Google is afraid of Samsung, which is why the Pixel 4 is lackluster.

I personally HATE Samsung phones. I will never buy one again. They pack too much crap onto their phones that you can't remove and it only shows the dang thing down or drains the battery like crazy. TouchWiz is miserable. Seriously who needs 4 channel changer apps? If more people knew exactly what the Pixel and other almost vanilla Android devices were really all about (simplicity, speed, customization, NO BLOATWARE, etc.) they'd probably be more popular. Not to mention Samsung does a lot better job with their advertising. I guess 82 selfie apps that put bunny ears on you can only go so far...

They already have it developed, called Tizen.

While Tizen probably is theoretically a viable option for an OS, it's been official for 7 years. And only 5 phones have run it on Samsung devices. 5. If Samsung truly had the power that they did, they would have crippled Google about 5 years ago. I think they already knew then that launching an OS isn't as easy as it sounds. I recall hearing that Samsung was offering incentives for people to develop for the OS, and there weren't many takers.

To illustrate how much power Samsung has over Google
To quote a great Jedi Master: 'Size matters not.'
Google and Samsung are in a symbiotic relationship. If Samsung were to walk away and try to go all in with Tizen, it would hurt both, and severely. Samsung probably a lot more than Google. Once people found out the app selection was minimal, they probably would be returning devices so fast Samsung's head would spin.

All those Google apps are on the Apple store for Apple phones.
Not really a fair comparison. Launching an app on iOS is a feasible option, as there is a solid user base for the OS itself. In Tizen's case, you would need to convince users to leave what is familiar to try something new and different. There is a user base who would do that; they are prolific on forums, like us. And even then, not everyone would be willing to do it.

In general, the only company that has the ability to try and take on both Apple and Google for an OS would be Microsoft. They have the resources, both technical and capital to do it. If they could do it by creating their own OS and still being able to use Google Play Services, they might have a chance. However, they tried and failed....miserably.

I am not saying that neither one will topple; it would just take a lot of things happening at the right time for it to all work out.

When was the time you looked at a Samsung? TouchWiz is gone and not much bloatware. If something can't be removed it can be disabled and those apps don't take you a lot of room.

Samsung tried with tizen failed , Microsoft tried with windows and failed... it will happen but not anytime soon, nothing last forever .

Long time. I've had Nexus/Pixel phones for years now. I honestly hate all the crap these companies do to Android. It just slows the phones down. As long as there's a Pixel I'll never go back and probably not even then. Samsung is trash IMO...

When exactly was the last time you tried one? I just came off a Note 9, and it was awesome, nothing like you describe. You’re likely thinking of the old Samsung phones. The newer ones are great.

Again it's been years. I've had Nexus/Pixel phones for years. Never again Samsung. Never again.
I used to feel the same way about Samsung, but One UI is nothing like Touchwiz. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

Honestly, I'll never try it. They lost my business years ago with all the BS they packed into they phones. It's not about they sell you a phone. V they have to ram all kinds of crap applications down your throat. I'm perfectly fine with pixels. There's nothing that Samsung offers that I need that the Pixel doesn't have...

I agree with this completely. Google wants to keep services going and hardware is not the same priority.

If you start with the thought that you don't get to be in their position be being stupid, them that makes what they're doing, planned. I do not think the display issue and then the memory issues last time was party of the plan... Essentially being a sec mistake. The integration of the services and stuff, was spot on. Unless someone wants a purple phone, it's that integration that makes the thought of the pixel enticing

And that is fair, but you can't bash a phone anymore that you no nothing about. Massive difference in software now compared to past Samsung phones.

Well you are certainly entitled to an opinion but it really is relevant to the current Samsung products. I had the Pixel 2XL and Pixel 3XL. I'm now using a Samsung S10+ and a Note 10+. Both are great phones and offer quite a bit more than the Pixels.

Sorry I don't need 82 selfie apps...
My S10+ didn't have any selfie apps other than the camera app. There are selfie settings on the default camera app found on any phone sold these days, whether Samsung, Pixel, LG, Moto, One+, Nokia, etc.

1. The Samsung camera app is pretty decent, and it along with many other camer apps have the option to add those filters. I don't think there's ever been more than 1 default camera app on Samsung.

2. TouchWiz was replaced years ago. Since Android 8, bloatware has been manageable and no where near as bad as you are saying. OneUI in particular received a lot of praise.

3. Performance wise Samsung's latest phones are superior to their Pixel rivals. I don't remember the Note 9 having performance issues like the Pixel 3 did. Multitasking is a key area. (E.g Pixel 4’s 6GB RAM vs Note 10+’s 12GB)

4. Ease of use is subjective. For example stock Android 10 gestures are a bit of a mess compared to Samsung's gestures in my opinion. 3 button navigation is a lot better.

5. The Pixel 3 and by the looks of it, 4's battery life is pretty gloomy, while Samsung had always been adequate in that area. Tiny batteries don't get you far.

They're are 62 apk's associated with bloatware on the S10+ per XDA that can safely be removed. That doesn't count the ones that can't be removed or frozen. Hard pass...

What is considered bloatware is subjective. For example, one could consider some Google apps that are preinstalled on Pixel phones to be bloatware. I don't use Duo or Google Play Movies & TV. However, I wouldn't call those bloatware, since many people do indeed use those apps.
