is sold on every carrier in Canada)?

Name any G20 nation that doesn’t practice same methods or rely on a G5 nation to do for them for the same reasons. We’re just better at it since it’s part of the culture and DNA since the Pilgrims came. It’s basically part of the reason our country’s founding and biggest driver of success. Hardly perfect, although #2 in anything is first place loser.... my kids only like their first place trophies. There’s not a lot of them but it’s their attitude that lets me know they'll be survivors in life.

So I’m not worried about the ban. I’m looking forward to ramping it up. It does seem that many Americans have started to wake up their us or them attitude.

You get to first place by outcompeting your competitors, not by kidnapping, bullying and gang tactics. The US acting the way it has been acting recently just shows fear and desperation. According to the US apparently Canadian steel is a "threat to national security" which is just completely laughable.

I agree 100%, after seeing this and reviewing the information. True there wouldn't be criminal charges if there wasn't any evidence. Huawei did not play nice going against doing business with a sanctioned country.

Sent from my VOG-L04 using AC Forums mobile app

US sanctions and UN sanctions on Iran are different, US sanctions on Iran are illegal as ruled by the UN so the US is the one at fault here. Canada does not support American sanctions on Iran.

China isn’t capitalism and owns large portions of their corporations. Support China as you wish. I hear they’re far more supportive than USA of human rights also. (Sarcasm intended)

They indeed are but that's another matter, not gonna start listing all the American atrocities on human rights here, China is an angel in comparison.

Any device can have issues according to stats Huawei makes the best phone with the least problems as for Chinese spyware there is zero proof of that however American spying has been proven.

Even P30 Pro's auto mode beats Pixel's Night Sight, Huawei's NPU is much more powerful than Pixel's visual core. Pixel produces underexposed daylight pics and yellow night shots I'd say even the S10 is better at computational photography.

Um not too sure about that. Huawei’s night mode definitely beats Night Sight, but both are great. As someone who’s used the S10’s night mode before, it is decent but isn’t quite as good as the first two.
